Angel’s POV
His expression spoke volumes.
Everything was clear.
Of course, he couldn’t kill Francis in front of me, because he was Francis!
I knew that Francis could change his identity, but it didn’t occur to me that Francis was only one of his identities.
Now I understood why these days he kept a distance from me deliberately. He was afraid that I could recognize him.
No wonder he gave me a sense of familiarity this night.
Actually, he did a good job of concealing his identity before this night. I had never doubted that they were the same guy after I knew the alpha's name was Nicholas.
But the instant he was out of control and his eyes turned from brown to black, somehow it conjured up Francis’ face. It was at that moment that the seed of doubt was planted.
“Why am I thinking about Francis at this moment?” I thought to myself.
I made efforts to get rid of that jerk's face in my mind. However, it worked the opposite way, for a second, his face overlapped with Nicholas’ face.
My Goddess, I remembered that Francis once tried to mark me…
Could he possibly be?
The more I looked at him, the more he seemed to be the same guy as Nicholas.
Nicholas was completely out of control, so I pushed him away first and we went back to the hut.
As we talked, I observed his behavior closely.
Now that his face was behind the veil, the way and the speed he walked reminded me of Francis.
Francis could change his identity and fool the enemies, but it didn’t work for those who knew him well.
After I asked him that question, his dumbfounded look verified my guess.
Nicholas was Francis!
I remembered how Francis rejected me when I asked him to escape with me, how he showed up as Francis first and then came to me as Nicholas.
For all these days, he was fooling me around!
What a jerk!
All of a sudden, I grasped Nicholas’ arms and pushed him outside the door.
“Angel, what are you doing?”
“Get out of here, Nicholas, or should I call you Francis?” I said under gritted teeth.
"Angel!" His face changed, but he held on to the door and refused to let go.
"It must be fun fooling me around, right? But the game stops now! Get out of here and never ever show up in front of me! Because I might tear you apart and be the alpha myself!" I screamed hysterically while pushing him out.
“I'm sorry! I'm a jerk! It's all my fault! But let me tell you one more thing before you kick me out of here, please!” he said while holding the door tight. He was taller and heavier than me, so it was hard for me to close the door.
“I don’t want to hear more lies!” I shouted while kicking him and throwing fists at him.
“It’s very important. Angel, please hear me out. Now that you’ve known basically all the things that I have kept from you, I won’t lie to you anymore, please!” He begged and looked at me pitifully, with most of his body exposed to the rain.
“Humph, look at yourself. Nicholas, you look nothing like an alpha now. What do you want to tell me? Spit it out and go fucking away!”
“Angel, I'm not defending myself, but it’s not my intention to cheat you and hurt you. The thing is, these are the things that you shouldn’t know until the ceremony. And the pack must be very angry with you now if you know it. So just pretend you don't know it. I’ll cover for you in front of Elsa. Everything will be fine as long as you keep it a secret and never let anybody know it. And one more thing, I don’t need to be an alpha in front of you. I’m just your mate,” he said and looked pretty much honest.
“Have you finished your speech?” I asked emotionlessly.
He nodded.
“Get out of here!” I shut the door immediately with a bang.
It was silent finally, only the sound of rain could be heard.
Although the door was broken, Nicholas didn’t try to get in anymore. He didn’t even make any sound, as if he was not outside at all.
I could sleep now.
However, as I turned around, I noticed the black umbrella at the corner of the wall.
My Goddess, he was out in the rain without an umbrella, and it was pouring.
No, I couldn’t be softened. He was a jerk and he deserved it.
I lay on the bed and closed my eyes.
But I opened my eyes the next minute.
I forced myself to close my eyes.
It must be the rain that left me restless.
I didn’t know how much time had passed. I had tossed and turned countless times.
Finally, I took a deep breath and got out of bed.
I grasped the umbrella at the corner of the wall and opened the door.
As I was about to throw the umbrella at Nicholas, he was nowhere to be seen.
I glanced around. The rain kept falling but it was much smaller, and there was no trace of him.
I stormed back, feeling like an idiot.
I really thought that he would stand outside in the rain for such a long time.
How ridiculous!
What was wrong with me?
While I had been worried about him, he had already come down the mountain.
Of course, he was the alpha of the pack, the most powerful man of the pack. No one could make him stand in the rain, not even his mate.
Speaking of which, was I really his mate?
I had no idea about it. If I was really his mate, I should’ve known it the first time I met him. I guessed that was what the mate bond could do. Why was it different in my case?
