Rylan pov
As I watched Daniella's desperate attempt to assert her claim as Luna, a wave of anger and frustration washed over me. How could she be so blind to the true mate bond that connected me to the white wolf? I couldn't stand by and let her manipulate and deceive those around her, especially Rio, who deserved so much more than her false promises and schemes.
"Enough, Daniella," I growled, my voice laced with barely contained rage. "You will not manipulate or control those around you to fulfil your selfish desires. The white wolf is my mate, and I will not let you or anyone else come between us."
Turning back to Daniella, I couldn't help but feel a twinge of pity for her misguided attempts to claim a title that was never meant to be hers. "You may be the daughter of the Beta, but that does not entitle you to the title of Luna. True strength and leadership come from within, from the heart and soul of a true mate. And that is something you will never understand."
Ignoring her pleading gaze, I turned to Rio and reached out to him, seeking solace and support in the strength of our brotherly bond. "Rio, you know the truth. The white wolf is our fated mate, and Daniella's attempts to disrupt that will not change what is meant to be."
Rios's face contorted with anger. “No, Rylan. You are full of rubbish.” he seethed.
“What is the meaning of this?” our father, the alpha, stood towering over us, and I noticed our mother rushing after him worriedly.
Rios's sudden outburst took me by surprise. His words cut more profound than I expected, a sharp betrayal of our bond as brothers. I could see his anger and frustration at what he believed to be a betrayal of our pack and family.
But I couldn't back down now. The truth must be revealed, no matter the consequences.
As our father, the Alpha, approached us with a stern expression, I knew this was a pivotal moment. I took a deep breath, steeling myself for what must be said.
"Father, I must speak the truth," I began, meeting his gaze with determination. "The white wolf, the Luna, she is my mate. Daniella's claims are false, a manipulation to assert power that was never rightfully hers. I cannot stand by and allow this deception to continue."
The Alpha's expression softened slightly as he processed my words. I saw a flicker of doubt in his eyes, a hint of realisation that perhaps things were not as they seemed.
As our mother arrived, concern etched on her face, I felt a surge of hope. Maybe, just maybe, they would see the truth behind the facade Daniella had created.
“What is going on?” she asked each of us. However, before anyone could answer, we were interrupted by two patrol officers heading our way.
“Excuse the interruption, Alpha Morgan and Luna Lara. But, we just now received some important news on the missing omega,” he said.
My father’s attention shifted to the pack member who had spoken, his expression focused and intent on the new information being presented.
"What news do you bring?" he asked, commanding and authoritative.
The pack member stepped forward, his gaze steady as he relayed the urgent message. "We have received reports that the omega has been spotted near the southern border. It seems she is seeking refuge and assistance from a neighbouring pack."
The Alpha's brow furrowed in concern at the mention of the omega. "We must act quickly. Gather a group of trusted warriors and scouts. We will track down the omega and return her to our pack, ensuring her safety and protection."
“Omega? Eliza? But who cares where she is? She's just a worthless servant.” I spat.
“Rylan, you realise that is exactly the kind of mindset that fosters division and weakness within our pack. Every member, from the Alpha to the Omega, is valuable and plays a critical role in our survival and prosperity." my mother quickly reminded me, and I caught a brief, disapproving glance from my father. It was a reminder of the values our pack was supposed to cherish—unity, respect, and protection of every member, regardless of their rank.
Rio seemed to catch my eye momentarily, and I could see his disappointment. Regardless of our earlier conflict, we shared the core belief that our pack's strength was its unity and care for each other. At that moment, I regretted letting my anger towards Daniella momentarily sway my adherence to those values.
"Our focus should be on ensuring Eliza's safety," I continued, a sincere tone replacing my earlier harshness. "Her welfare is a reflection of our values as a pack. If she had sought refuge with another pack, we might have failed her somehow. We must understand her reasons and assure her—and every pack member—that they are valued and protected here."
The Alpha nodded, seemingly satisfied with my recovery. "Well said, Edward. We must maintain the integrity and unity of our pack. We can't afford to lose sight of our principles over personal disputes or ambitions. Let's address the issue with the missing omega first, and then we will return to this matter."
He turned back to the patrol officer. "Proceed with gathering the search party. And Rylan, I expect you to be part of it. It will be a good opportunity to reflect on the importance of every pack member's role, including the omega's."
As the officer left to carry out the Alpha's orders, I felt relief and responsibility. My father's decision was a chance for me to reaffirm my commitment to the pack's ideals and to demonstrate through my actions the kind of leader I aspired to be.
“So, are we going to talk about this mate situation?” Enzo touched my shoulder as everyone headed off to follow our alpha father.
“There is nothing to talk about. Daniella is our mate, and there's nothing more to say than she will be our Luna.” Rio snapped.
My heart clenched at Rio's swift dismissal, his words like a cold slap to my sense of reality. The ease with which he denied the undeniable truth of my mate bond with the white wolf pierced me with a pain sharper than I expected. Despite our brotherly bond, it seemed we stood on the precipice of an unbridgeable divide, his loyalty to pack conventions overshadowing the sacredness of a fated bond.
"Rio," I began, my voice steady despite the turmoil within, "you know better than anyone the significance of a true mate bond. It isn't just about tradition or convenience. It's about something deeper, a connection ordained by the Moon Goddess herself. Denying it... it doesn't just hurt me or the white wolf. It hurts the fabric of what we believe in as a pack."
The discomfort and conflict were apparent in Rio’s expression.
"Rylan," our father interjected, his authoritative tone demanding attention. "This is not the time or the place for such disputes. The welfare of our pack members is at stake, and that must be our immediate focus. We will address your... situation with the white wolf in due time. For now, our priority is to ensure Eliza's safety and return."
