Chapter 37 She's happy with me

Ethan's POV

I searched around the gala frantically, looking for only one face. The face of the girl that have been clouding my thoughts, even my dreams for the past few weeks. My fake girlfriend who I was so madly in love with, Rachel.

" Are you sure she's here?" I asked Mark when I saw him coming back from discussing with Frederick Walker, the host of this event.

" Yes boss. I stylishly asked the Old Walker and he told me that he invited all the main leads of Snow Fall Love go this event". Mark answered reassuring me.

I took deep breaths to calm my raging nerves. I had to get my mind of Rachel, even if it was just for a little bit.

" What about the Old man, how is he? "

"Oh, my grandfather is fine. Just the usual complains of why I should come back to the family business and all, nothing much". Mark said with a shrug and I shook my head at him.

Mark Walker the prodigal son of the Walker family and who also happens to be Fredrick Walkers o ky grandson, and my assistant.

I had advised him several times to go back to his family but refuses adamantly saying, that this was what he wanted to do.

I had chosen not to say anything about the matter anymore, it was Mark's life. All I hoped was stbat oneday he would tell me the reason he refuses to go back to his family.

" How is your old man? I hope you didn't give him a heart attack this time". I teased making Mark roll his eyes.

The last time he spoke to his grandfather, the old man was rushed to the hospital.

" As you can see he's still breathing well, not only that he's on his feet". He pointed towards his grandfather and I was about to glancing towards his direction when my eyes caught the woman I had been hoping to see, standing close to another woman who I guess would be Marina, and... David!

I narrowed my eyes and clenched my hands to a fist matching towards them.

"Boss... Hey, wait up". I heard Mark yell after me, but was too mad at the moment to care.

"You asked what I was doing here, and here it is. I want to make you an offer, I'll take you back if you kneel in front of everyone here and beg me". I heard David say when I right behind Rachel and Marina.

I'll be damned if I let Rachel do something as stupid as that.

" What if she doesn't want you back?" I asked making my presence known to the trio.

Rachel's back tensed and she turned back to face me, the surprise evident in her eyes.

"Ethan?".

"Who the hell are you?". David glared at me raising his voice.

A side of my lips hooked up in a smirk, I just got the most amazing idea.

With one hand I drew Rachel close to me, and wrapped my second hand around her waist.

" I asked, what if she doesn't want you back?" I repeated with a shrug resting my face on Rachel's shoulder.

Rachel tensed body slowly relaxed to my embrace as she played along with my act smirking at David.

"What is this? Huh... What are you playing at Rachel? "

"What do you mean?" Rachel asked innocently blinking her eyes at David.

Marina who was by standing by Rachel, held her hands on her mouth trying to hold her laughter.

"Who is this guy holding you waist? Don't tell me you hired someone to play your boyfriend to get me jealous?" He asked with a proud tone, as he crossed his hands on his chest.

Rachel snorted, then she chuckled.

"What's going on here? " A young girl walked up to David and held his shoulder lovingly, before glaring at Rachel.

That must be Lana.

I haven't seen her in over four years, she looked different. No more the kind, meek and harmless girl that followed Rachel everywhere then

" Did you forget Rachel? You and David are divorced, or are you just begging for him to take you back? "

" Oh please, the world doesn't revolve around you and David. Rachel moved on, quite quickly actually as you can see". Marina said rolling her eyes before gesturing towards me.

" This is just a ruse..." David started to deny but Rachel interrupted him with her laughter.

"Do you think we're still in highschool? I was stupid and naive then, but you really think I'll do such a stupid thing again. Why the hell would you think I'd want you back when I've got him? " She asked as if stating the obvious as she pointed at me.

My heart skipped a beat as soon as I heard that. She sounded so genuine that for a second I forgot this was all an act to her.

"Oh, pardon me, I forgot to introduce you guys. David, Lana, Marina, this is Ethan... My boyfriend ". She smiled at me and I returned it with one of my own.

She looked towards Mark, her eyes asking who he was. I gave her a reassuring nod and a smile.

I'd have to introduce Mark to her later.

" Babe..."

My heart skipped another beat as her smooth voice flowed into my ears. The word came out of her mouth so naturally.

" ...This is Marina, my best friend... " She pointed towards the lady by her side who gave me an exciting smile.

" And over here we have, my cheating ex husband, and my gold-digging bitch of a sister ".

Her voice held so much spite towards them.

"You're unbelievable!" David exclaimed, his voice laced with indignation.

"We've been apart for less than two months, and you're already with someone else? How can I be certain you weren't involved with him while we were still together?"

Rachel was enraged. Marina gasped in shock.

"How dare you! After everything you and Lana put me through, you have the guts to question my integrity? "

Marina looked at David, her tone in disbelief.

" This guy is indeed shameless... "

David's finger wagged accusingly at Marina as he snarled

"Mind your own business, Marina. I wasn't addressing you."

Undaunted, Marina stepped closer, her eyes flashing with defiance. "I'll say whatever I please. Shameless men like you don't deserve an ounce of respect."

I couldn't help but smile, impressed by Marina's sharp wit and unwavering confidence.

"You..."

David's chest heaved with rage as he raised his hand to strike Marina. Marina, caught off guard, closed her eyes and braced for impact.

But Mark, standing behind me, reacted swiftly, grabbing David's hand roughly and preventing the blow.

"How dare you try to hit a woman?" Mark growled, his voice fierce with anger. He forced David's hand back down, his eyes blazing with a fierce intensity.

David glared at Mark, seemingly eager to start a fight, but Mark stood his ground, shielding Marina with his body.

I watched the scene unfold, unfazed, knowing that Mark had the situation under control. We had served together in the military, and Mark was my second-in-command. I had never seen him so angry before, but I had no doubt that he would emerge victorious if a fight broke out.

Rachel, however, seemed determined to take matters into her own hands. She struggled free from my grasp and marched towards David, passing Mark in the process.

What is she doing?

"You disgust me" She spat at David.

Before I could react, she raised her hands and slapped David across the face.

"What the...!" I trailed off, stunned by her bold move.
