Lorn was in shock. He had found his second chance mate, and she was Katia's twin sister. The two girls were identical except for the color of their hair, their builds differed slightly, and Katia had more scarring on her face than her sister. However, they both had scars everywhere. He was frozen in place, staring at the unmoving girls on the bed. He needed to know what had happened to them and if they were going to be okay. Selene was beautiful and he could not believe she was his second chance. How is she going to feel about it? He had rejected her sister when she needed him the most. Would Selene understand or would she reject him like he deserved?
Nathan spoke first, "Alpha Lorn, I am sure you have many questions. Go and take care of what you need to and return when you are finished. Lucifer and I will be here to answer as many of your questions as we can."
Lorn moved toward his mate, and the big blonde wolf on the bed raised his head, sniffing at him. He growled once while blowing air out his snout and returned to his position between the two women. Was he their guardian or something? What had happened? He picked up his mate's hand and took in her sweet scent. Kissing her hand, he whispered, "I won't be long, my love. Rest, and when I return, I will find out what is going on so I can help you to awaken."
Lucifer snorted, "If only it was going to be that easy. I am beginning to think they have made up their minds and it is not what we wished."
Lorn asked startled by what Lucifer had said, "What do you mean? Made up their minds about what?"
Nathan spoke once more, "Lorn, go take care of your pack. Let your parents know where you will be. We promise we tell you everything when you return."
Lorn nodded and left the room, leaving the other two men to continue their vigil of waiting to see the twins fade into nothing. They were both loosing hope that the girls would return to this life. Lucifer leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees as he held his face in his hands. Nathan could hear him talking to the twins. He had taken to talking out loud to them as well as through the mind link. Nathan appreciated that Lucifer was trying to be courteous of his and Katia's mate bond. Lucifer, talking out loud, let Nathan know that he was not trying to take her from him. He was just talking and trying to keep them close to him. Nathan sat listening to Lu tell another of the stories from their youth. This one was about the time Selene had gone to the earthly realm to try once more to live there and foil Uranus' revenge plans.
Lucifer spoke for what seemed like hours. After they had eaten the lunch that Dalia had brought them, Lucifer told Nathan it was his turn to talk with the girls. Nathan spit out the sip of his drink he had just taken, "I don't think either of them want to hear anything I have to say. As you know neither of them think highly of me at all. I do believe one of them, if not both, would like to castrate me."
Lucifer snorted, "Runs in the family."
At that moment, Lorn returned, with a nurse following him into the room. This was the time of day Nathan dreaded the most: bath time. He would get to see his beautiful mate's gorgeous body, but he also had to see the scars all over her, and there was no one he could kill for it. It hurt him to know he had not been there to save her and keep that Alpha or her parents from torturing her. Nathan realized that the nurse was speaking, pulled himself together, and began listening.
"Now remember Alpha and Mr. Lucifer, she nodded at Lorn saying sir, you cannot go all manly, wolfie, or what not, when their scars are revealed. If it gets to be too much, please turn away or leave the room. We cannot focus on our job if you are in the way or are growling and snarling your anger. Remember we are helping them. They need to be clean so infection does not set into any of the open wounds they have." Nurse bossy reminded them all.
The three men sat quietly speaking. Nathan and Lucifer were telling Lorn about the grandfather and grandmother and what had unfolded in the other realm. They would stop every so often to allow Lorn to ask some questions, and they would answer if they could. Lucifer had the most information, but there were still questions that he could not answer.
Lorn sat quietly, watching the two nurses work quickly and efficiently to clean the two women. As he watched, he whispered, "How in the world did I get so lucky to have the other twin moon goddess as my second chance mate?"
Nathan chuckled, "I can help you with that. Simple, really, Selene wanted a mate but did not think it fair she matched herself to someone. She asked Katia to do so just before I lost my mind and destroyed our mate bond."
Lorn asked, "What did you do?"
Lucifer interjected, "That is a story for another day. I do not want to upset the calm I am feeling from them right now."
Nathan continued, "Anyway, Katia immediately agreed to be the one to match her sister and was excited about that. She spent days speaking with different men, which my wolf did not enjoy. But she was constantly talking about you and how much you deserved a second chance. That you made a mistake, that was all. I knew she was going to match you to her sister. She never told me if she did or not for sure."
Lorn thanked Nathan for telling him that and still could not believe she forgave him and matched him to her sister. Suddenly it dawned on him, "Holy shit, I am matched to a freaking goddess."
Kane walked in and, hearing the last part of Lorn's sentence, told him Katia got her way. He thought nice job little ghost. He heard Katia's voice suddenly, "Nice job for what?" Kane took a deep breath and then exhaled, "U, I think I just heard Katia. But she is not answering me now."
"Lucifer, any change?" Nathan asked.
Lucifer raised an eyebrow and answered, "Something is going on. I feel the girls are upset but not at us. I can feel happiness and sadness radiating from them. I can feel their wolves are much stronger too. I think we need to prepare ourselves for their awakening."
Lorn asked, "When?"
Nathan said, "How soon?"
Lucifer shrugged. "I do not know. I still don't know how I managed to grab both of their souls, either."
Mark and Kelp were now there with Kane, Nathan, Lucifer, and Lorn. They were discussing all of the new pack members and how so many of them who had shown up had been mistreated in some way. Even Bob is the only vampire so far. The children are the worst. Some of the stories they had heard from children showing up without any adults because they were running away from the ones that were supposed to protect them. The Moon Touched pack had private investigators checking out each child's story and making sure it was true before allowing them sanctuary. So far, every one of them had been telling the truth.
Kelp started chuckling, and Kane asked what was so funny. Kelp had a twinkle in his eye when he said, "We are going to have to hide or protect Demon and Bob from little ghosts when she finds out about them."
Mark started chuckling next, "She will bug them to death with all her questions. Maybe you should buy or build her a news studio so she can be an investigative reporter, Nathan."
Nathan smiled, "If she ever forgives me, I will build her whatever she wants. I will build her own dungeon to put me in whenever she is mad at me."
Mark was serious suddenly, "Nathan she would never do that. She refused to allow us to build dungeons on Moon Touched land. We had to build jails like the humans. Remember, she spent way too much time in a dungeon."
Nathan agreed and let them know he understood. They then continued speaking about the new members and the Starlight pack arriving. Mark and Kelp were arguing about who was going to capture Katia's attention more Bob or Demon. Kane and Lucifer were discussing Gaia and how she surprised everyone with her attitude and actions. Every so often, others would show up to visit with the twins and see how they were. When it was just Nathan, Mark, Kelp, Lorn, Lucifer, adn Kane, again, Nathan asked about Eric and how is he handling all of this. Kelp informed him, "he is doing okay. He is keeping busy helping the Starlight pack get settled. He said he can't do it again. He can't see our Alpha Luna in that state again. It hurts to much."
Nathan whispered, "I get it."
Kane bursts out laughing suddenly, and they all look at him like he lost his mind. "What? I just had a premonition. Katia, Dalia, and that whole group of women are chasing Bob and Demon around with notepads and pencils, yelling questions at them. You know that group and what they can get up to if left on their own to long."
Doc had entered and no one knew it until he said, "I am afraid that my mate is the mastermind behind a lot of what they get up to."
Nathan shook his head at Doc, "No, that would be Katia and Dalia."
Lorn asked, "Is Selene a part of this group of women?"
All of the other men answered at the same time, "She is now."
Suddenly, Zor whines from where he is lying on the bed, and a small voice croaks, "Who are Bob and Demon?"
