The Legal Wife

Chapter 10

Ch. 11 / 45 Dec 06, 2025

MARX

There is nothing you can do when your heart decides who to love. I remember my professor in Psychology say this. For once, I have believed that this quote is a positive thing. But when I finally knew about Kristoff’s feelings, I realized that I am losing in this.

I love him.

He doesn’t love me.

I care for him.

I don’t know if what he is doing is caring for me.

He does things now that he doesn’t usually do for me before. I don’t exactly know if this is an improving affection but I can see that he is starting to change.

Bit by bit.

I just hope it’s for the best. Because it is hurting me too much, I can’t seem to handle anymore.

I walked out of my room today, prepared to go to the office. I am planning to skip breakfast because I know how awkwardly I will act in front of Kristoff after that hug last night.

Come to think of it, I did really need a hug last night. But that was not expected.

I sighed as I walked to the door.

“Aren’t you eating breakfast?” I stopped in my tracks as I heard Kristoff behind me.

I slowly looked back at him and smiled fake. “I have something to do in the office. I’ll just have my breakfast there,” I replied.

Kristoff just stared at me. I can’t exactly describe that look but I think he is thinking about something. Something that made him look as if he is disappointed.

But then when I thought he would probe, he nodded. “Okay. Don’t forget to eat okay?” He reminded me.

I looked at him with narrowed eyes.

He blinked at me. “Why?” he asked.

I sighed and shook my head. “Nothing,” I replied. “You are just so weird, Kristoff.” I added as I walked to the door.

I heard his smirk, and mumble some words. I wish I heard those words.

I arrived at the office with my table full of folders once again. I sighed as I called Min.

“What are these?” I asked her.

She grinned. “Those are proposals for the fashion show,” she replied. “And the artists are requesting for a meeting as soon as possible so they can know what to do in the fashion show.” She added.

I nodded. Of course I know that would happen. And for that, I have to work harder today to finish everything.

I sat on my seat and began looking through the folders and finishing the reports.

I really have to work double time and extremely harder than what I have been doing before to make this fashion a real success. After all, I have to show Kristoff that I could do this on my own.

Not that I am competing against him but I don’t really like him thinking that I am not good enough. I want him to know that I can do things on my own.

And perhaps, that would make him proud.

I started doing my work because I really am planning to finish everything today. I don’t want to see folder on my desk tomorrow again.

As I was half done with my work, Min came to my office. “Shan, Hunter Looney is outside,” she said.

My ears perked up as I heard that jerk’s name. What is he doing here again?

I gave Min a queer look.

She just shrugged and let that jerk inside my room.

That Hunter Looney walked leisurely in my office with a grin in his face. He looked so comfortable stepping inside my office with a casual wear.

I stared at him in anger. “What are you doing here?” I asked him.

He just shrugged and laid his back on the couch. “Nothing,” he said as he relaxed and welcomed himself in my own office.

I stared at him in disbelief. How could he just leisurely walk around my own property just like that?

“You said we can come here anytime,” he said as he opened and read a magazine. “So, I came,” he added.

I rolled my eyes regretting that he has to hear those words coming from me. I sighed and I continued doing my work. I don’t have time to argue with this person anymore. That would just be a waste because he never learns.

Surprisingly, he was quiet and he didn’t disturb me. That, I am grateful of.

It was weird having him here but at least he didn’t bother to pester me at a time like this. I was so immersed in my presentation that I didn’t even notice him walking to me.

“Ashanti, are you not hungry yet?” he asked.

I looked at him. “It’s too early for lunch,” I replied.

He crossed his arms and gave me that a look. “It’s past two o’clock already. What are you talking about too early for lunch?” he asked sarcastically.

I rolled my eyes and tried to ignore his remarks. “Then it’s too early for dinner.” I rephrased.

He shook his head and laughed sarcastically. “Ha. Ha. Ha. That is so funny,” he said while rolling his eyes.

I shook my head as I continued my work.

“Hey!” He said. “You don’t have to kill yourself with hunger for the fashion show.” He beamed.

I looked at him as if he said something brilliant. Well, he just said something unbelievable. I never thought he would be like that.

I smiled. “Wow,” I said.

Hunter looked at me with narrowed eyes. “What?” he asked.

I shook my head. “You actually sounded like a human with those words.” I uttered making him glare at me as I closed the folder.

“Okay,” I said as I stood up. “Aren’t you going home yet?” I asked him.

God knows how much I wanted him to leave already.

He shook his head. “The members are out so I don’t have something to do at home,” he replied.

“You don’t have something to do here either.” I snapped.

He smirked. “I have,” he replied. “I am pestering you and I am having fun,” he added, earning him another deadly glare from me.

He chuckled and walked to the door. “So, where do we eat?” he asked.

I gave him a disgusted look. “Who said I am eating with you?” I asked him.

He gave me a look. “Then are you going to eat alone?” he asked back.

I stopped and thought. Yes, I am really going to eat alone.

He shook his head. “Don’t be a loner, Ashanti,” he told me.

I rolled my eyes and walked ahead, with him following me from behind. He whistled from behind me as I walked to the elevator. I just shrugged and pressed the elevator “down” button.

I looked at this jerk who was still whistling like he likes everything that is happening. “Stop it.” I ordered. “Stop whistling.” I commanded and he did.

I sighed in relief that he actually listened to me. I looked at the elevator door opening with eyes shocked.

“What are you doing here?”

I asked as Kristoff showed himself from the elevator.

Kristoff shifted his eyes on me and on Hunter then back to me. He walked to me and hugged my waist. “Nothing. I just wanted to see my wife.” He emphasized the last word.

Hunter looked at him. “Hey, dude!” He greeted. “It was nice working with Ashanti Michaels,” he said.

Kristoff smiled, but I sense some other meaning from his look. “I know,” he replied. “And by the way, Hunter Looney, it’s Ashanti Marx now,” he said making Hunter look at him weirdly.
