Chapter 16 Third female lead
Rachel's POV
"In your new show?" I asked confusedly.
"Yes. I'm one of the co-directors in the upcoming movie, Snow Fall Love, you can join the show..." Marina explained enthusiastically.
Snow Fall Love... My eyes widened as it dawned on me what the movie was.
It was the new upcoming movie that got everyone on edge.
"Are you serious?" I asked in a pleasant surprise.
Marina nodded her head with a smile.
"The female lead has been chosen, and so has the first supporting actress, but you can apply for the third supporting actress... I'm sure you'll get the part if you audition for it."
My lips stretched into a wide smile.
"Thank you so much, Marina."
"It's alright. What are friends for." Marina shrugged.
Why the hell did I ever listen to David when he said Marina was a bad person? Why didn't I listen to Marina when she said David was not the right person for me?
A lot of why ran through my mind as I stared at Marina.
"Chel... Chelle... Rachel!" I heard my name being yelled at. I snapped out of my thinking and glared at Marina.
"Why did you have to yell..." I whispered harshly.
"The food is here... But your mind was not. "Marina pointed at the food.
Oh... I didn't realize I was out for that long.
"Sorry." I picked up my spoon and began eating slowly.
"By the way, Rachel... The audition for the third female lead has been going on for two days now. It ends tomorrow, so I suggest that we head over there after this meal." Marina said nonchalantly, still eating her food.
My hands holding my spoon froze.
"So the auction is going on right now... And we're here eating!"
" Now look who's shouting. Relax, you're going to get the part... I am one of the co-directors after all, plus the Rachel I knew back in high school and college was a natural-born actress."
I was out of words and I stared at Marina. The way she said it so nonchalantly made me want to kiss my mind and rest, and I believe her.
"Fine... But we're leaving immediately after eating." I picked up my spoon from my plate and resumed eating, constantly glancing at Marina, who was so carefree
The girl was a big shot, one of the city's young directors, yet she was out in a restaurant without any guard like she had all the time in the world.
I respected her, completely.
Immediately after we finished eating, Marina took me to where they were having auditions for the show.
She was indeed right when she said tomorrow was going to be the last day, it was even a miracle they were yet to pick their third female lead actress
Ladies were trouping in and out of a corner... What was that...
Some of the ladies were coming out in tears... Was this audition really that hard?
"Ms. Marina... One of the directors was asking for you." A young lady walked up to Marina. She looked to be in taste.
"I'm doing something..."
I shook my head, touching Marina to get her attention.
"It's fine. You go ahead."
"What about you?" She asked me.
"I'll go over there and get my number..." I said, pointing to the corner I saw some girls walk into.
Marina gave me a slight nod before turning back to the young lady, who I was very sure was an assistant to one of the actors.
After Marina left, I walked to the counter.
"I'm here for the role of the third female lead," I said to the lady there.
She looked at me warrily, eying me from top to bottom.
What the hell is her problem? I glared at her and gave her a slight, but annoyed smile.
"My number?" I asked, reminding her of what I came here for.
"Oh... Yes..." She fumbled with the number before handing it over to me, with a manoscript of the act.
"Thank you". I gave her a short smile as I collected it and took my seat next to the others who were waiting their turn and began reading the script.
The moment I sat down, I could feel dozens of eyes on me, staring disapprovingly at me.
"Who the hell is she?" A lady wearing an enormous amount of make-up, seated beside me whispered not so discretely to the other girl close to her.
"I don't know... Probably some country bumpkin." Both girls giggled softly annoying me even more than that counter lady had.
I took a deep breath.
Rachel you can't afford to lose your temper now. I cautioned myself, as I concentrated on reading the script.
The reason they called me a country bumpkin, was quite easy to understand.
Though I was dressed in expensive clothes, it was not easy for anyone to just guess it without either being the designer of the clothes herself or looking at it carefully.
Secondly, my face was natural without makeup. I had no idea I was coming to the audition today Marina just sprang that up on me. Even if I did, there was no way I would wear as much make-up as Lady what's her name over there.
As I read the script further, I understood what the play was truly about.
It was about a young woman who fell in love with another woman's husband after they had a nightstand at a hotel.
After the woman found out the man was married, she wanted to forget about him and move on with her life, but then she discovered that she was pregnant.
She finds the man and pleads with him to take responsibility for the baby, but instead, the man gives her money to abort the young child, even though he doesn't have one of his own.
Despite the man's disapproval and her parent's anger, the lady runs away to her best friend's place and gives birth to the child there.
Years later, the man and his wife were still looking for children; his wife was rumored to be barren, and the man couldn't take it anymore. He goes out of his way and searches for the woman who he rejected before, and finally finds her in her friend's house.
He begs her to let him have a place in his son's heart, and after much pleading, the lady agrees, despite her friend's disapproval.
The lady falls in love with the man again, depsite her friends warning allows him not only into her son's life, but also into her heart. They began spending time together and slowly the man falls for her to.
His wife finds out after a few months and gets so angry at the lady who bore her husband a child, she was so mad that she hired someone to kill them both. The plan failed, and the lady's best friend was killed instead because the guys she hired were not able to distinguish between the lady and her friend.
I stopped reading.
This play was bullshit!
Why would the friend just allow the guys to kill her? Couldn't she tell them that she was not the person they were looking for?
And that friend also happens to be the third female lead I was auditioning for, can I play that part? I thought to myself.
But thinking of it, the third female lead's death was somehow pathetic, almost the way mine would have been if not for Ethan.
I shook my head to stop the thoughts of Ethan from distracting me.
"Next!" I heard the loud sound from the speakers.
A young lady came out from the auctioning room and announced.
"Ms Penelope, it's your turn." The lady said and went back inside.
Lady too much make stood up and shrugged her shoulder, taking deep breaths as she walked into the room
"Break a leg," I shouted after her as she left.
She turned to look at me and I gave her a cute smile while wiggling my eyebrows at her, a hidden wicked glint in my eyes.
