Sweet News Turn Sour

"Time for better Media attention. Better than the one we have here," Mrs Haward said reading the news on the amazing newly opened hotel which appears to be doing so well.

The very next day, Julia got ready and left for the hotel for her interview. She arrived at the hotel premises 30 minutes earlier and was received by the head waiter. He led her into a room where he offered her a seat. The interview went well and he offered Julia the job on the spot.

"You can start tomorrow," the head waiter announced to her and Julia smiled. "I will have everything you need ready by then," he added and Julia thanked him before exiting the room as the man walked her towards the main exit of the hotel.

That was the statement she had been waiting to hear for a long time. Even though it didn't come with the kind of job she had hoped for it made her smile. She thanked the man again and exited the building.

Meanwhile, on the 10th floor, Jason had watched the entire interview of Julia inside his office, on the monitor. He had zoomed in and was watching her but not listening to the ongoing interview. He focused his attention on his work once Julia exited the building.

On the ground floor, the head waiter after the interview went to see Peter and informed him of Julia's performance and her employment. Peter was happy with it and decided he would tell Jason later. The rest of the day continued with more customers coming to the hotel.

Across the street, directly opposite the hotel, a man was sitting in his car parked in front of the coffee shop sipping on a cup of coffee and watching the hotel. His phone rang and he quickly answered it, seeing the caller's ID.

"Sir, there is news about going out. It's meant to put Jason out there in a bad way," the caller said.

"Who is behind it?" the man asked.

"Mrs Haward, Jason's stepmother," replied the caller.

"Change the story and let it go out," the man instructed and the call ended.

He dialled Dr Andesh's contact and waited for the call to connect.

"I am going in. I will deliver as promised," the man said and disconnected the call.

He got out of the car and entered the Hotel. At the reception, he requested to meet the manager and he was directed to Peter's office.

"Hello," the man greeted and Peter offered him a seat.

"I am a philanthropist from the Wellington family. The Wellington's are interested in investing in this hotel and I am here to discuss that," the man said and gave him his card.

Peter knows about the Wellingtons and for them to choose your business as a business to invest in, you must be very lucky. Peter was super excited and without giving it much thought, he led the man to Jason's office.

At Jason's office, the three gentlemen had a conversation about business and Wellington's interest in investing in the hotel by completing the remaining floors and making the hotel one of the best-running hotels.

"This is great but what is in it for you?" asked Jason knowing how the rich and powerful do business.

On the surface, their proposal always looks like a great idea but there is always the other side of the coin which could be good or bad.

"The location is good so we want to add it to the hotels we book for our guests when we organize our world CEO conferences," the man said.

Jason does know about the CEO conferences which are organized annually. The best hotels are chosen for the dignitaries but Jason was still not convinced yet about the man's motive. A waiter walked in with a tray of cocktail drinks. The man smiled as the tall glass of drinks with crazy straws was placed on the table.

"Nice straw," the man complimented with a smile.

They continued their discussion on the man's proposal as they sipped their drinks. Jason ended the whole conversation with a promise to provide feedback at the end of the week. All the gentlemen got up from their seats and the man knocked Jason's straw over with his hand making it fall to the ground.

"Sorry about that," the man said and bent over, picked it up and quickly slipped it down his wrist into a small tube-looking cutter which he used to cut the end of the straw used by Jason slipping it back into his sleeves.

"Don't worry, it will be cleaned up," Jason said seeing the man picking the straw from the floor.

"Okay," the man said leaving what was left of the straw on the floor as they exited the building.

Inside his car, he pulled the tube with the cutter and opened it placing the piece of straw he had cut into a container. He sent a message to Dr Andesh, informing her of his success before leaving the place.

Back at the apartment, Mrs Haward was pacing up and down her room waiting for the discrediting news on Jason to be posted. She kept on checking her social media platforms for it but nothing had been posted.

"What is taking them so long?' she asked furiously and was about to call her contact when a notification popped up on her screen with a title which read; 'All about Paradise Hotel'.

She quickly tapped on it to read more even though she already knew the content. She smiled ear to ear as she started reading the details and the smile gradually vanished from her face.

Paradise Hotel is only four months old but appears to be doing much better than some of the existing hotels. I am sure everyone is very curious about how the Hotel is doing so well. Well, I believe a hotel which has the best of everything is bound to attract more people. Their food is exceptional and they have a perfect system for booking spaces for programs. It is a hotel where you are very sure you get value for your money.

"No, no, no, that is not what I sent to be posted. What is happening?" Mrs Haward murmured and frowned checking other sites and realising they were all saying positive things about the hotel. She quickly dialled her contact and brought the phone to her ears.

"Hello what is happening this is not what we discussed," Mrs Haward said angrily.

"I am not sure what happened. This not what I posted; believe me, I am not sure what happened," replied the person on the other end of the call.

"Well, do something about it and do it now. I want that hotel destroyed alongside Jason," Mrs Haward said and ended the call.

"Mum, why are you bent on destroying Jason? He left this house the moment he found out he was adopted. He didn't take anything with him. You used all your contacts to make his life a living hell. He left for Croydon; you were still not happy. You sent James to pick up Julia, you lied to the poor girl and separated the two. Is it not enough? When will you be satisfied? When he is no more? What evil did he commit?" questioned Mirenda.

"Idiot, I do this for you and your brother. If I don't you will all end up on the street with nothing," Mrs Haward said.

"What do you mean? Our father left something for all of us and it will be good to be content with that and stop going after Jason," Mirenda said with a frown.

Mrs Haward laughed hysterically and looked at Mirenda who looked very surprised.

"You think you are a Haward? Then I am sorry. You are not. I married into the Haward family to have a better life which my boyfriend could not provide me with. I got used to my new life. One day I went out with my friends and got drunk and slept with a disgusting man in one of the private rooms. I regretted it in the morning. I found out a couple of days later, I was pregnant with you but before I could terminate the pregnancy, my husband found out. He was so excited I couldn't go through with my plan as he was everywhere treating me like I was an egg," Mrs Haward narrated making a face of disgust.

"So yes, I don't like you because you are a product of some ugly lazy poor person from a one-night stand. I thought all was well until he found out you were not his child and decided to throw us out on the street. You are not just a product of an ugly lazy poor person but also bad luck," Mrs Haward yelled in her face.

"Just when I thought I could get a better life for you and James, Jason decided to drive a stick through my dream by bringing that criminal partner of his," Mrs Haward paused and chuckled. "Do you know what Jason would do if he finds out?" she said looking at tearful Mirenda in the eye.

"You will have no roof over your head, " Mrs Haward yelled.

"So now you know why I do what I do? Just so your silly behind will have a place to stay. So next time you want to question my actions, ask yourself one question silly girl, do you want to stay on the street?" Mrs Haward said and pushed Mirenda backwards almost making her fall.

Mirenda placed her hand on the table behind her to balance herself so she didn't fall. With her heart shattered into a million pieces by the words of the woman she called mother she could no longer hold her tears back. She ran out of the room and exited the living room running down the stairs.

Mrs Haward, called her contact again completely ignoring Mirenda and continued with the conversation on why the news she sent was still not out there.

Meanwhile, Mirenda went out of the building and before the security man could reach her she was out of the gate and running down the street. The security man followed her but before he could get to her, she was in the middle of the road and a truck was heading in her direction.

"Ms Mirenda...." the security man yelled
