Since leaving the packland, Jake and the other two warriors have spent their time together getting to know one another, so they can act like the stepbrothers they are supposed to be. They spend their days hunting and traveling. Trying to look like rogues and taking what they want or doing what they want. In the evening and nights, they cook the catch of the day, eat, drink, and play card games while asking questions of each other. By the time they find Lucifer’s camp, they are well acquainted with one another and act like the brothers they are supposed to be. Before riding up to the camp, they seek entrance into, Jake, Tiger, and Bryan to give themselves one more night to prepare. They make sure they have plenty of the herbs they need to chew that Miss Theia gave them to make them smell like rogues. They ensure that their cell phones are hidden inside the tree outside the camp and that they are only carrying burner phones. Alpha Nathan has all the burner phone numbers, so he will know it is one of them calling. They go over their story one more time and then sleep.
They weren’t asleep long when a voice woke them, “Well, well, well, what do we have here? Three little wolves and look at me, a big bad devil. I think you got this story wrong boys. Shouldn’t it be three little pigs and a big bad wolf?” The stranger said.
The three men jump ready to shift. The stranger steps forwards with red glowing eyes and that is all they can see of him. “Now calm down. My crew and I mean you no harm. My guards were out patrolling and came across your little camp. I came to investigate and see who was camping outside my camp and why.”
Jake stepped forward saying, “We are camping here for the night and then moving on tomorrow. We are heading to Nebraska for a job advertised up there.”
“Hmmm, now what kind of job would someone in Nebraska have that would draw three rogues?” Red eyes asked.
“The kind that pays for you to kill someone,” Bryan says.
Red eyes looked Bryan up and down saying, “So, you’re hired guns?”
“We prefer assassins,” Tiger answers.
“Of course, you do. Young fools! No wonder this realm needs gods to show them how to do things.” The stranger hissed.
“This world is full of idiots that are easily led astray and will sell their family for the right amount of money. I do not see what those nieces of mind see in the species that live here.” The man rambled.
Jake listened to what the stranger with the glowing red eyes was saying and knew exactly who he was. He asked him anyway, “Who are you, and why are you so interested in what we are doing? You are not a wolf or rogue, you smell of something else.”
The stranger smiled, showing perfect white teeth with fanged incisors on the top and bottom of his teeth. He held out his perfectly manicured hand and said, “Lucifer, the fallen angel at your service gentlemen. I was curious as to who you were because I am looking for my nieces. They have run away from home and their grandfather has sent me to bring them home.”
Jake shook the man's hand, answering, “I’m Jake and those are my brothers Tiger and Bryan.” The other two men nodded toward Lucifer. “Who are your nieces? Are they the same as you, a fallen angel?”
‘No, my man, my two spoiled little nieces are goddesses. One of their uncles has made them curious to live in your realm and they keep running away trying to do so.” Lucifer told them.
Frowning Tiger asked, “So what is the big deal? Why can’t they live here?”
“Their grandfather does not think it's safe for two of the gods to live in this realm. It may become a habit with the other gods. Plus, they are not safe here. Humans are known for killing what they do not understand or trying to utilize power that does not belong to them.” The fallen angel spat.
Bryan spoke up, “But humans are not the only species that live here, and the gods could hide among the humans as all the other species do.”
Laughing, Lucifer replied, “Obviously, you have never been around the gods. They are not ones to live and hide themselves among another creature. They are vain and proud individuals that cannot get along with one another, let alone other species.”
“Why do your nieces want to live here then? I mean they are goddesses too, so why would they want to be here with others unlike them?” Jake spoke up.
Taking a seat on a log next to the three men’s sleeping bags and the fire, Lucifer thought for a moment before answering, “I don’t know. My nieces are different. They do not join in with the fighting that goes on among us. They stay by themselves and with their parents when they are not working to make their creation better.”
“What do you mean their creation?” Tiger wanted to know.
“This is before my time. What I understand is that the titans helped in some war and then Uranus became fearful of them and had them locked away in Tartarus. Everyone believed it was Zeus that locked them away, but it was not. It was their own father. His other children he hid in his wife’s belly. Zeus freed them and gave them a place to stay on Mt. Olympus in the god realm.
Hyperion and Theia fell in love and mated. They gave birth to a boy and a girl. Theia became pregnant again, and it was thought she had given birth to another girl. She gave birth to identical twin girls. Zeus and Hera fall in love with the baby girls of their favored titans and decide to bestow special gifts upon them. Zeus decided that the girls should have more of a human nature than god, and he allowed them to create their own species. The babies wanted a wolf and a human species. So the wolf shifters were created. The girls made the laws that you all abide by. Each child was given a gift to help their creation. Selene, the eldest, was given the talent of matching wolves together as mates. Katia, the youngest, was given the talent of matching the wolf with the human. Then Hera and Zeus gave the girls the gift of having the ability to live on the earth realm as normal shifters. They still retain their talents and powers but can mate, have children, and experience what their creation experiences. The girl’s grandfathers think it is too dangerous for them to do this and decided to send me to find them and bring them home once again.” Lucifer finished.
“What do you mean by again?” Jake asked.
Lucifer chuckled, “My nieces keep devising plans to come here and live. Their grandfather keeps hauling them back home. They take turns, and he must figure out which one he is hunting down. This time it looks like one is here all the time and the other comes and goes right now.”
Bryan asks as innocently as he can, “So have you found them?”
“I think we are close. We heard of a new pack getting help from the Snow Moon Alpha to get their charter. Rumor is the new pack is calling themselves the Moon Touched pack.” Lucifer said, watching for any reaction from the three men. None showed any reaction.
“What does a new pack have to do with the missing goddesses?” Jake growled.
Standing and stepping into the light, Lucifer winked at them and said, “It is simple. When the goddesses are born to the earth realm, they have purple eyes. Purple eyes are a sign of a connection to the moon goddesses. We are on our way there to speak with the Alphas of the two packs and see if the girls are there or close by.”
Jake stood watching as the man took a step further into the light. He had black hair that was shaved on the sides and short on top. His eyes are black when they are not glowing. He was tall like a titan. The man was nothing but lean, sinewy muscle. There was not an ounce of fat on him. He was shirtless. His chest and stomach looked like the statues of the gods he had seen in pictures. He truly had washboard abs. Jake always thought that was an exaggeration, but he had seen it for himself and new it to be true. The angel knew he was good-looking and had the confidence to go along with the looks. The men knew that Lucifer was lying, and he was there to kill their Luna. Tiger cleared his throat, getting Jake to pay attention to the conversation once more.
“Since you boys are hired guns, why don’t you stay with us and help us with our mission?” Lucifer asked.
“We going to get paid?” Tiger asked.
Lucifer acted insulted and stated, “of course, $5000 per twin. You receive your share when the job is completed to the grandfather’s satisfaction.
“Why not. We can always head to Nebraska after we help you out.” Jake replied.
Lucifer stood saying, “Good. Get a good night's sleep gentlemen and I will see you in the morning.” He then left.
Bryan and Tiger looked at Jake as soon as they were alone. “We need to warn the Alpha.”
“I am already linking him.” Jake said.
“He was so normal, I kept forgetting what he was.” Bryan stated.
“Yeah, any other time he seemed like someone who could be a pretty decent person.” Returned Tiger.
Bryan laid back down in his sleeping bag as he said, “That is neither here nor there. He is here to find our luna and possibly her sister. Once he accomplishes that, he is going to kill them. We need to make sure he fails.”
