Francis' POV
Elsa pushed open the door of my office with a bang and walked in.
“I said knock before you come in,” I took a deep breath and tried hard not to lose my temper.
“She’s awake,” Elsa answered without apologizing for her rudeness.
“Angel is awake?” I stood on my feet.
“You want to see her now? Sit down and there’s something I need to tell you.”
She read my mind again!
Elsa was my sister and two years older than me.
She had the most evil and obnoxious gift in the world. She was telepathic and she could cure. As a result, I didn’t have any sick leave and she always got her way when we were young.
I rolled my eyes at her and sat down.
"Remember what you promised to the Moon Goddess? Only our pack members can know your real look and gift. You can't let Angel see your face and reveal your gift to her until you make her our Luna."
"Then how can I make her my Luna if she doesn't even know me?" I asked.
"I don't know. If you can't make her agree, you can cheat her and force her. Nicholas, you are a man. A man is good at playing dirty tricks," Elsa said and rolled her eyes. She was so mean and sarcastic to me.
But I couldn’t help thinking about what would happen if I used some tricks...
"Wait, Nicholas, are you really thinking about... Stop it, that's disgusting!" She looked at me with a frown.
“Stop reading my mind!” I said through my gritted teeth with my face flushed.
"Another thing, wear your veil when you meet her."
“No need. I’ll use another identity.” I hadn’t figured out how to face her with my true identity.
“You should be very cautious. You already broke part of your promise by dating her.”
“I’m not dating her,” I tried to explain, but obviously she didn’t believe it.
As I approached the room, my heartbeat accelerated.
I took over a mirror and checked over and over again.
After making sure that nothing was wrong, I knocked on the door.
No one answered. Worried about her, I opened the door immediately.
I saw her at first sight and what I saw wrenched my heart.
She curled up in the corner of the wall with her head buried in her arms. Her shoulders were shaking. It seemed that she was sobbing.
I rushed to her and held her in my arms.
“Angel!”
She raised her head after hearing my voice.
“Francis, why are you here? Are you allowed to come here?” She glanced around the room and asked with a low voice.
Yes, I was allowed to come everywhere in this pack as long as I wanted, but I couldn’t let her know now.
“Don’t worry, remember that I can change my look!” I wiped away the tear stains on her face and comforted her.
She forced a smile and leaned against my arms.
“Angel, you’re the bravest warrior I’ve ever known. Don’t be crying.” I changed into Santa Claus to amuse her.
As expected, she burst out into a smile.
“Francis, I have something to tell you.”
“What?” I changed back and looked at her.
She might want to tell me that she was about to be the Luna. What kind of reaction should I give her? I thought as I carried her to bed.
She swallowed hard.
“Francis, I don’t know if you heard it or not. They want me to be the Luna, but all I want is you. I will escape no matter what, do you want to go with me?” She looked me in the eye with expectation.
She meant what she said.
“I…” I stuttered.
She wanted to escape with me.
That was quite unexpected.
Actually, I was happy at her words. I knew she must have a feeling for me, but neither of us could escape. I was the alpha and she would become my Luna.
“I know this question is too sudden. You can think about it. Francis, I love you. I won’t accept men other than you. I won’t accept marrying a man I don’t even know,” she added and sounded determined.
I was still hesitating. She was a woman of speed. She hated hesitation.
As time went by, she didn’t get any answer. Her face changed.
“It’s your choice. It’s OK if you choose otherwise, but you get to choose.”
I took a deep breath. Oh God, I would hate myself for what I was going to do.
“Angel, I’m sorry.”
Her lips trembled a little as she heard the words, but she soon maintained a calm look.
“I can’t do that. I can’t betray my pack.” I shook my head and averted my gaze.
She didn’t speak for a moment. She must be so disappointed at me.
“Don’t you love me?”
“I’m sorry…” Of course, I loved her!
Then why do you come over?” She asked with a low voice.
“I came here because alpha Derek and Erika wanted to know if you were OK. You know, they’re my friends…”
“Get out of here!” She pointed to the door and said coldly.
I stood up and walked to the door. I bit my lips hard so that the pain could remind me of the right thing to do.
As I walked to the door, I turned around and added, “Angel, the alpha is a good man. Why not try to…”
“GET OUT!” She shouted and threw out a pillow.
I closed the door and got out.
At the end of the corridor, I pounded on the wall with both fists. I was a real jerk!
