Chapter 14 He has always been rich

Ch. 14 / 155 Apr 28, 2026

Rachel's POV

"Slow down...not to many questions." A soft giggle escaped from my lips.

"I'm just worried about you, I heard about you and David..."

Wow, news really does travel fast.

"I'm good, really. In fact that's one of the reasons I'm calling you. I need you to do something for me." I said my voice turning serious.

"Anything, just name it"

"Do you know if there are any upcoming film auditions? I want to go back to acting."

The next thing I heard was a delighted scream from Marina. I had to move the phone further away from my face to protect my ear drums.

"I can't believe your finally going back to acting... You know what, yes! There are upcoming auctions, and I can bet they love for you to show up."

"Then it's settled. Send the address, time and place to this number. We'll met up there and catch up."

"That we most definitely would do. I need to hear every about your divorce... That man had to be crazy for letting you go."

"Ok, bye." I ended the call.

That was Marina. One of my few friends I still talk to after school days.

She and Lana were my bestest of friends, but with Lana always being around, she became my best friend.

Marina was an actress, a renowned one at that. Ever since school days, The three of us, Lana, Marina and I would join school plays and ever drama that would take us.

We all studied it in college, and I came out the best in the class. Lana and Marina went on to make a living with it, while I married David right after college.

Marina was now a movie director, while Lana an actress... Maybe one to good to be able to full my family that she even as much as care for me.

I also wanted to become an actress, but I had to lock up my dream because of my other dream of marrying the man I love... Well loved.

I was so happy when we finally got married because I was foolishly, and naively in love with him.

On our wedding night when he didn't show up, I believed his dumb excuse of being stuck at an emergency meeting... Or when he didn't touch me any of the few times he was at home... He always gave the stupid excuse that he was tired from work.

How could I have been so stupid? So naive?

He was the one who took my virginity when I was 16, and since then, we have always done it anytime and anywhere.

At least, that was what I've always told everyone, but only Marina knew the truth.

Immediately after we got married...

He changed. He became a different man entirely. Always going out on business trips, now that I'm thinking about it, he was probably with Lana those times.

I let out a long sigh.

I was no longer married, no longer bounded by the invisible chains of marriage, now my dream of becoming an actress could actually come back to light.

"Thank you." I returned Luke's phone and gave him a kind smile.

Ever since I came to this house, I've been saying thank you way more than usual. Maybe it was because I felt like I was more or less a stranger in this huge house and I owed them.

I let my leg take me around the house, filling myself with the wonders it held.

Ethan's house was huge. Way bigger than my David's which was really big.

He had large sized pool, a beautiful garden and other facilities outside. While inside... He and a bowling court, a mini-cinema house and even an instrument room.

Like who keeps an entire room just for instruments? Well Ethan.

I sat beside the grand piano in the middle of the room.

"Ms Rachel... There you are, I've been looking all over for you." Victoria said catching her breath. From the look of things she really have been looking for me.

"I just wanted to explore the house. Does Ethan play the piano?"

The old lady glanced at the piano.

"Well, Sir Wright indeed knows how to play, but it's been long since I've heard him play the instrument. But he just returned after a very long time, I'm hoping for the best"

I furrowed my brows.

Just returned? Where did he go?

It was then I realized that I knew too little about Ethan, apart from the fact that he went to the same school as I did, and always wore those huge glasses, I knew nothing else about him.

"Victoria... I don't mean to intrude into Ethan's life... But I just have to ask, how well do you know Ethan?"

"I've know him since he was a boy, Ms Rachel... A rather cute one"

Since he was a boy? My brows wrinkled I'm confusion.

How could she have known him since he was a boy? The Ethan I knew back at high school couldn't even afford his school fess on time, not to talk of all of these.

"I don't understand. You see I've known Ethan before, we went to the same school. But I could swear he was not this rich..." In fact he I wasn't the only one who bullied him because of his background. I left the rest of the sentence untold.

If I told Victoria how Ethan and I really met, she might think different of me.

Victoria chuckled slightly.

"I'm sorry Ms Rachel... Oh that, that was a long time ago."

Wait, she knew that he was poor once?

I sat up properly to face her.

"Do you by chance know how he got rich?" I asked in a whisper.

"Wealth this much..." I pointed around "... Can't be acquired in just a few years...Right?"

I could tell Victoria understood where I was heading to cause she shifted closer towards me.

"Mr Wright has always been rich."

What!

"But how could..."

"If you wish to know more about Mr Wright, you can ask him yourself Ms Rachel. He's in the best situation to explain everything to you."

Ethan has always been rich?

But what about high school?

Why was he always dressed so shabbily? Could someone explain what is happening!

"Oh... Least I forget, I called you mainly to inform you that lunch is served, also to ask how you are feeling right now, and to tell you that Mr Wright got you a new phone and told me to give it to you after you've woken up."

Ethan got me a new phone? A smile came to my lips.

My stomach grumbled to remind me of how hungry I was. I had nothing to eat since morning!

"The fever has gone down, and the headache disappeared after I woke up this morning." I replied the kind woman.

She nodded her head.

"That's good, now about lunch?"

"Yes. I'm indeed incredibly famished. But is there nothing you can tell me about Ethan?" I said giving her my brightest pleading smile.

"I'm sorry, Ms Rachel, but it's best if Sir Wright is the one to tell you about himself and not me."

My shoulders slumped as Victoria dashed my remaining hopes of getting more knowledge about Ethan from her.

"But I can tell you one thing though..." She said again.

My hopes went back up as I stared at her.

"Mr Wright cares for you, deeply."

Really... That's all you have to say?

I glared at Victoria in annoyance.

"I'm going to eat."

Ethan was hiding something from me, something huge... And I am determined to find out.
