The first thought that first crossed my mind was that I must have misheard. That was the only logical explanation because she couldn’t be serious. When she pursed her lips, I closed my eyes and swallowed. My throat was dry and I was thirsty, so fucking thirsty. I needed to get a better control on my emotions and my thirst. What the hell could Amia have been thinking when she agreed to this? She nonchalantly tells me that she’s going away with a complete stranger for a week and expected me not to get angry?
Where would she stay?
Where would she sleep?
Who would she sleep with?
This guy?
Fuck.
I saw red and almost lost my grip on the other half of me. For her, I tried my hardest to hold onto my humanity, for her I ignored the urge to feed from her. I had thought the day was nearing when I would tell her about what I am. If she were to choose me, I needed her to know what that meant. Those hopes went up in smoke as she talked about him. I clenched my jaw in an effort to stop myself from outright telling her she couldn’t go.
There was something about Amia that forced out the parts of me that had long since laid dormant. I was young compared to my kinds standards, but I’ve known Amia was mine since we were kids. Watching her with that fuck face, Dylan, was torture, absolute torture. Amia was precious, but as much as I wanted to stay, I couldn’t tell her what to do with her time, or who to spend it with. As much as I wanted to throw her over my shoulder right here, throw her over my lap, and spank her until her flesh was tender for me. My cock twitched with the thought and I hardened for the millionth time this weekend.
Damn the gods.
She drives me mad.
Shoving the mental image from my mind for now, I focused at the issue at hand. She barely knew this man, but that usually didn’t matter with her kind. I knew this, but I hated it. I love everything about Amia, everything except the fact that there was a man made by her Goddess out there for her. He was supposed to be perfect for her, love her unconditionally, and would do everything for her. I wanted to be that person to her. There was nothing I wouldn’t do for her.
He offered to whisk her away and shes just agreed? Yesterday was what? The second time she’s ever met him and now she’s going to leave with him? What if she never comes back? What if he’s… He’s a wolf, an alpha. She’s just going to go back with him to his territory without any strings attached? What if this is all a ploy to get her away from me? What if he hurts her?
Would she have said to me if I had asked first?
Is he the other half to her wolf?
If he was, she wouldn’t be here with me right now. So what is this? Why would he offer to take her into his home if she wasn’t? I knew who he was the moment I laid eyes on him yesterday. The past, the present, the war—all of it was irrelevant. It didn’t matter to me who he was, our distorted history, or what part he played in the war against my kind. All that mattered was that he held what was mine in his arms and for the fist time in a long time, I was scared.
Scared that this was a threat, scared that they’d somehow found me and knew how important she was to me. I’d been careful and kept my distance from her for the last few years to keep her safe, but I couldn’t do that anymore. I was jumping to conclusions and needed to clam down. Andrius may not have recognized me, the last time I’d seen him my body hadn’t changed from human to vampire yet. I pushed that thought from my mind.
As I watched him walk towards me with her in his arms, I had wondered if my selfishness had put her in danger. I knew when she walked over to me that I couldn’t let her go back home. I hadn’t known how to ask her to move in with me. I thought of easing into it and asking her to stay with me for a few days. I was stupid. I should have told her she was staying with me. At what point had I been afraid to make a move? I feared losing her, I feared scaring her. No, I feared her hating me when she found out what I was. When it came to Amia, I was a coward.
There was something between us, always has been, but she was finally starting to feel it. How could she not see that going with him was a terrible idea? This was the first time I’ve wanted to use my influence on her.
“What about your dad?” I asked.
Her beautiful brown eyes widened and her brows raised. I’d caught her off guard with my question. She had expected me to get angry, and I was, but I had control over my emotions. As much as she tested my patience, I didn’t want to be like my father. I would not be a man ruled by emotions. I sighed. At least, with all things that weren’t related to her.
“You’re not mad at me?” Amia whispered. She reached out and trailed circles into my arm.
“Oh, I’m mad. I want to spank you so you know how upset I am with you,” I growled. I watched as she bit her lip nervously. It was a habit of hers, but it only made me want to take a bite for myself. She gasped as she dropped her hand, but I grabbed it and pulled it to my lips. “I’m sorry. Sometimes I can’t keep my thoughts to myself. I care about you. If I didn’t try to tell you you’re being insane when you decide to go live with a stranger, could I really be considered a good… friend?”
