Derek’s POV
I had a feeling that Erika was near me when I was having a meeting tonight. I just ignored it because I eagerly wanted to know their progress.
I hired several experts on poison and asked them to find if there was any clue in Baron's house. Tonight, they reported to me their progress. I sat through a long meeting and the final conclusion was that they didn't find many useful clues in Baron's house.
What they found in Baron's house confirmed that Baron didn't lie to me before he died. But Baron had destroyed almost all the clues related to the cure.
I was in low spirits tonight.
When I came back, Erika was sleeping. I lay beside her and turned to her.
I kissed her on her forehead, propped myself on my elbow, and looked at her.
These days I was busy trying to find the cure and spent little time with her. I knew she was not satisfied with it, but I wanted to find the cure as soon as possible. Therefore, when she went to other packs, she could communicate with other people freely.
She frowned with her eyes tightly shut. Her hands clutched at the sheet tightly.
She was pretending to sleep. She overdid it and made it quite obvious.
Before I knew it, a smile appeared at the corner of my lips and grew larger.
Now I was sure that she really went to see me tonight, but I didn't know why she came back without asking me what I was doing.
Forget about it. Now that both of us couldn't fall asleep, better to have some fun than waste the time.
I held her waist from behind and pressed myself against her.
She opened her eyes in shock immediately and looked at me in confusion.
"Did I just wake you up? I'm sorry," I said as I slipped my hands under her sleeping gown and then kissed her before she could say anything.
I got a headache when I got up the next morning. I only slept for four hours last night. Erika was still sleeping. I kissed her on the forehead and then left the bedroom.
Firstly, I needed to go to my office and deal with pack affairs. These days, Gerlad and Kent were responsible for the pack affairs and they only left the most important work to me.
However, when I arrived at the office room, a box attracted my attention.
What was it?
I walked over and opened it. There seemed to be food in it. There was salad and bacon. But I already ate my breakfast.
It occurred to me that Erika must have come here last night. She wanted to send me some snacks, only to find that I was not in the office room and that I lied to her. She left the food here and found that I was in a meeting in a building and discussing how to get her fully recovered.
Yes, that was what happened last night.
To reassure her, I sent her a message.
"They prepared a meal box for me, but I have eaten breakfast. Do you want it?"
She replied immediately, "Yes, I'll get up and fetch it now."
I smiled and shook my head.
Finally, there was a piece of good news.
Gerald had found Baron's teacher! His name was Mike. Baron was his best and most talented student.
Mike was old and I didn't know if he could provide any useful information. After all, Baron developed the poison after he left the pack.
Whatever, I would give it a try.
I went to the Lumiere Pack with my research team this afternoon.
Knowing that I wanted to see Mike, Alex knew what I wanted to do.
"Derek, are you sure she needs medical treatment, instead of mental interference?"
“Yes, I'm sure. Alex, I don't want to keep it from you. I once asked a doctor to hypnotize Erika and see what the problem was. He didn't think it was caused by a mental disorder. I had Baron's house searched and all his documents indicated that there was a cure, but all the clues about the cure were destroyed.”
Alex nodded and led me to Mike's house.
Mike was a man in his seventies, but he looked much older than I thought. His hair was sparse and white. I didn’t want to break his heart, but I had to tell him what a devil Baron was and what he did to Erika.
Mike was silent for a minute.
Just when I wondered if he didn't want to help us, he sighed and looked at me apologetically.
“I knew he was paranoid before I accepted him as my student. That was why he could become an expert in poisons. I didn’t refuse him. He was the most talented student I had ever met. I should’ve thought of it when I accepted him. It’s also my fault. I taught him how to make poisons, but I didn’t teach him how to use them,” Mike said in his low and hoarse voice.
“I didn’t mean to blame you. We can really use your help,” I looked at him nervously.
Mike nodded without hesitation. “I can help you.”
Yes!
