Angel’s POV
After leaving the training ground, I walked in the street alone and aimlessly.
No one followed me possibly because they knew I couldn’t run far.
The walk didn’t take away my stress and low mood. I noticed a mountain ahead and began to climb the mountain.
I knew my leg needed a rest, but I longed for a place where I couldn’t be found, a place isolated from the whole pack.
Two hours later, I was on the top of a mountain, lying on the ground. The smell of the grass and mud tranquilized my mind, so I fell asleep soon. Whenever I was in low spirits, I would get close to nature. I believed nature had a lot to offer.
Wait, a drop of water fell on the tip of my nose.
What was it?
Soon, more waterdrops could be felt on my eyelids and cheeks.
I opened my eyes.
Of course, it was raining.
It was getting heavier in the blink of an eye.
I jumped up and began to run. Thank Goddess, I saw a hut ahead, which could be my temporary shelter.
I ran to the hut before I got soaked wet. I pushed the door tentatively, and to my surprise, it opened. The door didn’t work.
It was small, empty, and deserted, without electricity or water, but at least I found shelter on a rainy day!
The rain kept falling. I didn’t know how long it had passed. I got nothing with me. The sky was dark and gloomy, making it even harder to know the time.
Somehow, I thought of Nicholas again, that bastard, the cause of my bad mood these days. I bet he wouldn’t even wonder where I was.
Whatever, I could stay here until the rain stopped and I would go down the mountain myself. I could take good care of myself and I didn’t need anyone’s help.
There was a bed at the corner of the wall, although there was nothing on it.
The sound of the rain pattering on the hut made me sleepy soon, so I slept on it.
Wait a second, I could distinguish tiny footsteps from the deafening sound of the rain.
I opened my eyes warily and pricked my ears.
Yes, someone was approaching the hut.
I got out of bed and walked to the door on my tiptoes.
As soon as the guy outside put his hand on the handle, he would find it unlocked and walk in. And I would hit him with my fists no matter who he was, for he ruined my peaceful rainy day.
Three, two, one. I counted silently.
The door opened.
I clenched my fists and pounded on whoever came in, but the familiar figure and his dominant vibe made me stop.
It was Nicholas!
He showed up at the door with an umbrella. And he still wore a black veil.
My lips twitched. Was that really necessary?
I shut the door again, although it was broken. I just didn’t want to see him.
He raised his arms and blocked the door with his body.
I sighed and gave way to him.
As he walked in, I turned my face to him. What was he doing here? Did he come over just to blame me?
He cleared his throat and then his voice came from behind my back, “Angel, I’m sorry for what happened this afternoon. I apologize.”
Well, that surprised me.
Arrogant as he was, he apologized to me. What was wrong with him?
“If you really feel sorry, I want to leave…”
“No! You can’t leave,” he interrupted me immediately, “Angel, let me make it very clear, you can get anything you want, but don’t ever think about leaving me!”
Stunned, I turned around and faced him. Why was he suddenly so emotional?
“Angel, I need to explain so you don't get me wrong. After all, there have been too many misunderstandings between us.
“I didn't pull you away at noon today because I assumed it was your fault or for Nelda’s sake. I knew Nelda must be the one to blame. My guards figured out what exactly happened soon after you left. I pulled you away simply because straddling a girl in public and threatening to cut off her hair is not what Luna should do.
“You're a good soldier and you're used to solving problems with violence, but as a Luna, you don't need to get physical every time you're offended. The guards can do it. Porter can do it. If no one takes your side, you can still count on me.”
Well, that was…
Although it was all dark and he couldn’t see me, I lowered my head and avoided any eye contact.
What he said simply … overwhelmed me. It was the first time I heard him say so many words and got so emotional.
And did he say that I could count on him?
Really? Could I really count on him?
But wait a second.
“I still have one last question.” I took a deep breath, lifted my head, and faced him.
“What?”
“Why did you push me away when I fell into your arms? Was it because you didn’t want me to see your face?” I asked and waited for the answer nervously.
