The Billionaire's Toy

chapter Ninety-eight

Ch. 98 / 99 Dec 27, 2025

I crept through the dimly lit room, my heart pounding with each step.

Zach's smug grin told me he expected this. "You thought you were one step ahead," he chuckled, "but I knew your plan all along."

My eyes widened in disbelief. How could he have known?

Panic set in as I fumbled through the files, trying to salvage control of the situation. "You can't escape this," I stammered, holding my phone tightly. "I've called the police."

His laughter echoed, unnerving in the confined space. "Ah, Catalina, you underestimate me. The signals are jammed; they won't be coming. You're trapped."

Dread washed over me, realization sinking in. I had walked right into his trap.

The room felt suffocating as I searched for an escape route.

In a desperate attempt, I lunged towards the door, but he was quicker, blocking my path with an infuriating smirk.

A struggle ensued, a chaotic dance of wills. His grip tightened as I fought to break free. "You always thought you could outsmart me," he hissed. "But you were playing right into my hands."

I gritted my teeth, summoning strength I didn't know I had. With a sudden surge, I managed to break away, stumbling backward.

My mind raced, searching for a way to turn the tables. The window, a small glimmer of hope, beckoned from across the room.

Zach advanced, undeterred. "You can't escape fate, Catalina. This is where your little game ends."

Darkness clung to the deserted office as I clutched the files tightly to my chest, victory within reach.

The weight of evidence against Zach pressed on me like a tangible force, and with cautious steps, I made my way toward the window.

Suddenly, the air shifted, a foreboding warning that something was amiss.

Before I could react, a force propelled me forward, and the world blurred as I tumbled down the unforgiving stairs.

Pain seared through my body, and the files scattered like leaves in the wind.

Gasping for air, I tried to make sense of the chaos.

Zach loomed above me, a sinister silhouette against the dim light.

The satisfaction in his eyes twisted my stomach. This wasn't just about the files; it was personal.

I stumbled to my feet, determination replacing the shock, but before I could escape, he lunged at me.

His hands closed around my throat, cutting off my air supply. Panic set in as I fought against the relentless grip.

The edges of my vision darkened, a suffocating blackness threatening to consume me. It was a battle for breath, for survival.

As consciousness slipped away, a sudden force tore Zach away from me. The pressure on my throat released, and I gasped for precious air.

My vision cleared just in time to witness a furious whirlwind, Killian. His fists rained down on Zach, a torrent of retribution for the torment he had caused.

I lay on the cold floor, breathless and battered, as Killian's rage manifested in each powerful blow.

Zach, who had been so confident moments ago, now crumpled under Killian's assault.

The tables had turned, and the hunter had become the hunted.

Fear flickered in Zach's eyes as he pleaded for mercy, a stark contrast to the malice that had defined him.

Killian's voice cut through the chaos, a growl of anger and frustration. "You thought you could get away with this, Zach? You thought you could hurt her and walk away?" His words were punctuated by the sickening thud of fists meeting flesh.

I struggled to rise, pain coursing through my body, but the unfolding scene held me in a grim fascination.

As Killian's fists continued their merciless assault, a chilling question surfaced in my mind. How far was he willing to go?

The line between justice and vengeance blurred, and I found myself torn between gratitude for the rescue and growing unease at the intensity of Killian's rage.

Finally, as if reaching a breaking point, Killian stepped back, leaving Zach battered and broken on the cold floor.

The air hung heavy with the aftermath of violence. Zach, now a defeated figure, struggled to comprehend the swift turn of events.

Killian turned towards me, his expression a mix of concern and determination. "Are you okay?" he asked, his voice gentler than the storm that had just passed.

I nodded, and he went back to punching the lights out of Zach.

The sirens wailed in the distance, reminding me of the arrival of the police.

With an adrenaline-fueled burst of strength, I managed to pull Killian off Zach just as the law enforcement officers burst into the scene.

As the cuffs clicked around Zach's wrists, his defiance crumbled, replaced by a look of bitter defeat.

The weight of the files, now in the hands of the authorities, represented more than just evidence. It was a victory.

Amidst the commotion, Killian's eyes found mine, concern etched across his face.

It was then that he noticed it-the crimson stain spreading across my thighs. Pain, momentarily forgotten, surged back as I clutched my side, realizing the extent of my injuries.

The fall down the stairs had taken its toll, leaving me battered and bleeding.

Killian's expression shifted from fury to worry. "Catalina, you're bleeding," he exclaimed, a mix of panic and urgency in his voice.

The room blurred as paramedics rushed in, their swift actions replacing the chaos with a sense of order.

I was gently placed on a stretcher, the cold metal against my back a stark reminder of the reality I faced.

I prayed to God for my baby to be okay.

In the confined space, I mustered a weak smile toward Killian. "I'm sorry," I whispered, my voice barely audible above the sirens. "For everything, I said back there. I didn't mean it."

Killian, concern etched across his face, took my hand. "I know, You were scared, Catalina. I know you didn't mean it. We'll talk about this later."

The ambulance sped through the city, weaving through traffic as my consciousness teetered on the edge of darkness.

The medical staff rushed me into the emergency room, The pain was excruciating, each movement sending waves of agony through my body.

Hours passed like a dream, a disorienting haze of medical procedures and whispered conversations.

When I finally awoke, the sterile smell of the hospital greeted me, and I became aware of Killian's presence beside me.

The doctor, a somber expression on his face, approached. "Catalina, you were badly hurt during your fall. However, we managed to stabilize you. The good news is that your child is healthy and should be fine as long as you take it easy and stay out of trouble."

Killian's hand tightened around mine, the unspoken promise of support evident in his gaze.

The weight of responsibility settled on my shoulders - not just for myself, but for the life growing within me.

The doctor continued, "You'll need some time to recover, and we'll monitor your progress closely. You must prioritize your well-being, especially considering the circumstances."

As the doctor left us, Killian's eyes met mine, a silent understanding passing between us.

It was over.
