After Divorce: Loved by the Secret Billionaire CEO

Chapter 22 The pain

Ch. 22 / 155 Apr 28, 2026

Rachel's POV

Tears built up in my eyes as my mother accused me of sleeping with directors just to get a part in the show.

She accused me of sleeping with men for money, me!

Never in my life would I ever think that she would do something like that... For Lana... That damn...

She even slapped me for her... Why can't she tell that that bitch is lying? Why was she only accusing me?

"Is it because Lana complained to you that we would be working together? Is that why you're doing this?" I asked her with tears in my eyes.

I watched as she struggled to find an excuse.

Why couldn't she see between her daughter's lies? Is this what it meant when they said blood is thicker than water?

"No..." I heard her say, and then she continued.

"It's because I don't want you inconveniencing my daughter in any way. Lana is a good child, no matter what you do to her, she always has your side. She pleads for you every time... Why can't you see how good of a sister she is?"

Good child? ...Good sister? If anything she's just a good actress!

"And how can't you see that she is playing you, all of you?" I tried to reason with her, but she just wasn't seeing it.

Then she said something about things going back to the way they used to be.

I shook my head, my tone pleading.

"Things can never go back to how it used to be...Not even if you refuse to see what's right in front of you."

Why are they all blind to Lana's real colors?

Her softened face suddenly became cold again; she bent down to pick up her purse. Then she turned again to face me.

"All I came here to tell you is to drag you out of the cast; you and Lana can't be in the same show; I don't want you near my daughter."

I see now.

It became clear to me that I meant nothing to this woman any longer.

She wants me to leave the show just because of Lana...

I cleaned the tears that had fallen from my eyes harshly with my hands.

Since she's made her decision, I was going to make mine too.

"I'm sorry, Mother, but I have to decline your request. I got the part in the show fair and square, I don't care what you heard about how I got my part, but I'm staying in the show." I said defiantly, no idea where the sudden burst of confidence came from.

I could see how enraged she was. I had never seen my mother this angry before, but it was needed if I was going to reveal Lana's real colors to them.

"Goodbye Mother," I picked up my bag and left my mother standing there.

The tears I held up began falling like drops of rain.

Why does it hurt so much?

I walked ahead before seeing where John had parked. He was looking so warily... Like if I didn't enter the car he would follow me just to make sure what happened last time would never repeat itself.

The last time when I refused to follow him so I could cry my heart out... The time when I almost got raped.

I couldn't risk it... So I entered the car, and he had already opened the door.

My tears freely fell inside the car.

I had lost my mother... The only person in that house who cares for me other than myself... I just lost her.

It hurt like crazy... I felt like my heart was torn into pieces.

"Ms Rachel, are you okay?" I heard John ask from the driver's seat.

"Yes..." I sniffled, trying to dry my tears with my hands, but they just kept coming.

"I'm... I'm fine." I shut my eyes tightly.

I was anything but fine right now... I wanted to scream!

"Are you sure?" He insisted.

"I said I'm fine!" I yelled.

This isn't working.

I clasped my mouth with my hands to hold my sobs.

Argh!

John kept his mouth shut for the rest of the ride. Immediately he arrived, I got out of the car as quickly as I could, rushing into my room.

I closed the door with a loud bang before resting my back on it... My frail body slipped... Slowly falling to the ground.

"Why!"

Why was this happening to me now? Why was everybody not able to see Lana's true colors like I do?... No, the real question is, why did Lana show her real colors to me?

She's such a good damn good actress that she could make anybody believe her lies...

"I hate you so much, Lana!" I yelled, kicking my legs.

This is so unfair!

Why was life so unfair to me?

My whole life... My entire life, I've done everything just to please my family.

All my high school days I've been the top in the class, just to make my grandfather proud. At least, I used to be until Ethan came into the picture and pushed me to be down to second.

The only thing that made my grandfather proud of me... In my mind, Ethan took it away from me. That was the main reason I began to bully him to get out of my frustration.

When Ethan left... I returned to my position, first... I tried everything I could just to make them proud.

I studied so hard that I got into one of the best universities in the country on a fucking scholarship! Do they know how hard it was for rich people to get a scholarship without cutting through corners?

My mother... The only anchor I had... The only person who loved me for who I was with no conditions, that lady... Now after finding out her real daughter left me to fend for myself.

When I got her call last night... I had thought maybe she was calling to ask about how I was doing or where I was staying, but instead, I was welcomed by her cold voice.

Since then, I had known Lana had said something terrible to her about me... But I didn't think she would believe it like this.

Me... Sleeping with men... She fucking accused me of sleeping with men for money!

"Dargh!" I yelled again my sobs getting louder.

I would make Lana pay for this. She just had to pay.

"Lana you Goddamn fucking witch..." I cried rolling myself into a ball.

I cried and cried until there were no longer tears left to cry.

I was broken and hurt and in pain...

My body trembled because I had laid on the floor for too long, the cold was beginning to affect me.

But still, I lay motionless on the floor, my body folded into a round ball, staring at absolutely nothing.

All I could think about was how wronged I felt, how everyone left me... How I was alone. Then the thought of Ethan came to my mind.

How I wished he was here. He had been the only light in my life that looked like a never-ending dark tunnel.

My throat was scratchy and I could feel a headache coming up, but I just stayed there.

My eyes suddenly began to feel heavy, my frail body shook slightly.

I shut my eyes... Slowly allowing myself to succumb to the cold hands of darkness.
