CHAPTER FORTY-NINE

Ch. 49 / 53 Feb 14, 2025

Diana’s POV

A pulsing knot in my gut told me to run away from danger instead of facing it. I looked at the other guys, they didn't look affected. Their eyes were only set ahead, fiercely and prepared to die if it came to it. I recognized the fear of dying within myself and extinguished it by thinking of my spells to take my mind off of it. But my hands trembled slightly.

"Say it," Benjamin suddenly said grabbing my hands in his warm one. His hand was strangely soft and soothing. A million thoughts few across my brain and I drew an eyebrow down confused. "Aperi," He said.

"Aperi," I repeated. A wave of calmness rushed over my shoulders. I have never felt something like that before. My fears were completely out of my mind and my thoughts became clear again. Something dark was trying to lurk inside my head.

"It's a mantra for when it tries to instill more fear that is already inside of you. That word is like a key for you since it can help lock black magic back in its box. I was planning to teach you this the last day I had with you." Benjamin said and I realized that he was still holding my hand when a hot flush of warmth radiated from him into me. I quickly took my hand away and glanced at Angelo who had his eyes on us. Of course, it wasn't the same warmth Angelo radiated but it was something I did not expect to feel besides from Angelo. Goosebumps arose on my arm as an aftershock.

"Keep your hands off," Angelo said threatening to Benjamin who only had his eyes on me. He rose his hands up in response to Angelo.

Angelo laid a hand on my arm and I turned to face him after breaking out of my thoughts. "Did he do witch magic on you?" He asked looking me over.

"No," I said reassuring him. "He didn't use magic." Or at least I don’t think he was.

James and Cam had passed us and ran farther up ahead. We ran to catch up to them silently. I watched quietly as Angelo went to my right side and Benjamin moved to my left as we ran. The awkward tension was hard to breathe in.

James smiled at us as we approached closer. "We think Jason is in that mess of wolves," He chuckled before saying, "We are going to die."

We all turned to see a couple thousand wolves that would make our joined pack of six hundred look tiny. No wonder we had a hard time fighting them, their numbers never went down, since they were practically undead. They were going in circles protecting whatever was in the middle.

I sighed already feeling defeated and glanced at Angelo who started to undress quickly. His muscles were distracting. I couldn't keep my eyes off when he got down just to his blue boxers before transforming into a midnight black wolf. I was transfixed to see his wolf side and the power he carried in those huge canes and nails.

Angelo lifted his head into the sky and gave a loud thunderous howl that gave me chills to hear. James and I shared and surprised look, our wolves immediately woke up ready to transform inside of us with that sound. We all stood there waiting ready to start the fight when the footsteps of thousands came running. It was a sight to see, so many wolves in all kinds of shapes and sizes coming to his call, not just from our pack alone. I got to see his title of Top Alpha first handed.

Angelo made the call for us to start moving and we quickly followed. I could hear inside my head Angelo giving directions, he was every inch serious as thousands heard his orders carefully. Everyone could tell this was serious and dangerous. Many could die if they didn't do their part since this was going to be a group effort.

He was recalling trained attacks to this kind of circle protection on Jason. It was one that wolves did to protect their alpha with their lives. Angelo was going to attack head on and create a wall of wolves to keep an opening for us. They would be randomly chosen.

Protect the Luna at all cost. Was his last order before we attacked the undead wolves.

Once we got close to the path our people made, the sound of growling and teeth snapping grew until it was all around us. Angelo was in front, James, and Cam on my side and Benjamin at my back.

We followed Angelo as he used his huge teeth to rip off heads and claw away a path up ahead. The smell of blood, decay and death filled my lungs as I took in a deep breathe. I didn't let it bother me to focus on my spell.

Raeinor vas.

It will start a flame on your hand that could be thrown at your opponent if you manipulate with the spell. Benjamin had done this earlier making it seem far more easy than it was. It was bloody hard to create the small bust of flame until it grew, but it was worth it.

A loud cry to my left caused me to stop suddenly in my tracks. Benjamin bumped into my back and we both lost our balance as we fell forward. I expected a hard surface to fall on but I found myself hitting his front chest as he switched us around taking the fall for me. Those blue concerned eyes struck a cord of feelings inside of me as I looked into them up close. These feelings for him were definitely stronger now more than ever. His arms wrapped around me swirled turmoil feelings inside me.

I snapped myself out of it and quickly got out his hold to roll on the ground missing the teeth of an enemy wolf who managed to break through the barrier of Angelo's wolves. Cam was busy fighting with a wolf with fire as fur that burned many to get through.

Taking my attention back to the wolf with teeth outreached towards me. Benjamin tackled it away the last second saving me yet again. I had my hand aflame again quickly throwing the blue flame into the wolf’s face before it got out of Benjamin's hold. That blue flame consumed everything it touched, growing ablaze on his brown fur. Benjamin turned and lifted me up by grabbing my arm, pulling me up to my feet as we ran away together. We watched Cam use his back leg to kick the wolf he was fighting only to burn himself in the process. He managed to knock the two wolves together.

Somehow the blue flames sparked up even bigger consuming the other wolf as his own fire could not quench it. Huh, I guess you can really beat fire with fire.
