ADRIA’S POV
I wasn’t sure what her stare meant but it felt like she wasn’t pleased with me hanging around with Monica. The last time she had asked me about Monica, I hadn’t really said much like we were close so she was probably thinking I was friends with Monica and refused to tell her or she thought Monica was taking up my time and I wasn’t really hanging out with them.
Well, Monica wasn’t at fault for that, Lucien was.
Immediately I thought that way, I felt guilty. I was the one at fault for not being able to split time between my friends and my boyfriend and now Stacy looked like she felt Monica was the one secretly taking up my time even though she had known her for only a week.
I wanted to signal to her but she looked away and the car sped off.
My hands found my phone in the pocket of my jeans and I immediately dialed her number but her phone was switched off. Did Stacy really think I would trade her for Monica or choose anyone else over her?
“What’s wrong?” Monica asked, and I shook my head immediately.
“Nothing. Nothing’s wrong. Just…” I started but didn’t know how to complete my words so I just left it incomplete.
We took a cab to the library Monica had mentioned and when we got there I was stunned. It was huge and flooded with students although the students who walked in were dressed a little too flashy for nerds. Not that I was being judgy, I was just used to people dressing a little more decent and boring when they went to study.
“Here we are.” Monica said gazing up at the building with so much delight.
“Oh…” I let out softly, still taking aback by the number of students and their flashy style of dressing.
We walked in amongst the throng of students and queued at the reception desk.
“Since when did a library become such a popular spot?” I muttered to myself quietly and was surprised when Monica replied. How did she hear me? I had said it really quietly and it wasn’t like the atmosphere was quiet. In Fact it was buzzing with conversations everywhere.
“I guess the students at the University want straight As like yours.” She replied, and I nodded, pushing my hair out of my face.
We waited for quite a long time and finally when it was our turn, we were given floor, room and seat numbers and Monica actually paid.
Wow… it wasn’t even a public library.
We took the elevators to our designated floor and I couldn’t help wondering at how magnificent the place was.
“Are you sure this is a library?” I asked, looking around at the way the elevator was carefully decorated.
“Of course, it is. It’s a library designed for rich kids. There are separate floors for tutors who excel in all courses, there are tutors who specialize in exams. They give sample questions based on their experience and they also have the educational counselors, you go to them for counseling on your course, they advice you which is best for you and which is not. We also have the stress relievers, they host a talk session which is said to relieve your stress, they’re also said to be humorous as laughing greatly reduces stress.” She explained and the whole while, I was watching her mouth move fluidly.
“Oh…”
“Oh! They also have a relaxation center. There are games and all sorts of things but you can only access it for thirty minutes after one hour of reading so if you really want to play there you must have read for an hour. The librarian has a timer and takes note of each student, the time they get in and the time they leave. There is also a place where you can relax and get snacks. Overall, this place is just awesome. They have all the books you’d need in the world. Not just educational books but also literature, novels and all, but they do not have books with mature content. That’s one of their policies.” She explained further.
“I’m still shocked at all this extravagance. You must have paid a lot to access this library.” I pointed out as I studied my reflection in the floor of the elevator.
“Yes, of course I had to pay for the lovely reading atmosphere, the books I read and the hours I get to use here.” She replied, and I nodded softly.
Monica was definitely from a really rich home. Everything about her shouted it out. Apart from reading at a really cool library, she wore clothes that would definitely cost a fortune to buy and she spoke with elegance.
Earlier when she had defended me from that girl who was going to act like a bully, and cause trouble for me, she spoke with the confidence that came from having people who were strong enough to back whatever she did and support her.
She probably had a rich dad who pampered her and consented to whatever she wanted.
When we got to our floor, we located the room and dropped our cards with the librarian we met there.
The room was beautiful. It was decorated with silver wallpapers with black swirly and spiraling lines, the kind that was beautiful to look out and each reading cubicle was separated by glass and in each cubicle was a mini fan, chairs and there were cubicles for one, two, three, four people. There were also cubicles for groups.
The floor was decorated with black marble and the light from the chandelier above reflected on it. It was a really cool atmosphere for reading and it had proper lighting and of course there was the quietness only a library possessed.
Why was a library as extravagant as this? Anyone would go to a library with cement walls as long as it had books. I didn’t think a library was anything to spend lavishly on.
The shelves which were behind the cubicles were large and enormous and had ladders so the readers could reach for any book they wanted, and just then my eyes fell on the people in the cubicles who were staring at us.
They were all boys.
Not just boys, boys who were dressed like they were was a huge birthday party to attend.
