ADRIAN CASTILLO
I could tell Mr. Brian has been looking for opportunities to approach me as he kept looking over at where I was with Sophia.
Some seconds after Sophia left my side, he hurried to meet me and I clenched my fist. I was very furious at him for what he did and the lies he told against my father-in-law.
I treated Sophia and her family like trash because I felt they were deceitful people and looking for means to take my wealth.
Ever since I got to find out the truth, I have been avoiding him because I was afraid I would do what I do not want to do.
"Adrian, what are you thinking?" He whispered through his teeth and I looked away from him, wanting to keep my cool with my fist clenched in my pocket.
"How could you keep her close knowing well she is working for her father. Did you forget what I told you? You cannot trust that woman," he said to me.
"Why? Why shouldn't I trust her? You must be forgetting she is my wife and I won't tolerate any slander against her," I said to him, hoping that would make him keep his mouth shut but I guessed wrong.
"What? Your wife? Do you now consider someone like her your wife? That's the last thing you should do. I already showed you evidence of the thing her father is capable of and what she would do for him and yet you have decided to keep her close?" He clicked his tongue.
I was already boiling from the pit of my stomach as he kept spewing shenanigans from his mouth. I wondered for how long he kept talking but I kept enduring and keeping my cool because I couldn't afford to create a scene.
He moved closer to me and placed his palm on my shoulder. I glared at his hands on my shoulder but that doesn't seem to faze him.
"Oh, I think I get it now. Keep your friends closer and your enemies closer. You are keeping her closer to use her, aren't you?" He said with a smile on his face as if he had just figured out something sensible.
The fuck did he just say about my wife? Use her? I wouldn't use anyone.
I couldn't help but feel there was a lot more reason for Mr. Brian's accusations. The fact he kept slandering the Cox family's reputation made me feel there is an unsaid rivalry or an unsaid issue between them that he was yet to tell me and he has decided to use me as a part of his game plan but sadly he has failed because I now know the kind of person that he is and I won't be trusting him anytime soon.
Suddenly Mr. Brian pulled away and I wondered why only to realize that Sophia had arrived.
"We will talk more later," he said before walking away.
Sophia has been quiet since she came back and even on our way back home, she was quiet too. I stared at her a lot of time trying to figure out what was on her mind but I just couldn't think of anything.
She was okay earlier but her mood suddenly changed.
"Are you alright?" I asked her just as she stepped her foot on the first stairs.
"Yes, I'm fine," she replied to me and continued to climb the stairs.
I couldn't help but think a lot is going on in his mind.
I didn't like the silence she was giving me. We were supposed to be progressing but it seems otherwise now.
I climbed up the stairs faster so that I could catch up with her.
"Is something going on in your mind?" I asked her, holding her by her arms.
She smiled but I could tell the smile was forced.
"Nothing," she replied shortly and I knew there was a lot because women always said the opposite of what they felt.
"Look," I sighed.
"I do not want it to seem like I'm forcing you to speak to me but I just want you to know that you can speak to me. You can come to me and I'm all ears. If there is a problem you are facing, you can talk to me about it and I'd help you out. So when you are ready to speak, just know that I am some rooms away from you, okay?" I told her, hoping that would ease the tension.
"Okay," she replied simply and shortly and It didn't seat well with me but I kept quiet instead.
"Okay," I nodded my head letting her go.
I watched as she walked to her room without turning back to look at me.
Anytime I see us moving forward, we then take steps back. I wasn't used to this. I have never tried to get a woman to speak to me or try to make one happy.
I was always on my own and minded my business but lately, I just want to be in Sophia's business but it seems I was doing it wrong.
I need to speak to someone and hear from them what it is I have to do to get her to open up to me.
It's driving me insane each time I see us making progress and then it looks like we are not making one at all.
I retired back to my room and my phone beeped.
I checked the message and I immediately frowned.
FROM MR BRIAN: You will have to be careful with that girl Sophia. I must inform you that her father's company is suddenly going well again and who knows the means. Anyways be careful that's all I have to say.
I felt the urge to throw my phone but realized it wasn't my phone that was getting on my nerves but Mr. Brian.
Just what the fuck is he trying to do?
I quickly texted Mathew.
TO MATHEW: Get me very needed information about Mr. Brian.
