The Billionaire's Toy

chapter eighty

Ch. 80 / 99 Dec 27, 2025

I woke up disoriented and worse than I felt yesterday night. My sleep was great but it was awful not waking up to Killian by my side.

I was used to sleeping next to him and not seeing him made me antsy.

I thought sleeping would make me less angry with him but I found myself boiling when I woke up alone in bed.

I got angry when I realized he left and even angrier when I remembered that I was the one who chased him away.

Damn, my stubborn ass.

I still stand by my decision to not talk to him. Why couldn't he talk to me?

I know it was foolish of me to do this without his help but he didn't have to call me out on it.

Not to my face at least.

The house was awfully quiet, maybe he had gone to work. I sighed regrettably and tried to get ready for work.

I was startled when Killian knocked on the door when I had just grabbed my bag. A glance at him told me that he was dressed for work.

Maybe it was seeing his relaxed face like nothing happened last night but I was suddenly pissed off from seeing him.

I had a frown etched on my face from the minute I woke up till now and seeing him worsened it.

"What do you want?" I asked.

"Let's go, I am taking you to work."

I shook my head, "No, I can drive myself."

He glared at him, "Until we find out who has been sending you death threats, you are not leaving my side."

My eyes narrowed to slits, "So not only am I stupid but you are babysitting me?"

"Call it whatever you want. I don't care."

"No," I said.

"Did it look like I was giving you a choice? I am driving you to and fro from work, end of story."

His tone made me flinch. He was ordering me around. I almost scoffed.

I glared harder at him, "I don't care if you are the damn president, I am leaving. Go to hell, Killian."

I pushed past him and headed for the door. I kept cursing him in my head till I drove off to his office.

"Stupid, stupid, stupid." I banged the steering wheel.

Anger was indeed a bad thing. My brain just recognized he was trying to help and keep me safe but I was still bitter that he stayed away.

Yes, I am aware I told him to but he chose the wrong time to listen to me.

I was just angry that he implied I was stupid. That is not something you get over.

I stopped by to get coffee and headed into the office. I had just dropped his cup on his desk when the door swung open.

I turned sharply and heaved a sigh of relief when I saw it was Killian.

He stalked towards me angrily, "What the hell do you think you are doing?" he yelled.

I glanced nervously towards the door, "Keep it down. We are in public." I whispered.

"That seems to be your out. You rile me up and make me look like the bad guy when I am trying to keep you safe."

"Let's not do this here." I patted his chest.

He looked like he wanted to say more but he forced himself to swallow it. He turned and walked out of his office.

I wanted to ask him where he was going since he had an early morning meeting right now.

Well, he could sort that out himself.

I communicated with Killian through phone calls, he was ignoring me and I was doing the same.

It didn't help that every conversation led to fights and made things worse. I would rather avoid it.

I held myself till it was lunchtime to get out of there. It was suffocating, to say the least.

I brought out my phone and called Diane, she was the only one in my life that wasn't complicated.

"Hey," she answered.

"Hey, you up for lunch?" I asked.

"Trying to bribe me after dumping your work on me?" she teased.

"So no?" I asked.

"Usual spot? I need some pick-me liquid to deal with the rest of your clients."

"These clients pay for your car and rent." I quipped.

"Whatever."

We made arrangements to meet at our usual spot, I packed my bag and arranged the files on the desk.

Killian opened his door and paused at the sight of me preparing to leave.

"Where do you think you are going?" he asked.

"Out," I said simply.

"Not happening "

I whirled to face him, "No, you don't get to act like you care. You ignored me today and now you just want to dictate where I go?" I fumed.

"You keep acting out like this because I said you couldn't handle this situation alone and you go ahead and do this?" He scoffed.

My face burned from embarrassment and anger.

"Think whatever you want, I don't care." I snapped.

I snatched my bag from the desk and stalked past him.

He could kiss my ass for all I care.

I stewed till I got to the restaurant, Diane was already seated.

"Whoa, what has got your knickers in a twist?"

"Nothing. Just disagreed with my asshole boss."

Diane wiggled her brows. "What, he is angry that you won't have office sex with him?"

I started to shake my head before I realized I wasn't ready to share it with Diane.

"Yes, he is like a dog in heat."

"Don't blame him. He is probably excited to have you within arm's reach again." Diane said.

I shrugged.

Her words struck a nerve. Working with Killian again was supposed to be exciting but all we have been doing is fighting.

My fault but still.

A part of me wanted to drag it out to know the extent that he cared for me but I miss him.

We finished lunch and I went back to the office after leaving strict instructions with Diane about the parlor.

I almost bought something for Killian but I didn't think he deserved it.

I stubbornly went back with my empty hands. He was just coming out from the elevator just as I settled.

"Catalina," he tried to say, his hands reaching out to me.

"Don't fucking touch me." I shook his arm away. He tried again but I walked past him like he was invisible.

I could feel him still staring back at me the whole time I walked.

That felt pretty good.
