Mated To The Alpha Quadruplets

Chapter 17

Ch. 17 / 76 Mar 09, 2026

Rylan’s POV

I lay there, trembling and whining in anguish as the magical compulsion settled into my very bones. It was like an insidious poison leeching the life from me, stripping away that vital piece of my soul that yearned for the white wolf.

My packmates watched in somber silence, their expressions a mixture of pity and relief. For them, the Alpha's decree brought a resolution, no matter how painful. The threat of war with our rivals had been averted. Peace would reign, even if it came at a devastating personal cost.

My father's face was a mask of grim resolve as he turned away, signalling for the others to follow. One by one, they began melting back into the forest, leaving me alone in the clearing with my shattered dreams.

I'm not sure how long I remained there, curled in on myself as the trauma of what had transpired washed over me in waves. What felt like hours could have been mere minutes lost in a haze of grief.

Finally, a familiar scent roused me from my stupor - Daniella. Of course, she would seek me out, thinking this was her moment of triumph with my bond severed. I barely registered her approach until her soft amber fur filled my vision.

"Rylan?" Her voice was gentle, almost pitying. "It's going to be okay. The Alpha has made his decision for the good of the pack."

I cringed at her words, at the implication that I should accept this injustice, this cosmic wronging. How could she possibly understand the hole torn in my very essence?

"You don't know what you're talking about," I rasped, my throat raw from the anguished cries. "He stole everything from me..."

Daniella sighed and settled beside me, draping her body against mine in a disturbing parody of a mate's embrace. "He did what was necessary to protect us. Now, you can take your rightful place with me as your Luna."

Her words sparked a flicker of rage through the numbness gripping me. I shoved her away with what little strength remained. "Don't touch me. You know nothing of what I've lost!"

She recoiled, stunned by the intensity of my reaction. For a moment, I thought she might retaliate, but her features softened into an expression of pity. "Oh, Rylan...I know you're hurting now. But you'll see, in time, that this is for the best. We're meant to be together, to carry on the legacy as the Alpha pair."

I wanted to roar in her face, to make her feel the anguish clawing at my insides. But the magical compulsion had drained me, leaving me feeling hollowed out and defeated. What was the point in fighting?

"Just...leave me be," I mumbled, turning away from her insistent presence. "You could never understand."

For once, Daniella seemed to grasp that pushing further would be fruitless. With a resigned huff, she rose and retreated the way she'd come.

The anguish was like a living thing, clawing at my insides and leaving me hollowed out. As Daniella retreated, I curled tighter into myself, trying in vain to fill the gaping void left by the severed bond.

"I will never give up," I murmured to myself, the words carrying more conviction than I genuinely felt.

My brothers and packmates had abandoned the search too quickly, willing to accept my father's decree as the end of it. But how could they comprehend the cosmic wrongness of what had been done? Of having one's destiny, one's other half, torn away by sheer force of authority?

If they could have sensed her as I did, that ethereal tether binding our souls, they would have understood the futility of simply giving up. The white wolf was more than a fleeting scent on the wind - she was the very air I breathed, the blood pulsing through my veins.

As the shadows lengthened, I pictured her out there somewhere, perhaps even now, a captive of the vile Silver Moon pack. The thought caused a tremor of rage to cut through the numbness weighing me down.

Had my father known the truth of her circumstance when he issued his command? If she were being held against her will, preventing me from coming to her aid, it would be an offence against every sacred tenet we lived by.

I thought of the dying wolf's words, vague and cryptic though they were. Something about the white wolf being the key to an ancient prophecy, one that could shift the balance of power...

My mind rebelled against the magical compulsion, straining to break through the haze it had induced. I was the son of the Alpha, strengthened by resilience flowing through my bloodline. Surely I possessed the fortitude to defy this unjust spell if only I could find the will to...

A pained whine slipped from my jaws as the compulsion reasserted itself, batting aside my meagre efforts at resistance. Still, a glimmer of hope flickered to life. I had felt it weaken, if only for a moment.

Perhaps, in time, I could regain my strength and break through the compulsion completely. If the white wolf was in dire peril, no Alpha's command could stand in the way of my sacred obligation to protect her.

My destiny would not be denied. Not if I had anything to say about it.

"Rylan, my boy. I need to talk to you."

My mother's soft voice broke through the haze of anguish surrounding me. Luna Lara knelt beside me, her amber eyes filled with gentle concern as she glanced over her shoulder, ensuring our privacy.

"What is it, mother?" I rasped out, my throat still raw from the anguished cries that had torn from me earlier.

“Come on back home, we can talk.” My mother's gentle voice was like a soothing balm against the raw anguish clawing at my insides. I lifted my head, blinking back the tears that had blurred my vision, and met her concerned gaze.

"I don't know if I can face the others right now," I admitted in a husky whisper. The thought of returning, of having to endure the pitying looks and Daniella's insistent presence, made my stomach churn.

Luna Lara regarded me with understanding. "You don't have to see anyone else. Just come home with me for now."

Her words held the calming weight of a mother's promise. Slowly, I dragged myself to my feet, wincing at the lingering ache from being curled up for so long. My mother stepped beside me as we headed back through the forest toward home.
