The Chosen Luna: Alpha’s Unwanted Daughter

Chapter 718

Ch. 708 / 790 May 05, 2026

The days that followed the explosive training session were a blur for Bella. Her mind was a maze of fragmented memories—snippets of her past, flashes of moments she couldn’t quite piece together. Sometimes, it was a sound, a smell, a touch that triggered something deep within her, but each recollection felt like a puzzle piece without a picture. She was slowly putting the pieces back together, but the more she remembered, the more conflicted she became. The power inside her, her hybrid nature, her bond with Kael—it was all too much to process, and she wasn’t sure she was ready to face it all.

Bella sat alone in the quiet of her room, her fingers absently tracing the lines of the medallion that had started it all. It was warm to the touch, almost as if it were alive. The pendant hummed with energy, reminding her of her time with Kael and everything she had forgotten. But there were also shadows—fragments of pain and confusion that clung to her thoughts. What was real? What was a lie? She didn’t know how to make sense of it.

“Bella?” Kael’s voice broke her reverie, and she looked up to see him standing in the doorway, his expression soft but worried.

“I’m fine,” she replied quickly, offering him a small smile, though it didn’t reach her eyes.

Kael stepped inside, his gaze never leaving her. “I don’t want you to feel like you have to hide anything from me,” he said gently. “We’re in this together. I’ll wait for you, no matter how long it takes.”

Bella swallowed hard, feeling the weight of his words settle in her chest. She could feel the sincerity in his voice, the devotion that had always been there, even when she hadn’t remembered him. It was undeniable. But how could she be the person he needed when she was still a stranger to herself?

“I know,” she whispered, but it wasn’t enough. She wasn’t sure if she was ready to be the person he believed she could be.

As Kael approached, Bella instinctively pulled back, her eyes darting to the window, unable to meet his gaze. She was afraid that if she did, the flood of emotions threatening to break through would become too much to handle. He wasn’t just Kael, the man who had loved her; he was a symbol of everything she had to rebuild, everything she had to confront. And she wasn’t sure if she was strong enough to face it yet.

Kael, sensing her unease, paused and took a step back. “I’ll be outside,” he said softly, his tone laced with frustration and confusion. “Just… don’t shut me out, Bella. Please.”

He left without waiting for her response, and Bella was left alone again, the room suddenly feeling much smaller than before.

Avalon watched from a distance, her arms crossed as she leaned against the wall, observing the interaction between Bella and Kael. Her dark eyes narrowed slightly as she took in the tension that seemed to hang in the air. She had noticed it for days now—the way Bella seemed to withdraw when Kael tried to get closer. It was as if she was running from something, but Avalon couldn’t quite figure out what. And that troubled her.

She had tried to remain detached, to focus on helping Bella regain her memories, but it was becoming harder and harder to ignore the way Kael looked at her. His devotion to Bella was clear, even if he didn’t fully understand what Bella was going through. But Avalon did. She understood more than anyone. And the more she saw Kael trying to piece Bella back together, the more she realized something painful—she didn’t have a place in their bond.

Avalon’s lips pressed together in a thin line. There was nothing she could do. Bella and Kael had something she would never have, something that wasn’t hers to claim. She had always been an outsider, an observer of the love that had been so effortlessly shared between them. She had once thought that maybe, just maybe, she could help Bella find herself again. But now, seeing the way Bella flinched whenever Kael tried to touch her, Avalon knew she had been fooling herself. Bella was already starting to remember what she had with him. She could feel it in the air between them, the unspoken connection that was slowly beginning to reignite.

She turned away from the door, stepping into the hallway, feeling a sudden rush of loneliness. She hadn’t realized just how much she had invested in Bella’s healing until now, how much she had hoped that, by helping Bella, she could somehow fill the empty space inside her. But Avalon had to face the truth: she had no place in this picture.

Later that night, after the others had gone to bed, Bella found herself unable to sleep. She tossed and turned in her bed, her mind racing with all the things she still didn’t understand. She kept hearing Kael’s voice in her head, the tenderness in his words, and the way he had held her when she had almost lost control. She had felt safe in his arms, and that terrified her.

The memories kept coming in fragments, uninvited and disorienting. There were moments with Kael—small things, insignificant to anyone else, but to her, they felt like a lifeline. She remembered the way he had kissed her, the feel of his lips on hers, and the overwhelming rush of emotions that had flooded her in that moment. The love, the trust, the sense of belonging—it had been so real, so intense. But it was also a lifetime ago, wasn’t it?

Bella closed her eyes, her chest tightening as she whispered to herself, “I think I loved him.”

The words were barely audible, but they hung in the air, heavy with meaning. It was the truth, wasn’t it? But how could she love him now, when she didn’t even know who she was anymore? She felt torn in two—her past, her memories, and the person she was becoming. They didn’t fit together like they once had, and yet, in the deepest part of her, she knew there was something still there, something unbroken between them.

But the question remained—could she trust it?
