Diana’s POV
I walked cautiously through the trees and waited for someone to come out of their hiding spot. My eyes could see through the trees, a trick Benjamin taught me the last week I had with him. Only everything was slightly a different color like I had on a pair of red-tinted sunglasses. Two black wolves were on my far left just watching for any sign of movement.
"Diana, daughter of Alpha Harris, glad to finally meet you." A man who I presume was Jason Jilmar called out. His deep voice made chills run down my arms. His power tickled the back of my neck and definitely showed me what powers were lurking inside that man. Or more like that gemstone, Benjamin told me about. If you can get your hands on that then he loses his powers.
"Show yourself!" I yelled out as I couldn’t see him anywhere.
A tall muscular man stepped out from the darkness lurking between the trees. Tattoos were covering his entire upper torso. They were witch symbols, many that I didn't recognize but could sense were evil. He had wolves as an army but he was not a shapeshifter himself. I could smell that in him, he was just a witch.
Those green eyes didn't stray from me. I was surprised his face was sharp but pretty in all the right places. He had long white hair that was tied back away from his delicate face.
"Where's Angelo?" I asked looking behind him.
"He's fine, for now." I clenched my jaw at his answer. I could tell he was in pain through the mate bond we shared, something was digging into his body.
"What do you want?" I spat out anger and watched him slowly step closer towards me.
"I want your power." He whispered touching the gem hanging over his neck. It was a black shiny stone with white markings glowing inside of it.
"Why?" I asked watching his wolves start to surround us.
"Because I want to heal someone," He said. "I can only bring them back from the dead but they aren't alive. I have a sister who needs help. She has cancer."
"I've never tried to heal someone with that. How do I know you're not lying?" I asked him and I watched his delicate concerned face slowly start to transform into a wicked smile.
"Of course I'm lying. I just want your powers to instill fear into those who don't follow me and hope to the ones that decide to kneel for me." Jason said showing me a taste of his power. A black curtain of smoke blow all around us, you could hear something like electrostatic coming from it, avoid noise that was not friendly at all. Whatever it was it was not good.
"You just need me for that then let Angelo go," I said hoping he would even though it was a slim chance.
He hesitated before saying, "I'd rather have you both, the Top alpha and my little ying-yang couple. So come freely, join me and together we can accomplish many things."
"Sorry I don't want to join your little gang," I said shrugging his offer off.
Jason stopped smiling, he looked up at the sky and sighed. "I really wish you would. It would be so much easier for both of us."
When his eyes looked back down at me they were no longer green but red like Benjamin's when he channels magic. That was the sign I needed to call out to Benjamin.
"Now!" I yelled out while ran away, into the smoke that erupted all around. It cut me up like thin needles knives flying all around me. Once I passed the cloud I dropped to my knees and saw the smoke blow over my head from the explosion behind me as those needles found there target, Jason. I watched the cuts on my skin heal up quickly becoming transfixed for a moment.
I looked back to see trees were all slashed up from the impact. Benjamin walked towards Jason with ease, not even one strand of his blonde hair was out of place. I could admire he looked badass with those glowing red eyes. He did not transform this whole time so his clothes were still intact. He had black jeans and a white button up shirt with the sleeves rolled up. He was covered in blood and dirt just like me.
"And who are you?" Jason asked giving Benjamin his full attention at that stunt. His body was healing right before my eyes, a dark shadow was stitching him back up. I had a feeling he was using black magic for that, it was wasn’t healing him up just like patching him with temporary bandages.
"You don't actually care do you?" Benjamin asked taking out his pocket knife to cut his palm, needing to draw a witch symbol for a certain spell.
"Ah, you're the alpha rogue which I heard about," Jason said ripping off his necklace to clutch his gem in his hand.
I carefully took out my wooden knife, that Benjamin gave me while I was practicing magic, from my back pocket. I crushed it up and watched it break into pieces. I was going to need all the power I could get. A sudden weight of power fell on my shoulders causing me to support myself against the tree trunk by putting a hand on it.
It was wasn’t the best feeling but I pushed through it.
Now that Benjamin got a look at Jason’s powers he knew what spell to use against him. I watched Benjamin's skin shine like microscopic diamonds but it wasn't that noticeable unless you knew the spell he was marking on his body with his own blood. Jason swirled his own black smoke around Benjamin before it consumed him whole. I held my breath as I hoped it wouldn’t hurt Benjamin. He walked through it unscathed. With a flick of the wrist, Benjamin's palm had a flame floating in his hand. I watched him throw it at Jason’s. Caught off guard by what just happened it hit him in the chest and the force caused him to fall over. It was kill or be killed now.
"You son of bit-" Jason spit out before Benjamin hit him again but this time in the face. The wolves were not interfering and I don't know if it was because they were both fighting with magic or because he didn't give the order yet. They looked like the ones that needed commands to function.
A pull on my mate connection caused me to look to my right. Somewhere in that direction was Angelo, I could just feel it. Yet there was nothing but trees.
There were two wolves watching the fight on the right. One kept his black eyes glued to me.
“Somnum,” I whispered focusing my attention at the way the word was supposed to be projected.
The wolves could hear me from this distance, it only took a few seconds to work. I waited until they both suddenly fell down to the ground twitching. They were in shock and their bodies would convulse from the pain they were in, I added that extra little trick to it. It would last a couple minutes but that's all I needed. I ran passed them and made sure to push myself to go faster than I normally would.
I ran past a tree but stopped knowing this was the place he was at. Since we haven't finished the mating process, he couldn't talk to me like my pack members. Who was currently trying to talk through our bond, especially my dad, I guess he was awake now.
I listened carefully and heard chains shake. "Angelo?" I called out unsure.
"Diana?" I heard Angelo say in a strained voice.
I placed my hand on the tree was saw my hand go through it. It was a spell to conceal. I stepped through it and what I saw made me grit my teeth in anger. Angelo was tied up in chains, he was covered in blood and sweat. He looked awful with sunk eyes looking like he was being eaten alive.
"What did he do?" I asked rushing to him. I grabbed his chains and focusing a spell in my head. It took a few tries before the chains turned to ice and he could easily break out of them. He fell forward groaning and I grabbed him to stop him from falling. He was burning up, something wasn't right.
"Bug," Was all he said before I saw something bulging from under his skin, it crept around slowly.
"I'm going to kill that bastard," I said feeling that warm energy that I used to heal start to turn cold. That wasn't good, I needed to heal Angelo. I took a few breaths before realizing the bug needed to be handled with magic just like it was created with.
He used black magic.
I looked around and spotted a sharp rock edge so I pushed it against my skin until I bleed.
"What are you doing?" Angelo whispered.
I could feel the warm liquid drip down my hand. I carefully but quickly marked his chest with the only symbol that came to mind. Two of the letters Y with a line over them. I held my hand on his chest and watched the magic happen. It was like I dropped a black drop of ink into his blood system, it rushed through every vein in his body.
I turned him to his side as he threw up the black liquid as well as the bug inside of him. It was a huge black centipede. It only twitched once and Angelo smashed it with his hand.
He sat back up and let me hug him. "Thank you," He whispered and he made a face at the aftertaste in his mouth.
"Let me heal you up," I said touching the side of his stomach. "You don't have too." He said looking up at me as I gently healed back up.
"I want too, you're my mate. I don't want you in any pain."I said slowly, as he watched me work my magic. Only this one didn't need any spells it came naturally.
Benjamin came running into the cave just as I finished healing Angelo. "We need another plan." He said collapsing to his knees breathing hard. Well fuck.
