LUCIEN’S POV.
Adria had been so busy that she rarely had time to come for lessons but whenever we passed each other by in the halls, we locked eyes and in hers, it felt like she was wondering if she really had someone like me all to herself. It felt like she saw flustered having someone like me in her lie and those little moments made me happy. Whenever we had class together, we shared secret smiles and locked eyes a lot more.
For the group and individuals assignments, she always came to my office but we always had little time to talk because she had way too many classes and little time.
Two days had passed and I rarely caught sight of Monica. Whenever I left my house, I didn’t see her and at night too, I didn’t see her laundering around her house through my window waiting for me to come out. Had she really gone? The thought made me happy. If she was gone, then it would be better. I wouldn’t have to hurt her more than I already did and I and Adria’s growing love wouldn’t have to be interfered with.
My doorbell rang and I went to it to check who it was. It was Zayne, my beta.
I opened the door and he stepped in, and bowed slightly.
“I hope you didn’t wait too long?” He asked, as I led him in.
“No, I didn’t. Wait a minute. Let me get you something.” I told him, as I left for the fridge. I took out two bowls of ice cream and went back to him. He was already sitting on the sofa and staring around my modest house.
“This is nice.” He said as I dropped a bowl of ice cream in front of him.
“Yeah, it is. So, I guess you’ll be staying here for a few days then.” I stated as I scooped a spoon of ice cream, dipping it into my mouth.
“I plan to return today. I only came because you asked me to.” He replied focusing on the ice cream he was busy spooning into his mouth.
“No. You have to be here for a few days. I’ve been overworking you too much. If possible, I’d like you to get a house here and join me in hunting those damned vampires. It’s odd as they’re really quiet. I just don’t understand it.”
“Move here? That’s impossible. The Kingdom…” He started but I cut him short.
“One of the other betas can do it.” I suggested.
“I don’t think I’d do well among the humans.” He insisted, dropping his bowl of ice cream, and I looked away thinking of how to start on my next topic.
“Uh…” I started and he raised a curious brow.
“There’s something you need to say, right?”
“Yeah I… I found my mate.”
“Seriously?” He asked, straightening up in his seat.
“Yeah. She’s human.” I added, and could feel the shock radiating off him like radio waves.
“Hu…human? That’s rare.”
“Yes, I knew it the moment I saw her. We kind of… we kind of have a relationship now, but Monica’s been a real threat, I don’t know if she’s returned now but…”
“Monica? Alpha Grayson’s daughter?” He asked in surprise.
“Yeah she’s here.”
“Here? Here in New Orleans? What the hell is she doing here?” He asked with his hands yapping madly.
“She’s interested in me and keeps making lame moves I’ve seen too many times. She followed me here and befriended Adria.” I explained and sighed.
“I’m guessing Adria’s the mate.” He muttered and I nodded.
“It’s really sick. She’s like a leech. So clingy even when it’s clear I’d never want her.” I said strongly, feeling angry as I thought about her and just then the doorbell rang.
“Who could that be?”
“Adria or Monica. If it’s Adria, you’d have to leave.” I said with a nasty smile and he shook his head smiling, “But if it’s Monica, damn you have to stay.” I added, and he burst into laughter.
“Alright.”
However, I got to the door only to see Adria’s friends.
“Can we come in?’ Stacy asked and I stepped back. They walked in, looking around and I led them to a sofa.
They sat and I also took my seat.
“What can I offer you?”
“No, actually we’re here to…” Stacy was saying, but suddenly stopped as she finally noticed Zayne. She stared at him with her mouth slightly open and Daniel spoke up instead.
“Professor, Adria didn’t go home last night, nor was she in school today.” He said quickly and Stacy immediately stopped staring at Zayne and nodded.
“Yes, so we thought she was here.”
“Adria didn’t come here last night. She hasn’t been at my house for two days straight.” I informed them sitting up straighter.
“Sir?” Tommy asked, with surprise in his eyes.
“That’s… that’s really odd.” Stacy said like she was finding it hard to believe me. “Adria won’t do that.” She added, looking struck.
“When last did you see her?” Zayne asked leaning forward with his elbows on his knees and hands clasped together.
“Yesterday! She wanted to met Monica. She said something like Monica was leaving.” Tommy said sharply and I and Zayne shared meaningful looks.
“Do you know where they met up?” Zayne questioned.
“Probably at Monica’s house.” Tommy replied although there was uncertainty in his voice.
“I’ll check the camera in front of my house. Monica stays in the building opposite mine. If Adria went there yesterday, I should see it.” I suggested, and got up from my seat. “What about her mum?” I asked.
“She’s really worried.” Daniel replied with worry reflecting in his eyes.
“Just wait a little, I’ll search for Adria.” I said, and left for the stairs. I pushed open the doors to the balcony and decided to use the camera there because it could see even from a distance.
However, when I checked it, she was nowhere to be found.
And the worst thought came to my mind.
Adria had been kidnapped.
