SOPHIA
I stared at Adrian in surprise as he conversed with my aunt Paloma.
I wasn't expecting him to come here at all. He didn't even inform me of his plans and then he showed up just before dinner with some gifts in his hands looking dashingly handsome.
"It's such an honor to have you here. Sophia did not tell us that you were coming," my aunt's husband, Philip said to Adrian.
I was still standing where I was, watching as they conversed, still trying to comprehend if he was right in front of me or if it was all an imagination.
"I also didn't inform her. I wanted to surprise her," he replied to my uncle.
"Well then. You came just right for dinner. The wedding is tomorrow and it's a lot of work this week," Uncle Phillip said.
"If you don't mind excusing me to have some minutes with my wife," Adrian said and at the mention of the word wife, I felt my heart flutter.
Adrian had changed in the past few days and for me, I realize I didn't see him in the same way I did when we first got married.
Adrian surprised me by pulling me in for a hug and I froze with my palm resting on his chest and his arms around my waist, holding me firmly.
"I've missed you," he whispered in my ears and I felt shivers run down my spine.
He pulled back from me and our eyes meet.
"How have you been?" He asked.
"I'm fine," I managed to say.
"I see," he said.
"Sophia, it's time for dinner. Adrian, you can join us," My uncle informed us and Adrian let go of me and instead intertwine our fingers together, taking me by surprise.
I wasn't expecting it at all. His actions took me by surprise. We both walked to the dining table ad my eyes met with Evelyn's.
She did not fail to use her eyes to tell me that she was seeing my intertwined fingers with Adrian and she needed the gist later on.
Adrian pulled back a seat for me and I sat down on the seat before he sat down himself.
"I hope you like what we made for dinner. We didn't know you were coming," My uncle said and Adrian chuckled.
"Worry not. I eat anything. I am not selective," he said and I knew it was lying.
I might not know him much but Adrian was selective when it came to food and his maids even let me know whenever I cooked for us.
"How has married life been? I hope Sophia isn't a handful?" Aunt Paloma asked and I narrowed my eyes at her, wondering why she would ask him that question.
Adrian chuckled. "A handful? Not at all. She's is the sweetest human I know," he said and Evelyn and Aunt Paloma made an Aww sound while I felt my insides melt.
I wasn't expecting him to say that.
"She is easy to get along with. She's kind and a good cook too," he added and I had no choice but to stare at him in shock.
Did Adrian Castillo just compliment me? I thought to myself while fluttering my eyes.
"That's very sweet. I mean I know Sophia has always been a good girl and so I thought she must have changed but it seems things are going well in your marriage," Aunt Paloma said.
"Trust me when I say I wasn't expecting things to go this way. She's a very good person," he said.
We ate in silence until Evelyn broke the silence.
"I was sharing a room with Sophia before you came and now that you are here, you will both have to stay in the same room. I will make arrangements. I didn't know you were coming."
"It's not a problem. I didn't want Sophia to know. I wanted to surprise her," he told Evelyn.
"That's so sweet of you. I never expected you to come to my wedding but I am grateful that you came," she said appreciating him.
"It's no big deal after all you are Sophia's cousin and being here shouldn't be a problem for me. We have related by law after all," he said and she nodded her head.
The man sitting down beside me is Adrian Castillo and I was still trying to figure out what was going on in his mind and his head.
He was smiling more than usual and being too friendly that which scares me. I mean he has been nice over the past few days but now it's just extra.
Thinking of it now, I recalled he said he missed me when he hugged me. What happened to Adrian Castillo while I was away? I thought to myself.
"Thanks for the food, it's delicious," Adrian said after drinking his cup of water.
He placed the cup on the table and exhaled deeply.
"I'm glad you liked it," Evelyn told him.
I ate in silence, staring more at the table than at anyone as I was still comprehending everything happening right now.
I managed to eat my good finish and I drank water.
"Thanks for the food," I said.
"You are welcome," Uncle Phillip replied.
"You have something at the side of your mouth," Adrian said to me as he indicated to me with his finger.
I attempted to clean it but it seems I keep missing as Adrian kept trying to show me the location while using his face.
"I got it," Adrian said and so he used his thumb to wipe the side of my mouth as if that wasn't enough, he licked his thumb and I felt my stomach rumble.
That was hot. I swallowed the lump that formed in my throat at his actions and he smiled at me.
"Delicious," he said, staring deep into my eyes.
I heard gasps on the table from his actions.
My heart began to beat faster than normal.
Adrian Castillo, what are you doing to me?
