Chapter 46 What gave the lie away

Rachel's POV

" Sister? " Marina blinked giving me an incredulous look. "For heaven's sake I didn't even know the guy still existed until you brought him up!" She sighed throwing her hands in the air.

I leaned back on the bed pouting my lips.

" I think Olivia likes him"

"What?" Marina asked with a huff standing up from the bed. " I can't believe all the things I've missed". She said in a disbelief tone as she stood up from the bed and pacing.

"Marina what are you doing?" I just had to ask after she had gone left and right almost five times.

Then she stooped, snapping her fingers at me, her eyes lit up. "Now it all makes sense"

I furrowed my eyebrows, staring at her as if she had just lost it.

Well, she was acting like someone who was out of it... But in her defense this was too much to take in, in just one day.

Marina kept looking at me as if she wanted to say more, but was waiting for me. " Come on, it's your cue to ask what makes sense". She said after a while when she noticed I wasn't getting it.

Why don't she she just tell me?

Whatever... " Marina, what makes sense?" I asked in my most bored voice.

" Olivia. Ever since that day at the mall... You know the day you mentioned Ethan to her as your savior, I've noticed that she became hostile towards you. It could be because she already knew who the Ethan you were talking about was, and was mad at you taking him away from her!"

I blinked after she was done.

That was what she wanted to tell me? I've already figured everything out earlier today. Marina was looking at me with such an expression that I couldn't bear to tell her that I already know, so I forced a shocked smile on my lips.

" Really? I've never thought of it that way " I said with a shock expression trying to act convincing, and she believed it because she nodded her head.

God... How did this girl become a director? Couldn't she guess that I was acting? Or maybe I'm just a good actress.

" That must be the reason why she poured a full glass of wine on you... " Marina completed with a hand on her chin as if she was in deep thought.

I kept the shock smile on my face as I nodded. "You could be right, because I've noticed Olivia's actions too".

She let out a sigh, taking a seat on the coach closet to me. " Yeah... Yeah, then why are you acting like you don't know? " Marina suddenly said.

I looked at her stunned. So she knew I was acting all this time?

" Why are you looking at me like that, you know I'm a director, one of the youngest directors back in the country, do you think I won't know when someone is lying to me? "

I pressed my lips together while looking at her. Of course she would know, she was Marina.

" What gave the lie away? "

" When you said you never thought of it that way... But then just now you said you've noticed Olivia harshness towards you. The Rachel I know would not be that dumb to notice the Olivia's change and then put it past her. " Marina said curtly.

" And you let me keep fooling myself? I just didn't want you to feel bad that I knew".

" It's alright... " She nudged my hand assuring. "So tell me, what else do you know? "

"Well... I know Olivia hates me, that's for sure. Oh yeah, she's Hannah's best friend... ".

" Hannah? Which Hannah? Hannah Wright?"Marina interrupted.

" Yes her, Jake's mother. " I nodded in agreement.

Marina scoffed shaking her head.

" What is it? "

" Now it all seems obvious. I've directed some of Jake's movies, but Hannah almost never tags along, she may have heard about you from her brother and wants to meet you, or she wants you break you both up because she knows Olivia likes him too".

My eyes widened, this time in real surprise.

I really never thought of it that way.

But the first time Hannah and I met, she was nice... Well a bit crazy, but nice.

But it could all be a facade just to get me to trust her and then, she'll just... Dargh Rachel. You're thinking too much, too far.

" Marina let's just stop this, it's already late and I really want to sleep". I groaned standing up from Marina's bed and walking towards mine.

"Ok... But you have to be vigilant, most especially around Olivia. I believe she can do more than just pour wine on you... Talking about that, you need to get that dress off so we try to get the stain off tomorrow, that goodness it's black ". Marina said with a yawn as she got ready to sleep.

" Are you going to sleep in that dress? " I asked as Marina pulled the blanket over her body.

She was still wearing the sexy body hugging dress, won't it be hard to sleep in that?

"Oh, yeah". She murmured getting off the bed. Then she outrightly stripped out of the dress and tossed it on her couch.

"Marina!"

"What? Look, I'm really tired and exhausted, as you said today has been a long day for the both of us and I just got the shock of my life, so please let that rest there..." She pointed at the dress on the couch.

" I'll deal with it tomorrow ".

I shook my head at Marina before walking to the bathroom to take care of the stain. I came out after a few minutes all dressed in my night robe ready to sleep when my phone dinged.

I picked it up to see a message from Ethan.

' Goodnight '

A smile found its way to my lips. I was about to text back when I saw another one.

' Mark asked me to tell you to tell Marina good night for him '

I chuckled at the message.

' Why can't he do it by himself ' I texted back sitting on my bed.

' He says he didn't get her number. You're still awake? '

I rolled my eyes at his question.

Of course I was awake, did he think he was texting a sleeping person?

'Hey are you still awake? ' He texted again after I didn't answer his last one.

' Yes, but not for long. I'm about to go to sleep ' I texted back picking my legs from the floor and lying on back.

'Okay... Goodnight '

' Goodnight '. I turned off my phone, dropping it on the nearest table.

"Mark says goodnight". I said to Marina but got replied with a soft snore.

How was she able to sleep so quickly after everything that happened with David? I wondered turning off the lights.
