The Billionaire's Toy

chapter Seventy

Ch. 70 / 99 Dec 27, 2025

We exchanged goodbyes and I headed back to the house to sleep some more since I took the day off.

My heart warmed knowing that I would finally be at peace when Vixen was done with Killian, although a part of me wondered if I was making the right choice.

Well, the deed has been done already. There was nothing I could do about it. I got to the house and drove straight for the bed to sleep.

I woke up later in the evening and the first thing I did was to check my phone for any calls.

Nothing, none from Vixen or Killian.

My brows furrowed and I kept wondering if there had been some sort of mishap or if I was just imagining things.

Trying to burn time, I decided to cook dinner while I waited for Killian to return, maybe when I saw him, I would know if Vixen succeeded or not.

I went into the kitchen and made his favorite, mac and cheese. For a scary man, he loved the simple dishes.

I hummed as I prepared it while glancing at my phone now and then willing the phone to ring.

It didn't.

I did other things to occupy my time while I waited and still nothing.

By eight, Killian's car drove in and I almost stubbed my toe trying to get to him.

He came into the house looking upset, his perfectly styled hair looked like he had been running his hands through it all day.

His eyes looked troubled and his form had aggression rolling off of it.

"Hey," he said when he saw me standing in the middle of the living room.

"Hey," I walked up to him and kissed him. He grabbed me by my waist and deepened the kiss so that I was flush against him.

"Have you been waiting for me?" he asked when he released me.

I nodded, "I made dinner. Your favorite."

A smile lit up his face and my heart melted into a puddle. The tension on his body from earlier melted a little.

"Let me go take a shower," he said as he went into the bedroom.

I quickly picked up my phone and called Vixen but her phone kept going to voicemail, I left messages in her inbox asking her to call me when she could.

I was so curious that it was making me restless.

I didn't smell any perfume when I hugged him earlier so that could only mean that Vixen wasn't successful and she could be lying in a ditch somewhere.

"Oh God, what have I done?" I asked myself as I paced in the living room.

Killian came out freshly showered and I dished his food as we sat down.

"So, how was your day?" I asked.

He raised a brow in question but I smiled at him. I was striking up a conversation with him.

I needed to know if something happened today but I can't come out directly and ask him if Vixen saw him or if he killed her.

That would cause a lot of problems and things were kind of good between us right now and I don't want to ruin it.

"You know the usual, dealing with investors and buried to my neck with workload because of the trip I took," he said.

"Nobody helped you with that?" I asked.

He shook his head as he took a second serving, a gentle smile on his face as he ate the food.

A smile came onto my face as well as I watched him, my heart beating fast when I realized this is what being married to him would look like.

"Why do you ask?"

I shrugged, "I can't ask about your day?"

He dropped his fork and looked at me curiously, "You never ask about my day so why start now?"

I stared at him for a while, "that sounds harsh."

He reached out to take my hand in his, squeezing it for comfort.

"It's how it is. I didn't say I don't like it."

I smiled at him and he smiled back.

We talked for a bit after that but he refused to mention anything about Vixen causing my worry to intensify.

I thought having sex would make him loosen up but he closed the door on it when he brushed me aside softly saying he was exhausted.

Killian went to bed and I was left to do the dishes.

I climbed into bed with him and spent the whole night staring at the ceiling with worry while he slept soundly beside me.

I don't know when I woke up but Killian was gone and I was left alone once again.

I decided that I couldn't let it eat me up and decided to go look for Vixen, maybe she has been too busy to keep up with our end of the deal.

I took a quick shower and went in search of Vixen in the club, I got there and everything looked different.

Maybe because it was daytime and everybody was busy, I went straight to the bar and ordered a drink.

The bartender placed the drink in front of me.

"Anything else I can help you with?" he asked.

I nodded, "Yes, I am looking for Vixen."

The bartender looked around worriedly, "She has not been here and nobody knows where she is." he said.

"Do you know where I can find her?"

"She mostly sleeps here but I have her address just in case."

"Thank you," I took the slip of paper he slid to me and put it in my handbag.

My heart sank when the words kept coming back to me, nobody knew where she was.

I managed my drink and went in search of her apartment, it was easy to find.

She wasn't there either, nobody had seen her.

I dialed her number again but it went straight to voicemail, this time my voice was frantic when I told her to call me back.

I don't know if it was the alcohol but I found myself headed to Killian's office to confront him.

I used his private elevator and got into his office, I checked on Alice but she wasn't there to give me the usual hell.

I shook my head, maybe she went on a coffee run.

I knocked and entered when his voice gave the permission.

The smile on his face took my breath away when he saw me.

"Catalina, what are you doing here?" he asked.

I searched for any sign that he may be angry but he was relaxed, looking at me with a lazy smile.

"I came to see you."

He stood up and took three strides to me, his hand circled my neck and he pulled me closer to give me a deep kiss.

I accepted it, the reason why I came down here forgotten.

"I am glad you are here. Did you miss me?" he asked.

It was still the alcohol talking because I nodded and pulled him in for another kiss.

He led me to the couch and broke the kiss off, his eyes shining as he stared at me.

I pointed at the door behind me, "Oh that reminds me. Alice wasn't at her usual desk."

Killian shrugged, "Oh I fired her."
