Lorn lay on the bed watching Selene sleep. She looked so young to have lived as long as she had and lived so many different lives in this realm. She was gorgeous, with her long white hair, plump pink lips, high cheekbones, and big purple eyes that mesmerized him. He was discovering that she was enjoying the freedom she had found living amongst her wolves and doing her goddess job, as she calls it, at the same time. Selene loves seeing how well she matches her mates. She is very proud of the fact that she has had very few not work out. He was tracing the little white scar on her forehead that looked like a quarter moon. He would have to ask her about it. It did not look like a scar from an injury. He leaned down and kissed it. She mumbled something and turned to her side. She snuggled her backside up against him, and he smiled at the fact that she was already searching for his touch in her sleep. The mate bond between them was getting stronger.
It was amazing how much the two sisters looked alike yet how different they were at times. Selene was a bit more confident and outspoken. Lorn was discovering that she tended to become outspoken when she was protecting herself and her sister. He wondered how her parents were going to react to him and if Katia had mentioned to them what she was planning. There has been so much chaos in all their lives lately, and hopefully, after this new prophecy is fulfilled, things will come down. These two sisters needed some normalcy in their lives. Lorn had pulled his mate tighter against his chest and was now tracing little circles on her tummy while she continued to sleep like the dead. She was quietly snoring and he thought it was the sweetest sound he ever heard. He must have dozed off because suddenly, he was thrown off the bed, and Selene was screaming at him to get away from her. She was crying and kicking out at him. He was trying to understand what she was yelling at him in between sobs. She was caught in a nightmare and someone was punishing her for some offense she had been accused of. Selene had quieted and Lorn was edging closer to the bed. She was on her hands and knees curled into herself with her arms wrapped around her head in protection. Every few minutes she would jerk like she had been struck.
Lorn did not know what to do. She was not coming out of whatever nightmare she caught in, and he did not want to leave her. He heard sounds from outside, and the door to their cabin swung open. When the door swung open, he heard Nathan trying to soothe Katia and both of them coming down the hall to the bedroom he and Selene were in. Lorn hurried to pull open the door and stood to the side when she came running in. She leaped to the bed, throwing her arms around her sister, and started rocking her back and forth as he whispered over and over she was there. Where one goes the other goes. She just kept saying the same thing, rocking her sister, and crying. Lorn explained to Nathan that they were sleeping, and suddenly, she started screaming. He told how it looked like someone was beating her and he could not wake her. He did not know what to do and was afraid to leave her. Katia had stopped crooning to her sister and was listening to him explain what was going on. She was still rocking her and laid her forehead against Selene's forehead. She stayed like that with her eyes closed until Nathan called to her. He seemed frightened of something but did not want to frighten her.
Katia opened her eyes and looked at Nathan. "Lili is caught with Loza in a nightmare. Grandfather's lingering magic is holding her there. She cannot escape the nightmare. Nathan, please help her; she cannot stay there. I know I have been trapped in a nightmare, and you slowly go mad until nothing is left of who you are."
"Sweetheart, tell me how to help her, and I will do whatever is needed." Nathan let her know.
"I do not know. The one time I was trapped you saved me." She cried.
Lorn was truly frightened now and needed to know what Katia was talking about, "What did you do to wake her up?" he asked the other alpha.
Nathan was confused. When had he saved Katia from one of her nightmares? As far as he knew, he was the cause of some of them. He was going over the short amount of time they had been together when it suddenly hit him. It was the night they sealed their mate bond. She had started screaming in her sleep and was living the nightmare right in front of him. Nothing had worked to wake his mate, and as a last resort, he ran with her into the shower. He had turned on the cold water and stood holding her as it hit her and startled her awake. He never had the chance to ask her about the nightmare because when she awoke she had asked to seal the mate bond. Once she had done that all thought of anything else flew out the window.
Nathan turned to Lorn, "Grab Selene and get her into the shower. Don't worry about her clothes just get her in the shower." He turned to Katia, "Sweetness, as soon as Lorn takes Selene, you run to the bathroom and get the cold water turned on. Just the cold for now no hot. Can you do that for me, baby?"
Glad to have something to do and grateful that Nathan was understanding of her need to help her sister, she answered, "Yes, I can do that." She paused a moment and then asked, "Nathan, once we have Selene in the shower, could you get us some towels and dry clothes?"
He smiled at his mate, knowing what she was doing, "I sure can, sweetheart. Don't worry I will get whatever you need. Just link me if you think of anything else." His little mate was trying to make sure he did not feel left out while she took care of her sister. Something happened to the two girls while their souls were locked away with Lucifer's soul in his mind. They came back different. They looked the same, however they acted differently. They still had some immaturity and naivety but they seemed like they found something they were missing.
Lorn grabbed Selene and gave Katia a moment to leap from the bed and run for the bathroom. He heard the shower running, and Katia was standing behind the water cascading down, waiting for them. He carried his mate in and stood holding her under the cold water. He and Katia stood there waiting and hoping. Selene suddenly gasped, sucked in a deep breath, and held it. Her eyes popped open and he could tell she was confused. Lorn could see that she did not know what was going on or where she was. He leaned forward and breathed into her ear, "Breathe baby."
Selene left the air she had been holding in her lungs free and sputtered, "Why are we in the shower with freezing water and our clothes on?" Hearing laughter from behind her, Selene spun her head to look where it was coming from and squeaked, "Titi, what are you doing? Why are we all in the cold shower?"
Katia laughed at her sister's expression. It was obvious that she thought Lorn and she had lost their minds. Reaching to turn the water off, Katia reassured her sister once more, "It is okay, sister mine. We will explain everything once we are in some dry clothes."
Nathan was true to his word. He had brought dry clothes for all three of them and could be heard in the kitchen making coffee. Lorn addressed the privacy situation, "Katia, why don't you change in the bathroom, and Selene and I will go into the closet and get changed." Nodding her head, she grabbed the sweats and went to change. When she returned she noticed that Selene was dressed in a pair of sweat pants almost identical to the ones she was wearing and one of her mate's hoodies. Katia was sporting one of Nathan's hoodies which looked like a dress on her. Selene had the same problem with Lorn's hoodie. Once they had settled on the bed with coffee in hand, they explained to Selene what had happened.
"Thank you. I thought we were trying some kind of weird mating thing or something," she exhaled. Katia rolled her eyes at her sister's little joke about thanking the moon goddess while her sister was now giggling at her little joke. Once everything was settled and calm again, the three filled Selene in on what had happened. She was impressed with her sister's mate. He sounded nothing like the wolf he was before all of this. He sat holding his mate in his lap and explained how the same thing had happened to Katia.
Lorn invited them to stay the night. He felt the sisters needed to be with one another, and frankly, he wanted the reassurance of knowing they were all together if anything else happened. They all got comfortable in the big bed and lay there watching the movie Alien when Lorn told them, "Enjoy our time like this. We only have a few more days and then Crael and Lora will return. Once they have it will be time for the meeting of the packs and the news of the prophecy we bring with us.
Nathan added, "Not to mention, they need to meet all the new members and see what Katia thinks of the improvements of the new pack members waiting to meet her."
"What new pack members?" she asked her mate, who gave her a playful growl and told her, "Patients, my love, you will see soon enough."
The four fell asleep once more and slept peacefully for the rest of the night. Gammy quietly stood in the doorway, watching the two couples as they slept. She was happy to see that they were mending what needed to be mended. Their bonds would become stronger as they grew. Gammy heard Talon approach and put a finger to her mouth, shushing the younger wolf.
Talon whispered, "Come on, Gammy. You need your rest, too. Let everyone breathe for a few more days before the next prophecy begins."
