The Alpha's Toy

CHAPTER FIFTY

Ch. 50 / 53 Feb 14, 2025

DIANA'S POV

James was nowhere in sight as we ran up ahead to catch up to Angelo. No one had noticed when he disappeared. Another bubble of fear arose from my throat so I stopped in its tracks by swallowing it back down. My brother can hold his own, I hope.

Once we reached Angelo a circle of wolves surrounded us, they were going to protect us while we handled Jason. I noticed one was too young to be here but I knew Angelo well enough to question his decision. The air seemed too grow colder as we approached Jason. It nipped at your skin causing chills to run over your skin in defense. Jason’s eyes were all white like he had rolled them to the back of his head. Those hands were circled around a floating gem that was glowing bright red now. That was definitely not a good sign.

I could see clearly see the black magic that had formed into the gem floating out into the air particles next to it. The figure wasn't fully visible yet but it had the shape of a woman with long black hair. Her figure was toned and every inch elegant as she paced around like a patientless predator covered in ripped white cloths. The image was becoming whole with every passing second.

"Do you see what I see?" I asked loudly to Benjamin over the noise.

"Do you mean the possessed guy that is hovering in the air?" Benjamin asked baffled. "Because I can't believe it myself." I didn't even notice Jason's feet weren't touching the ground until then. The cold air that I felt earlier was coming from him since it was circling around him so fast that it enabled him to be in the air.

“No, the black entity projected by the gem.” Benjamin squinted his eyes trying to see what I was.

“I don’t see that.” He said concerned as to why I could and he couldn’t. “That only happens when the black magic never completely dies out when their host does, moving onto another person before they die each time.” Benjamin began to realize this was a big fight than he realized when he finished saying that. He gritted his teeth and clenched his hands as a way to fight off the fear uprising through all of us.

“Have you ever fought against one?” I asked hoping he would say yes.

He only shook his blonde head no silently as we all had our eyes glued to Jason. His injuries from the fight with Benjamin were not patched up by black magic like last time. I internally flinched when I saw the state he was in. His bones were broken so his legs were hanging down in unnatural directions. The black magic entity was definitely trying to escape his body before she died in it.

I held my breath as I watched Angelo fly through the faded image of the woman to throw Jason backward. Losing his focus on the gem it dropped to the ground turning back to black as a sign that it wasn’t completed in time.

The entity voice rang out all around us in a dark spine-chilling echo, frustrated that she was interrupted. The guys froze at the sound, it was a sign that magic could evolve themselves to be more powerful. That’s when she showed herself to all of us, not just me. I could tell just tell she was a vindictive entity since that is why she was created in the first place. Whoever started this wanted black magic to destroy and cause an endless amount of suffering.

A spell that would prevent Jason from breaking free from invisible ties left Benjamin's lips but I couldn’t understand what he said since it was all in Latin. I haven’t picked that language up yet, I only knew how to say it for now, so I couldn't understand it. Lastly, Benjamin took out a white cloth to wrap around Jason’s mouth to prevent him from saying any more spells. I was certain Benjamin had done some magic on it for safety measures. I watched as Benjamin lowered his head next to Jason to silently cast a spell into his ear so that he immediately fell asleep. While everyone was busy I walked towards the gem as it called for me to get closer. My curious mind wanted to take a closer look.

Something inside me moved as that lovely voice compelled me to touch it. So alluring it would leave goosebumps all over my body with its mere voice. I knew it was wrong but a part of me was drawn to its black magic.

As I tentatively grabbed it I felt all the power channeled into this gem with its negative intentions. They promised you things that could only be accomplished against your moral beliefs, numbing your reasonable thinking for their personal gain.

"Diana don't!" Benjamin yelled out suddenly causing me to snap out of the trans I was in. I looked down to see the gem was glowing red in my hands.

The woman's sinister laughter sounded all around me as she finally formed in front of me. After knowing what she was made up I felt fear tingle my skin. Her golden cat eyes were glowing as they stared into mine. The entity tilted her head to the side causing her long black hair to cover her face yet those eyes were still gazing into mine. She looked like an Egyptian queen making me wonder how long she has been alive. She must be ancient if she was part of that era. This entity was every inch powerful as I noticed black magic symbols tattooed to her skin by scarification. Those symbols were raised and visible on her tanned skin. No way in my right mind would I try to fight her but I had too. Placing my feelings to the side I looked back with a determined set of eyes.

"You already have black magic instead of you. I like that." She whispered feeling my left cheek, even though she couldn’t physically I still felt a faint touch as a mere gust of cold wind.

"You can't have me," I said pushing through the overwhelming fear she was bestowing upon me with her presence. My feelings were not holding back as I wanted them too.

"I will have you first my sweet Diana." She said running a cold hand through my hair causing it to blow all around. I couldn't physically move even if I wanted to out of fear. Those cold lips softly touched mine briefly until she faded into thin air again.

“Then I’ll take your boy toys.” I heard faintly echoing around me but she was no longer in sight.

Since she was finally gone, I could breathe in deeply to calm myself down. My chest felt tight and constricted as I started breathing again. It felt like I was underwater for a couple of minutes without oxygen. I looked up to see Angelo and Benjamin fighting off the undead who had turned their attention on us again. When we stepped into the circle they got distracted by Angelo’s people. Now they managed to push our people back and attack us. It was only a group of five against hundreds. The only person that survived was the scrawny young werewolf, he must have been quicker on his feet than I thought. Everyone else was trying to find a way out the circle again.

Benjamin and Angelo glanced at each other in confusion when they noticed the gem was not affecting me like they thought it would.

I slipped the gem into my pocket and moved to run along with them as Angelo’s wolves made another path for us. Running into the path the wolves had made for us I finally noticed James was not with us.

I wanted to turn back around looking for him but Angelo pushed me with his nose in wolf form to keep me going. “My brother, he’s missing!”

“We can’t stay to look for him, Diana,” Angelo said through our mate link. “It’s too dangerous!”

“I’m going to dispose of my ring! Run to safety!” Benjamin yelled out to me. He suddenly stopped causing me to look back at him. Benjamin took a second to kiss his mother’s ring before dropping it on the ground and running to catch up with us as more of Angelo’s wolves began to circle around us. The spell Benjamin did cause a cloud of black smoke to erupt from the ring before the particles around it grew darker along with it, becoming a black hole sucking the enemy in.

After that Angelo gave the orders to circle the enemy back around the black hole so they couldn’t run off. We were left with a black hole that slowly closed up on its own leaving us with the aftermath. Bodies littered the floor as their screams finally reached our ears through all the commotion.

Angelo changed back into human form and I saw the injuries he had better. Blood started dripping down the cuts on his face from being a leader on making a path out of that mess. Besides that, the rest of the injuries were simple bruises that were already healing.

He grabbed random shorts off the ground and slipped them on before walking towards me. “Give me the gem.” He ordered with an outreached hand.
