My hand was on my mouth in shock, to prevent me from screaming and waking Killian.
I went back to bed after dropping his laptop where I saw it, he would be mad if he found out I invaded his privacy.
I had no idea what to do, Vixen had been kidnapped. She was kidnapped and carried out of the club like she weighed nothing.
It was all my fault, it was all my fault she was in this mess.
Sleep didn't come easy, I tossed and turned all night despite trying so hard to get some sleep.
I padded to the kitchen when I realized sleep wasn't coming, I made myself a cup of coffee and sat there staring at nothing.
When morning came, I had no idea because my mind was clouded with thoughts of Killian and Vixen, and my head filled with enough coffee to fill a village.
I had to go to the police and report this, but it was much more complicated than this.
My face brightened when I heard Killian enter the kitchen, his sweatpants hanging low on my hips.
My mouth watered but I calmed myself down, I had no idea where we stood after our fight yesterday.
"Hey," I greeted.
He stopped, giving me a silent nod, and poured himself a cup of coffee. I shrank back into myself as he ignored me.
I guess I deserved that.
He inhaled his coffee before meeting my eyes, he gave me a little smile and I relaxed. He didn't look angry.
"Hey," he said.
I stood and approached him, unsure of what I was going to say.
"Listen, about last night..."
"I am sorry,"
We both said at the same time, I giggled and waited for him to speak.
He gestured for me to go on, " Go ahead,"
I nodded, "I am sorry I lied to you." I left it at that.
He looked like he wanted to hear more but I didn't give him a chance.
"Well, I guess that's it. You are going to work with me today."
"Sure, okay. You can drop me off on your way." I said.
Killian shook his head making me confused, "No, I meant you are going to be in my office. Where I can see you. You can work as Alice's replacement till I find someone new." he said.
I stared at him in disbelief, "You are keeping me on a leash?"
My tone carried the shock that I felt hearing the words come out of his mouth.
"Call it whatever you want, I am going to keep an eye on you." he shrugged.
My shoulders slumped, I knew when I was defeated. How the hell am I supposed to go to the police?
I glared at Killian as he smiled cheekily into the cup.
I refused to speak to him after that, I showered and dressed but had no words for him. Since he decided to play smart, I guess two could play that game.
The ride to work was silent as usual and he only spoke to me when we got to the office.
"There is no need to tell you what to do. You know this job like the back of your hand," he ordered.
I glared at him but said nothing.
He took that as an answer and went to his office, I had just placed my bag on my desk when the phone rang.
I picked it up, "Mr. Black's office."
"I forgot to tell you that you would be working with me in my office. Bring your things here." Killian said.
My frown deepened, and I stuck my tongue at the glass door separating us. The urge to hurl something heavy at him was too strong.
"Okay," I answered.
I grabbed my files and bag. He was sitting in his chair with that smug smile on his face.
I said nothing and created a little workspace for myself.
"Just like old times," he grinned.
I ignored him and focused on work. It was a good thing Alice was a good worker. I didn't have any trouble catching up.
Killian took me to all his meetings, not letting me be alone. I couldn't make a phone call, no moment of privacy whatsoever.
My chance came when he excused himself to use the bathroom. I felt like I could breathe again.
I stepped into my office and sighed. My head shot up when a knock came. The delivery man's presence made me nervous.
He gave me the letter and I took a deep breath as I stared at it, lying on my desk. My heartbeat increased when I imagined the words written on it this time.
I grabbed the letter and opened it, the words made me wince but I was a sucker for punishment because I read it line by line.
My body broke out in cold sweat when my imagination betrayed me by painting the images of these descriptions in my head.
I was so engrossed in reading the letter that I didn't feel the presence behind me.
A hand snatched the letter from my hands, I whirled around to yell at the person when my words died in my throat.
Killian had the letter in his hands and from the look on his face, he looked murderous. He stopped reading and stared at me in shock.
He shook his head and walked into his office, I shut the door behind me.
"Killian,"
"What's this?" he waved the paper in my face.
I snatched the paper from him, folded it, and tucked it into my pants. His eyes followed the motion and his lips thinned with anger.
"Don't even think of lying to me." his voice boomed.
"We are in the office, keep your voice down," I yelled back.
He took a step back and grabbed his jacket, my bags, and keys. He dragged me out of his office with everyone looking.
"What's going on?" I asked as I struggled to keep up with his angry strides.
"Killian, slow down." I pleaded but he paid me no attention.
He got to the car and pointed to the passenger seat, "Get in," he said.
I did as he said and flinched when he slammed the door. We were leaving the office in the middle of the day.
I was in it for real this time.
Just like yesterday, he led me into the living room with that murderous look on his face.
"When did you start receiving these death threats?" he asked.
I wanted to deflect as usual but something on his face told me he wouldn't appreciate that.
"The day of your business dinner?"
A look of realization crossed his face when he connected the dots, "So that's why you screamed, it was no bug." he muttered.
I nodded even when he wasn't looking at me.
"What's going on, Catalina? And don't even think of lying to me," he warned.
I took a seat, afraid my legs would give out from being caught.
"The day we found Zack tied up in the basement. I told Vixen to set you up because I was afraid you would kill me after you were done with me. She agreed to seduce you but I didn't hear from her."
His murderous look told me to leave nothing out, "I received the first letter which I tore up because I didn't want it to bother me. Then yesterday, one came with your gift. I went to the club because someone said Vixen was seen there."
I wriggled my fingers nervously as he digested the information.
"A letter came with my gift?" he asked.
I nodded.
Killian chuckled, "I am going to ignore the fact that you wanted another woman to seduce me."
"It was a good idea at the time." I defended.
"Nothing about this is a good idea. Why didn't you tell me about the threats?" he yelled.
I flinched from his tone, he was angry. But he said nothing about Vixen being kidnapped. It was like he didn't care.
"I had no choice!" I yelled back.
"No choice? You had every choice to tell me that someone was threatening your safety! Do you even think before you make decisions? Like going to a strange club with no form of protection?"
His voice made me feel small, he was making me feel like a naughty child.
"Stop yelling at me!" I snapped.
"Why not? Have you behaved well?" he asked.
"Don't you care about Vixen?" I asked instead.
Killian chuckled coldly, "Why should I care? She means nothing to me. But it looks like she means something to you more than I do because why does she matter right now?"
"That's not what it is."
"Then what it. Vixen this and that. You are being threatened and you felt I shouldn't know?" he yelled.
He took a step closer to me, the veins on his neck strained from anger.
"Stop yelling at me, I am not a child."
"You are behaving like one so I will treat you like one."
"On please, someone might think you care this much because you love me." I rolled my eyes.
Killian said nothing, I saw his jaw clench before his lips came crashing down on mine.
