I fidgeted in the car as the silence threatened to choke me.
I couldn't breathe and it didn't help that Killian kept clenching his bloody fist around the car wheels.
Guilt was eating me up from the inside out. He wasn't even looking at me.
"Killian, before ton think otherwise..."
"What the hell were you doing there?"
I clamped my lips shut. The words dying in my throat.
I couldn't tell him, he would know about the death threats.
"I can't tell you," I said.
He scoffed but said nothing. I felt the temperature in the car drop to a certain degree.
It was an uncomfortable silence as he drove to the house. He parked and we got out.
Still saying nothing, he opened the door and ushered into the house. I stood in the middle of the living room nervous looking at him as he took off his jacket.
He tossed it carelessly on the couch and rolled up his sleeves, I took a step back as I watched him.
He walked to the mini bar and poured himself a glass of wine before sitting down on the couch with his cold eyes directed at me.
I avoided his eyes as I took a seat opposite him, neither of us spoke and it was beginning to make me feel comfortable.
The more we stayed, the more his eyes lost their warmth and that made me sad more than anything.
"I am not going to ask again, Catalina. What the hell were you doing there?" he asked coldly
"I can't tell you but please trust me."
His humorless chuckle filled the air making shame fill me.
"Trust you? That's rich coming from you."
"What?" my eyes found his cold ones.
"You don't trust me to tell me what you are dealing with but somehow I am supposed to Ignore that and trust you?" he scoffed.
"Killian..."
He stood abruptly downing the contents in the glass and setting his glass.
"I came home worried about you because of what Alina put you through today. I took care of you even when I was running late. Catalina, you lied to my face and humiliated me when I saw that man touching me. He was assaulting you." he yelled.
I flinched.
"I was handling it." I lifted my chin stubbornly.
"Yes, of course you were," he said drily.
I refused to meet his eyes, afraid of what I would see in them. The disappointment or distrust.
"What were you doing there anyway? Did you lie to me?" I asked.
"That's where my meeting was. I bet you didn't expect that, if not you wouldn't have bothered to lie." he laughed.
My cheeks heated up.
"I thought we were getting better. I have tried my best to make an effort. You wanted romance and flowers. I have been doing that but it looks like you are not satisfied." he said
His voice was flat. No emotion behind it.
I felt test threaten to fall, "No, please."
"Save it."
"I didn't lie on purpose," I said.
He narrowed his eyes but didn't say anything. It made me angry to think he was looking at me like that.
"And besides, I have no reason to trust you. You kidnapped Zack." I yelled.
"I did it because he was trying to keep you away from me," he yelled back.
Damn, there goes my defense.
"Is that what this is about? The kidnap? Is there any other crime you would like me to confess to?"
"No, I..."
"Because I have a long list that will send you running. You are attracted to my darkness yet it scares you, doesn't it?" he asked.
My heart tugged when I studied his face and what I saw broke my heart.
"No, that's not true."
"It is. You want a good man, someone that would ride off to the sunset with you and feed you apples every day."
"I didn't say anything like that," I argued.
"I made one mistake, one Catalina and yet you hold it over my head."
"You murdered someone." I snapped. My voice came out sharper than I intended.
The rest of the emotions on his face shattered as he schooled his face to be blank.
My heart sank when I realized the damage I had done.
"Killian, I didn't mean..."
"Yes you did, but you know what?" he asked.
I shook my head.
"Don't worry about it. You don't have to worry about that anymore."
He grabbed his jacket and started towards the door.
"Please wait, I didn't mean it like that," I begged.
But he was already slamming the door in my face.
I fell as the tears came spilling out. I didn't know what this meant for us now.
I had managed to ruin what we had.
Everything was falling apart. I changed out of my clothes and dragged myself to bed.
I cried myself to sleep.
I woke up to a body close to me, I was afraid to turn around and be disappointed that it would be all a dream.
I nestled back into the warmth and his hand tightened against my body as he drew me close to him.
"I am sorry," I whispered.
"Are you going to tell me what you were doing there?" he asked.
I shook my head, my body tight expecting him to leave but he sighed.
I felt like apologizing over and over again but all that left my lips was.
"You are not a murderer," I said.
He snorted but didn't say anything.
His hand kept stroking my arm softly till I heard his breath even out. I sat up and stared at his peaceful face.
"I am sorry," I said as I slipped out of bed.
The security guard said something about Killian having all the footage from the and needed his permission to show anyone.
My best bet was him.
I opened his laptop, grateful for having his password.
I opened the files and I realized he was yet to open them. It means he doesn't know where Vixen is.
My mind relaxed when I realized he had nothing to do with it.
I clicked for the footage dated when Vixen disappeared. It showed her going into the club and hours of nothing.
I was about to exit when a movement caught my eyes, I squinted at the screen and my hands flew to my mouth to cover my gasp.
Vixen was being carried out unconscious by a man in a mask and hoodie.
I quickly shut the laptop as I rocked myself back and forth looking for comfort.
