The girl bowed lower than before and stepped backwards until she left the room. The door closed with a bang and when her footsteps disappeared I arched my brow and gave him a look. His eyes widened and he flashed me a smile as he sat back in his seat.
“Something bothering you?” Levi asked knowingly.
“No, not at all,” I said in disbelief as I shook my head. Worry morphed his features as he studied me.
“Hey,” he said soothingly.
I brushed him off and pushed aside the thoughts that were trying to flood in. There was no need and no reason for me to be upset about this. I dodged the influx of feelings that threatened to cause a rise out of me. I hated the way he was looking at me, as if he would soothe any worry, or give chase after whatever monster had upset me.
I am not in a place to be…
He wasn’t mine to…
I had no right to be
I had no right to feel jealous.
Not of her, not of anyone else.
As much as I knew I didn’t have a right, I couldn’t help but hate the girl who had so kindly offered her services. It irritated me that he had messed around with someone he employed. That was a lie, it didn’t irritate me, it pissed me off. He told me the first night I slept here that I was the only girl he’s brought here. The way she looked this morning when he carried me from his room would make sense if they were a thing. I didn’t know what to think anymore. As I raised my eyes to his, I wondered if this was all some sort of game. When I turned away from him, his tip my chin back to him.
“I hope you know that you can ask me anything. If there is something you wish to know, I will tell you,” Levi said.
“Is she your girlfriend?” I asked.
“No, she is not,” Levi chuckled.
“Have you slept with her?” I continued with my questions. Levi blinked and looked into my eyes. His smile disappeared when he saw that I was serious.
“No.”
“So she just wanted to service you? Is that normal?” I asked.
“Yes,” he answered.
“Like sexual favors?” I asked. My cheeks flamed, but he gave me the green light and it was all word vomit now.
“No,” he said. His eyes softened.
“What kind of favor then?” I asked.
“… she wanted to feed me,” Levi said.
“You can’t be serious? We’re eating right now,” I said.
“Perhaps she was jealous. I’ve never brought anyone here before, or maybe she just wanted to see what we were doing,” Levi said.
“Goddess,” I huffed.
“I am kind of hot,” Levi said.
“I want to punch you,” I said exasperatedly.
“The ladies wouldn’t like that,” Levi teased. I cursed incoherently. “I’m joking, I’m joking,” he chuckled. I was irritated and hated that he was so damn handsome.
“Do you not trust me?” I asked.
“Why? Is that what you think? I’m an open book. Everyone wants something from me. I’ve learned to trust no one, but you don’t count. This world is better with you in it,” he murmured.
“Mm.. I don’t know about that,” I scoffed.
“Well, I know. Is it my turn to ask questions?” Levi asked.
“Mm,” I hummed nervously.
“I’ll take that as a yes,” Levi said. Before I could say it wasn’t, his eyes flashed. “Why don’t you tell me about the guy you were with yesterday.” I practically choked on my own saliva.
“That was… actually something I wanted to talk to you about,” I said.
“Oh?” Levi asked. There wasn’t a hint of amusement laced in his tone and his eyes scanned my face as if he’d find an answer there. I waited for him to say more, but he didn’t.
“I didn’t plan to meet him there, but it wasn’t the first time we’ve met,” I said. He watched me quietly, so I continued. “I wanted you to know that I didn’t leave you to go see him yesterday morning. I was swimming, I wanted to get some time to myself. You know how much I like to swim.”
“I know,” Levi said.
“He just happened to be there,” I shrugged.
“Like fate?” Levi asked.
“Like fate,” I confirmed. “He was there the night that everything happened with Dylan. Well, right before everything happened. I don’t blame him, but he’s why Dylan was so upset.” My mouth dried and I struggled to swallow.
“I can see… how that could happen. I sensed something about him…” Levi trailed off.
“Sensed? Are you a psychic?” I asked.
“Yeah, that’s what I am,” Levi chuckled.
“I knew it,” I joked.
“How did the two of you see him?” Levi asked
“He had business with Dylan’s father. It was all a coincidence,” I started.
“But you don’t believe in coincidences,” Levi finished.
“No,” I breathed.
“Is he..?” Levi trailed off unable to ask the question. When I looked at him he shook his head. “Continue,” he said with a smile.
“Promise not to get mad?” I asked.
“Did you kiss him?” Levi asked.
“No,” I laughed nervously.
“Then I won’t get mad,” Levi shrugged.
“You didn’t promise,” I said. Levi gave me a look before he leaned forward and booped my nose.
“I promise not be get mad as long as it doesn’t endanger you,” Levi said.
“Hey!” I exclaimed.
“What?” he shrugged.
“You don’t get to add conditions,” I said.
“I know you and I think I do,” Levi said knowingly.
“Mm…” I hummed.
“Come on now. Don’t hold back on me,” he said.
“Well.. We were talking and I somehow told him my whole life story. One thing led to another and he offered me a chance to take a break from my life here,” I said.
“… take a break? How?” Levi asked. It wasn’t often that Levi was upset with me, but I knew him well enough to know when he was. His eyes darkened and his body grew taunt.
“I may or may not have agreed to stay with him for a week?” I squeaked.
