Erika’s POV
My birthday was coming. The whole pack was preparing for my birthday party.
I thought that Derek might become busier as he needed to prepare for the party, but it was the opposite. He seldom worked overtime these days and spent much time with me.
I asked him to accompany me to other packs, but he didn’t show much interest in it. He promised that he would take a break with me after my birthday. I didn’t insist because I guessed maybe trips were too much for him considering his health condition.
But he didn’t seem like a man got poisoned at all. I couldn’t see anything wrong with his health. Maybe the problem was already solved and he was still waiting for a chance to tell me.
One thing was weird. He always stared at me when he was talking, especially at my lips. There was nothing wrong with my lips.
On my birthday!
When I got up and went downstairs, I was surprised to find that Angel was sitting on the sofa in the living room.
I thought that I was still in a dream and stood on the spot. I was completely stunned.
Derek wrapped his arms around my shoulders and said, “Don’t you miss her?”
I nodded and ran downstairs. She also got up and ran over in a flash.
We hugged each other tightly and didn’t let go until after a long time.
Derek had left the pack house. We walked to the sofa and sat down.
Yes, I miss you. I mind-linked her. Thank Goddess, I could still mind-link her!
“I miss you so much, Erika!” Angel said excitedly. She seemed to lose some weight, but she looked quite happy.
I’m sorry. I don’t mean to defend myself, but I didn’t know it, seriously. Francis asked Derek to keep a secret. By the way, how is it going between you and Francis? I mind-linked her with curiosity.
“It’s not your fault. I couldn’t accept it at first, but when I found out that I could not change it, I just … learn to accept it. I miss you so much, miss my family, and everything about our pack,” Angel said and pursed her lips. It must be hard for her in the beginning.
The next second, she looked up at me with a big smile. “You know what? Francis is a nice guy. He is handsome, humorous, and very considerate. He agrees that I can live in his pack for three months before I make up my mind. So, I’m pretty happy now. And I heard that it’s very safe now and there will be no war recently. You can come over to my pack and see me!”
Seeing that she was great, I heaved a sigh of relief. I mind-linked her. Yes, I planned to take a trip, but Derek is too busy these days. We’ll visit you together after my birthday.
“Yeah!” Angel jumped out off the sofa excitedly. “Come on, I’ll do your makeup. You’re going to be the most beautiful woman today.”
We went upstairs together.
We spent the whole morning getting dressed and doing makeup. When I went out of the
room and got downstairs, the living room was full of guests. Besides the pack leaders, Alex, Bentley, Francis, and even James all came here. Gift boxes of different sizes were piled up on the ground.
They noticed me and began to talk about how beautiful I was today. Now I felt that I was a real queen.
I was in a gorgeous gown. I did wear a tiara and the necklace that Derek gave me. I lifted my dress and went downstairs slowly. Derek stood downstairs and looked at me, reaching out his hands for me.
I walked to him and held his hands. Applauses burst out from the guests.
The party began!
Soon it was the most important part, opening the gift boxes.
I sat on the sofa and began to open them one by one.
I received a set of cosmetics from a new brand, a Porche, and two daggers made of the most valuable material and other things. Alex gave me a necklace that once belonged to my mother. I held it to my chest and had the urge to cry.
He patted me on my shoulder and comforted me, “You’ll know more and more about her.”
After opening all the boxes on the ground, I was already tired.
At this moment, Derek put a box on the ground.
“This is my gift for you. And I have a requirement. You need to see it alone.”
The other guests burst out into laughter. Some even started to whistle.
That was the gift I expected the most. The other guests that just crowded over me all turned their backs on me.
I looked at the black box on the ground and suddenly got nervous.
What did he want to give me? I was so excited.
Derek looked at me with a smile and encouraged, “Open it.”
I nodded and put my hands on the box.
I had a feeling that the box was moving, but how was that possible? I must be mistaken.
I opened the box.
The next second, something flew out of the box quickly. I didn’t see it clearly.
“Oh!” I burst out in a cry and flinched.
It was a pigeon! He sent me a pigeon!
Just when I was about to lose my temper and ask Derek about this, the other guests looked at me in shock and their jaws dropped.
Derek looked at me with tears in his eyes.
I just realized what happened. I let out a cry. But how was that possible?
Derek held me in his arms and explained it to me and the other guests.
I didn’t know what to say. It came all of a sudden and I simply didn’t know how to react.
Now I understood what Derek was busy with. He worked day and night so that I could talk as soon as possible.
That was the best gift I had ever had.
