I'm here

Ch. 39 / 70 May 07, 2026

Amia

“I don’t want to let you go. I like us like this,” Levi teased.

“Friends don’t do this,” I said.

“Why don’t we decide what we do?” Levi asked.

“That sounds great, I’ve been asking you to let me go, maybe we can start there,” I said.

“Mm. Why don’t you tell me what it is that friends don’t do?” Levi asked.

“Friends don’t spend the night in the same bed, they don’t wake up… snuggling, they don’t sit on top of the other while they lay down,” I say. My eyes dart down to where I’m seated on top of him.

“I think they do. I think friends do that together when they’re comfortable together and we’ve known each other since we were in diapers. Are you not comfortable with me, Ami?” Levi asked.

“You’re so good, you know that?” I asked.

“Mm, no, I don’t,” Levi teased.

His eyebrows jumped before he flashed me with a blinding smile. Well two could play at that game and I was tired of always losing. I straightened my back and caressed his muscular abdomen with my hands. Slowly, I made my way up his stomach to his chest and lowered myself. I felt ridiculous, but refused to look away from his eyes. They were locked on me, he stared at me as if I were a siren here to collect his soul. I lowered myself until my chest pressed against his, my butt lifted off of him as I whispered in his ear.

“I think you know exactly what you’re doing. These are very non-friend things to do and if you’re going to do this with your other friends, I don’t want any part in it,” I said. I lifted myself up and straightened my back as I sat on top of him. The confident smile was gone, replaced by a burning look I didn’t want to put a name to. “I’m not that type of friend Levi.”

I tried to push off, but he held me to him as he sat up. My breasts pushed against his hard one and he stared down at me. I stared up into his eyes as he brought a hand to cup my cheek.

“We’re friends and always will be. I’d never treat you like that. You mean more to me than you’ll ever know,” Levi breathed. “I…”

“You what?” I asked.

“Nothing,” Levi sighed.

I pushed off of him and this time, he let me go. I moved to the edge of the bed and threw my legs off the corner. This was intense. Before I could try and gather my thoughts, the bed dipped as he sat behind me. His legs dropped on both sides of me and I felt his hard body at my back. I forced myself to take slow steady breaths. This was not the way this was supposed to go.

His arms wrapped around me and rested around my waist. I hated how I didn’t even question it, didn’t think as I melted back into his embrace. I sighed and ignored the way this felt. This wasn’t what friends did, but when did Levi and I ever care about what others thought of us? He lowered his chin to the top of my head and I felt like a coaster.

We were friends, good friends. Maybe one of us, or both of us were lusting after the other, but if we hadn’t at least once in our friendship, would we be able to consider ourselves normal? He was hot, insanely so. It’s only normal to admit that he’s good looking. That or I was lying to myself to make myself feel better. He knew me in a way no one else did, but I couldn’t bring him into my world.

I stiffened with what that would mean, what that would do. I wasn’t in a position to try and help someone, I couldn’t do that to him. I needed to look at myself and deal with the crap going on in my life. I forced myself to my feet and he didn’t resist, didn’t try and force me down. He never tried to make me do anything I didn’t want to do and my heart warmed.

“Don’t do that,” Levi said.

“Do what?” I asked.

“Pull away from me,” he said.

“I’m just getting to my feet. I have plans today. I didn’t mean to stay long. I don’t even know what time it is. I have to stop home before I head out. Thanks for sharing your bed with me,” I said. I turned to face him, unable to look him in the eyes, I leaned down and pecked him on the cheek.

“What’s mine is yours. Where are you going?” Levi asked. I straightened and turned from him.

“The Lake. Do you have anything I can borrow?” I asked. I didn’t have plans, I just needed to put some space between us so I could sort out my thoughts. I had so much on my plate right now.

“I like seeing you in my clothes. You can’t wear a t-shirt dress to the lake?” Levi asked.

“You’re so funny,” I said sarcastically. I made a show of throwing my head back and fake laughing.

“I’m joking. I have something you can wear,” Levi said.

He stands to his feet and I follow after him. He pulls out a drawer in his wardrobe. It’s filled with shorts, shirts, and dresses. He says he isn’t a player, but has a drawer with clothes meant for the opposite sex. I shook my head as I went through it. I pulled out shorts, a sports bra, and a v-neck t-shirt. I stared at him and waited for him to turn around. When he did, he remained silent while I dressed. When I was done he turned around and smiled at me.

“Beautiful,” Levi said.

“Mm,” I hummed.

“Don’t forget that I’m here for you if you need to talk,” Levi said.

I walked to him, leaned on the tips of my toes, and hopped. He chuckled and leaned down so I could wrap my arms around his neck. I hugged him tightly and hugged me back. I let him go and smiled.

“I’ll see myself out,” I said.
