SOPHIA
"Do you want a drink?" Adrian asked beside me.
"If water is the drink you will get for me then that's fine," I replied.
"Sure, wait a minute," he said before walking away to get me water.
"Sophia."
I heard a familiar voice call my name and I turned around to see who it belonged to.
"Max," I called in surprise as I wasn't expecting to see him here.
"Wow! You look stunning," he said, walking closer to me.
"Thank you," I responded.
"What brings you here?" I asked him.
"My cousin is one of the photographers for this event and he forgot his phone. I brought it for him," he said, showing the phone of his cousin.
"Oh, I see. I thought you must have returned to London. Have you seen your cousin?" I asked him and he shook his head.
"I'm still looking for him," he replied, his eyes trailing me from head to toe.
"Goodness, you are such a sight to behold," he said and I blushed.
"Thanks for the compliment," I told him.
I heard someone clear their throat from behind me and I know it could only be Adrian. He had come back with a glass of water in his right hand and his left hand inside his pocket.
"Here you go," he said giving me the glass of water.
"Thank you," I said to him before drinking the water.
I lifted my head to see that Adrian was glaring at Max the same way he did at the restaurant the other day. I do not know why Adrian always glared at him.
Do they know each other from the past? I thought to myself.
"I... I will get going now. You look stunning Sophia," Max said again before leaving.
"Thank you," I replied as he walked away.
The moment Max was out of sight, Adrian cleared his throat. "Hmm. Max, the guy at the restaurant that day?" They said rhetorically.
"What brings him here? I doubt he is here for an event depending on how he is dressed," he said.
"No. He is not here for the event. His cousin's brother forgot his phone so he brought it for him," I explained to him.
"I see," he said.
"What's your relationship with him?" Adrian asked after some seconds, taking me by surprise at his question.
I thought I did tell him Max and I went to the same high school or maybe he forgot but I doubt he forgot. Maybe he didn't hear me.
"Max and I were classmates. We went to the same secondary school together," I answered.
"I see," he nodded his head before pinching the bridge of his nose.
"How close were the both of you back in high school?" He asked.
"We were pretty close. We were good friends that's all I can say. You do not have to worry, we do not have any relationship other than friendship in the past," I clarified for him.
"Worry? I am not worried. Not at all. I was just asking as seems to be looking at you in a way a man looks at a woman and not in a friendly way," he said.
"I doubt that," I replied almost in a whisper.
"Are you sure you are okay with just wat..." Adrian was cut off short a short bald hair man approached us with a woman, slightly taller than him with a body of a model beside him.
"Adrian Castillo," the man called.
"Mr. Brian," Adrian replied in a rigid tone and I wonder why.
The man narrowed his eyes at me and I cling to Adrian's arms, wondering the reason for his sudden stare as they friendly at all.
"I see. Isn't she Sophia, daughter, or Mr. Cox?" He asked and I wondered where he was driving at.
"Yes. Is there a problem?" Adrian pulled me closer to him he wrapped his arms around my waist which did not go unnoticed by the man.
"I see," the man cleared his throat.
"I have been trying to reach you for a while now but I am unable to. What's wrong? You do not answer my phone calls and you have been avoiding me too or maybe it seems so," the man said.
"Am I?" Adrian asked him and the man let out a small laugh.
"Maybe it's all in my head but I have to talk to you about something impossible," Mr. Brian said.
"What is it that you want to talk about? You can say it here," Adrian replied.
The man stared at Adrian and then at me and back at Adrian. It was as if he was trying to tell Adrian something with his eyes but Adrian still has a blank facial expression.
"You do not have to worry. You can say whatever you have to say to me in front of her unless you do not want your partner to hear then," Adrian replied and the man sighed.
"I will come to speak to you later. I see you are busy. Have a good time," he said.
Just as he attempted to leave, he halted on his track.
"And you Sophia, how is your father?" Be asked .e and I furrowed my brows in confusion. What was his business with my dad?
I do not know why I felt there was a lot it be said by him from the way he looked at me and the way he spoke to Adrian.
Why do I feel something is going on and Adrian knows and is preventing me from knowing it.
"My father is fine. Is there a problem?" I asked him.
"Of course not. Not at all. That's good to hear then. Alright, Adrian, we will talk later," Mr. Brian said before walking away and I felt the tension in the air vanish.
"Who is he?" I asked Adrian inquisitively.
"No one you need to know," Adrian replied and I stared at him frantically.
He is someone I need to know.
