Nathan stood outside the door, listening for any sign that Katia needed something. Lorn was keeping Nathan company in case Selene wanted to see him. He was still trying to understand that the mate he rejected matched him with her twin sister because both of them were the moon goddess. He didn't know what he did deserve this big of a second chance, but he was determined not to mess it up. He would ensure that Selene knew he was hers and only hers. He would be thankful to Katia for the rest of his life for forgiving him and trusting him with her sister's heart. He hoped that Katia could forgive her own mate and find true happiness also. He and Nathan needed to figure out a way to settle all of this with their mates so they could move on to figuring out this new prophecy brought to light by his mother and Yanylla.
They watched as Kane stomped into the room, yelled at the girls, and then stomped back out a few moments later. The two men listened to the female voice that let it be known that Kane didn't know anything. Nathan looked at Lorn and stated, "That was your mate. Mine cannot speak that loud."
"Am I right in assuming the story I heard about her wolf forcing a shift at a very young age to fight Alpha Thomas, and he ripped her throat out.?" Lorn asked, it was hard to believe she had survived that. Nathan nodded his head and wished for the hundredth time that he could have been there to protect her. One thing that bothered him the most was that Thomas did not seem to have a sickness of the mind when they were at Alpha training together. Although Thomas was two years ahead of him, he had helped Nathan through his first year until he got the hang of training schedules and being away from home for the first time in his life. He seemed like he had a good head on his shoulders and the one thing he was terrified of was becoming like his father. Thomas was so excited when he found Lorna, his fated mate. "Lorn, let me ask you something, did Thomas seem like he had a sickness of the mind when we were all at Alpha training school together?" Nathan finally asked him.
Lorn looked surprised at Nathan's question but admitted, "I never really thought about it. When my sister started writing home or calling Mama crying, I just wanted to protect her and bring her home. When we received word she was killed in a rogue attack, I knew he was lying. The things she told us, there was no way she knew about that kind of stuff without him doing the things she told us to her. I just wanted to kill him. My parents were devastated and there were rumors about him abusing other girls. Why do you ask?"
Nathan shrugged and commented, "I don't know. Something is off with everything that has been going on, and I cannot put my finger on what it is."
The door to their mate's room opened just then, and Leo and Demon walked out laughing. They heard Selene tell them to come back tomorrow, and maybe they could find out together what the big secret was. Nathan heard Katia say to Demon, "Sir Demon, you are a true friend to our little uncle, which means you are our friend also. Thank you for watching over him."
Demon turned and bowed, "Lady rest your voice. We have spoken and laughed most of the day. If you need anything, ladies, please consider me your protector also." As he said that, he heard growls. Looking at them, Demon said, "No disrespect, Alphas." He laughed when he heard Selene tell the alphas to shut it and get their hides in there.
As Leo and Demon headed down the hall, Nathan and Lorn entered the room cautiously and shut the door. The two men settled themselves in the chairs on each side of the bed. They sat quietly, waiting for one of their mates to speak. Selene spoke first, as Katia sat looking at Nathan.
"Well, what did the two of you do that caused Kane to come in here and yell at us the way he did?" She inquired of them.
Both men glanced at one another, and Nathan suggested, "Maybe we should replace the large pavilion next to the first fire pit."
Katia's eyes widened as she spoke in her quiet tone now: "And why should we do that? It is not that old."
The two men had the decency to blush as they started trying to explain that their emotions got the better of them and that their wolves needed a release for those emotions. The two of them fought it out with each other and anyone brave enough to try to break them up.
Confused both twins asked, "Why did you fight with each other?"
Lorn spoke this time to explain, "We were blaming each other for getting thrown out of your room. Once Kane and Hyperion, broke our fighting up, they explained that maybe you girls needed some time to talk and take in everything that had happened. That where you were with Lucifer's soul was more than just figuring out if you wanted to return here or move on. He explained that the five of you learned things that had been forgotten or ripped from your memories. He explained that all of us have been pawns in some way or another."
Nathan picked up from here: "Lucifer explained a lot while we were in here together, but I never realized how Uranus had used him and what it had cost him. Hyperion's explanation has made me wonder if maybe Uranus was controlling more than just you two and Lucifer."
The four of them were quiet for a time, and when Nathan could not stand another moment of it, he begged Katia to tell him, "Little mate, why will you not let me in? Why do you shield your mind from me and not answer me when I speak through our bond? I know I hurt you, and I had hoped you would awaken and forgive me. I cannot change what I did and whether it was Zeus' blood awakening in my body or something your grandfather had done, it was not an excuse."
Katia glanced at Nathan, she did not know how to explain to him that she wasn't trying to disobey him. That she was afraid he was trying to control her and take her newfound freedom away from her. Selene leaned against her sister and whispered to her, "Titi, tell him. He will understand. Eventually, you can show him everything you cannot talk about through your bond with him. I am here, you are not alone."
Katia turned and hugged her sister, "Same for you Lili, you have been through just as much. You will have to tell Lorn and share your fears also. I will be right beside you the whole way. Where you go, I go."
Katia then turned back to Nathan, and Selene turned to Lorn. Both were wiping tears from their eyes, and the two males had enough. They both scooped their prospective women up and settled against the headboard, settling their women in their laps. They let their mates cry into their chests for as long as they needed. They had plenty of time to talk about everything and what was yet to come. Right now was a time for them to heal one another and get to know who they have become from all of this. Nathan and Lorn both felt that this was the beginning of who they were to become.
Nathan was stroking Katia's hair down her back, reassuring her, "My sweet girl, I promise I will never hurt you like that again. If you make me angry, I will walk away until I am calm. When I return, we will talk about it. I will not take anything from you. Your happiness and love are important to me." Nathan noticed his wolf, Kalen, had been quiet and wondered if he was talking with Aza, and she faired through everything.
Lorn thought how odd it was to be in the same bed as the other couple and show the level of intimacy they were. To speak as if the other couple could not hear or did not care. His wolf, Cully, sounded in on the situation, "From what I have gathered, Lorn, we are going to have to get used to this. Twins need each other and have trouble parting for long. Even their wolves are twins."
"I am not having sex with my mate in the same bed as her sister and her mate," Lorn muttered to his wolf.
"Calm down, dummy, Loza is laughing her head off at your remark. She says that will never happen." Cully informed him.
"Loza" Lorn repeated.
Cully chuffed as he told him, "Selen's wolf. Loza and Aza are the same as their human sides. They are made from one soul that split into two, one for each twin."
Grateful, Cully was able to provide so much insight that he turned his full attention back to Selene: " I understand, pretty girl, that you probably have some concerns and fears because your sister was originally mated to me by you, I might add, and I rejected her. I will never do the same to you. I will be forever grateful that you asked your sister to do your match for you, and she chose me. I will spend the rest of my life loving you and showing you how grateful I am for you."
Selene could feel his love for her, although they were not bonded yet, and she was desperate to believe Katia had gotten it right. She looked up at him with her eyes sparkling with tears, "Alpha Lorn, I want so much to believe you, but yet, I am terrified to at the same time. However, I will try. I think we should get to know each other some." As she finished speaking Lorn leaned down and stole a kiss from her lips. He pulled her tight against his chest and they sat quietly.
Katia had listened to Nathan speak with her through their mate bond. She still did not know how to explain things to him. She knows now that he was frustrated with such a broken mate and did not understand how to help her. She was still broken, she and Selene both, but this time they recognize their broken selves and hopefully can truly heal now. Finally, she reached up and stroked Nathan's cheek. It tickled and reminded her of another time his stubble tickled her. Looking him in his eyes, she spoke directly to him, as his mate, for the first time in a long time, "Nathan, there is nothing to forgive. I pushed you and you did not understand what I needed. I could not tell you. I still do not know for sure but I know we have to work together to fix this. Like Selene and Lorn, I think we need to get to know one another."
Nathan sighed in relief, "I agree my sweet mate." As the other couple, they remained where they were holding each other. The four fell asleep in each of their mates arms and slept like they hadn't in a long time.
The door to the room quietly opened and then quietly closed as Gammy whispered, "Sleep, my wolves. You are going to need your strength for what you are about to become."
