Eliza’s POV
I followed Gerald down the winding corridors of the packhouse. Despite the grandeur of our surroundings, with intricately carved wooden beams and stained glass windows dappling the floors with kaleidoscopic patterns, I couldn't shake my nervousness. Meeting the Alpha was a pivotal moment that could determine my fate.
“Please, don't be worried. He's a highly respected alpha.” Gerald whispered kindly to me, and I responded with a smile.
We entered a great hall, the ceiling soaring high above us. At the far end, seated on an ornately carved wooden throne, was the Alpha. He was an imposing figure, broad-shouldered with a thick silver mane and piercing amber eyes. His expression was unreadable as Jasmine and I approached.
"Alpha Theron, may I present Eliza and her Wolf companion Jasmine," Gerald announced with a respectful bow. "They have sought sanctuary with our pack."
Alpha Theron regarded us for a long moment before rising to his feet. "Ah, the White Wolf girl. Welcome to Silver Moon," he said, his voice a low rumble. "You have travelled a long road to find yourself here. I sense there is more to your journey than a simple need for sanctuary."
I swallowed hard, struggling to find my voice under his intense gaze. "You are most generous to receive us, Alpha. I...there are many things I do not fully understand myself."
The Alpha's expression softened slightly as he descended from the dais. "Then let us speak plainly. I believe I know who you truly are, Eliza." He came to stand before me, his eyes searching my face. "Tell me, have you never wondered about your origins? Why were you raised among another pack when your fur is as white as the moon?" I couldn't bring myself to tell him about the Creek pack and how they had mistreated me, how the Alpha Morgan’s quadruplets were my mates.
A shiver ran through me at his words. I had pondered those questions my whole life, never finding a satisfactory answer. "You know something of my parentage?" I asked, hardly daring to hope.
"I believe so, but I'm not ready to reveal that information yet. I have a few things I want to ensure first.”
I nodded slowly, trying to temper my rising hopes. "I understand, Alpha Theron. This is a delicate matter."
Part of me was curious to know the truth he seemed to possess about my origins. For so long, I had felt adrift, a piece of me constantly yearning for that missing connection. Could Alpha Theron finally provide the answers I had sought my whole life?
But I also knew the importance of patience and discretion. Revealing such sensitive information too hastily could have grave consequences, especially given the circumstances that had led Jasmine and me to be here.
So, instead of pressing for more information, I inclined my head respectfully. "I appreciate your kindness. When you deem it wise, I will be grateful to learn what you can share of my parentage."
Alpha Theron's amber eyes studied me appraisingly, perhaps weighing my readiness to handle such a revelation. Finally, he gave a solemn nod. "For now, let us reinforce the sanctuary we can provide. You and your companion are under the full protection of the Silver Moon pack." He turned to address the gathered wolves. "See that quarters are prepared and ensure they want for nothing during their stay."
As his packmates moved to obey, the Alpha turned back to me. "I vow to you, Eliza, the truth shall soon be laid bare. But there are...considerations that must be addressed first." His gaze was weighted with meaning. "Ancient forces are at play, ones that could put your life at risk if precautions are not taken. But we have plenty of time to discuss matters.”
A chill ran down my spine at his ominous words. Just what had Alpha Theron uncovered about my past? And what sort of dangers could be lying in wait all this time later? I was grateful for Jasmine's presence beside me as these new uncertainties swirled.
"I will await your counsel," I replied, keeping my tone level even as my mind whirled. "You have already shown me great kindness in providing shelter. I am in your debt."
Alpha Theron shook his head. "You have no debt here, child. It is my honour to protect one of your...stature." His eyes shone with something more than simple hospitality. “Perhaps some fresh air and a run will do us some good?" the Alpha suggested, an eyebrow raised, a slight smile playing at the corners of his mouth.
I hesitated momentarily, the nervous flutter in my stomach tangling with the allure of the Alpha's proposal. Could I embrace the wild call of the night with the same unfettered abandon as Jasmine? Her encouragement was a silent nudge against my consciousness.
“I don't know what to say.” I struggled to put the words together.
"I would be honoured to see your white wolf," he continued, his voice carrying a note of genuine interest and respect.
“Thank you, I would like that," I said as I followed the alpha out of the Packhoise and into the cool night air.
As Alpha Theron led the way, a silent sentinel guided us to a clearing that felt sacred, a place where the earth seemed imbued with ancient strength. "It's here you'll find your stride," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. He shifted smoothly, his form changing, power and grace in every line of his body as he became the wolf.
Drawing in a deep breath, I focused inward, reaching for the presence of my inner wolf. The transformation process was intense, a symphony of sensations and instincts I was only beginning to understand. "*Trust yourself, Eliza,*" Jasmine's voice echoed in my thoughts, her confidence seeping into my being.
My body responded, shifting and reshaping, the transformation enveloping me like a storm. When it subsided, I stood on four paws, my senses heightened.
"I knew you could do it," came Jasmine's voice, a beacon of pride and joy within me. Her presence in my mind was comforting, a reminder that I wasn't alone.
"Your Wolf is truly incredible. You're truly one of us now," Alpha Theron said, his wolf eyes shining in the moonlight. "Let's run."
The forest beckoned, and we answered its call. As we ran, there was freedom in every step power in every muscle flex. The natural world opened before me in ways I couldn't have imagined, each scent and sound a discovery.
Jasmine was a blur of strength and grace. Our minds were linked, sharing sensations and emotions. "*Faster, let the wind carry you,*" she urged, and I complied, exhilaration flooding my senses.
Alpha Theron led the way, his presence a steady force that guided and protected us. The terrain changed, the challenges of the forest paths testing our agility, but together we were unstoppable.
As we crested a ridge, the vast expanse of the Silver Moon pack's territory lay before us, bathed in moonlight. We slowed, coming to a stop to take in the breathtaking sight.
"*Look at this, Eliza;*" Jasmine's voice was soft in my mind, filled with wonder. "*This is our world.*"
I looked at Alpha Theron, "Thank you," I said, not just for this run but for the acceptance, the belonging I was beginning to feel.
Alpha Theron nodded, his gaze sweeping over the landscape before returning to us. "Together, we are strong. Welcome to my home, Eliza. Here, you can explore as you please, but stay within the border. Enemies lie around waiting at any time.”
As Alpha Theron's words sank in, a shiver ran through me despite the exhilaration of our run. Enemies? Lying in wait? I had known there were forces at play that I didn't fully understand, but the Alpha's warning made the potential dangers feel more natural.
Jasmine sensed my unease as her mind brushed against mine. "*Do not fear; we face this together. The Alpha and his pack will protect us. We are under their protection.”
“Tell me, white wolf. What pack did you run away from?” Alpha suddenly asked.
