Chapter 73. VISITING GRANDPA

Ch. 73 / 114 Sep 17, 2024

ADRIAN CASTILLO

"If it isn't my two favorite people," my grandfather said with a smile on his face as he welcomed us into his place.

Sophia walked closer to him and hug him. "How have you been grandpa?" She asked with a smile on her face.

"I've been good and you?" He asked her before glancing at me for a short second.

"I'm been great," she replied to him.

"Look at you glowing and adding up. I guess my grandson must be doing you very well," he told her and she giggled.

"Adrian," my father called me, the smile no longer on his face.

"Yes grandpa," I answered.

"When will you be getting me my great-grandkids? Are you planning my death instead?" My grandfather questioned.

"You are not going to die grandpa. You still have like fifty more years to live," I told him and he hit me with his crane.

"Fifty more years? You should just tell me to my face that you look forward to bathing and cleaning up for me in the future," my grandfather chided and I chuckled.

"I haven't said anything bad father. I am wishing you long life and prosperity," I told him.

"By adding extra fifty years to my age? I am over eighty, I hope you know and if your father was still alive, he'd be heading to his sixties," my grandfather countered.

"You are over eighty and an extra fifty will only make over a hundred and thirty and that's young. I mean have you seen yourself in the mirror? You look like a man in his fifties. You will surely look like eighty when you are over a hundred and thirty," I told him and he rolled his eyes at me.

My grandfather's smile returned when he stared at Sophia. "My lovely grandchild, when will you bring my grandchildren to me?" He asked Sophia.

Sophia glanced at me as if expecting me to come to her defense and I shrugged. She should be the one to come up with an excuse for herself after all she isn't ready to give birth so she should tell him that.

"Grandfather just wait a little more and I will bring them to you," she told him and he chuckled.

"That's why I like you very much unlike that man over there," my grandfather glared at me and I shrugged.

He always glared at me whenever I refuse to do his biddings so it wasn't anything new.

"Later this year, I hope to hear some good news soon," my grandfather said and Sophia nodded her head as if she was planning to get pregnant soon.

"Sir, dinner is ready," one of the maids informed us.

"Okay," my grandfather replied.

We all made our way to the dining table. I pulled back a seat for Sophia to sit before going to sit down.

"How are the preparations for the charity event?" My grandfather said as soon as we were seated in the dining.

"It's going fine," I informed him.

"Will you attend?" I asked him and he shook his head.

Sophia began to serve the food to us.

"I have an appointment tomorrow. I'm starting to feel pains In my leg so I have to go for some checkup," my grandfather replied.

"How do you feel? Does it ache that much?" I asked him, a hint of worry laced in my tone.

Until I had Sophia, my grandfather was my only family and as much as I made him pissed a lot of time, I still did what he asked because I love and care for him deeply.

He was by my side and serves as my parents and also a grandparent at the same time. He is my role model although I haven't told him that.

"It hurts but not much but I'm a child of fire, little things like this can't break me. I will be fine," he said.

"Grampa can I accompany you to the hospital tomorrow?" Sophia suggested.

"No. You do not have to worry besides you have to be by Adrian's side tomorrow," I told him.

"I know. I will just accompany you and go back. I just want to make sure that you are fine, that's it," She told him and he chuckled.

"I am not a kid Sophia. I will be fine and if you want to accompany me then that's not a problem. Will the both of you stay for the night?" Grandfather asked.

"No, we didn't plan for it," I replied.

"We can stay grandpa," Sophia said.

"You want to stay?" I asked her.

"Of course. Let's spend some time with grandfather. We will leave tomorrow and I'm sure you have one or two clothes here for us," she said and I couldn't help but laugh when she referred to the both of us.

"There are no feminine clothes here," I told her knowing well she knew.

"I know but you have your clothes and that's good for me," she said and I chuckled.

"That's good then," my grandfather said before chewing the food in his mouth.

We ate in silence. The maids came later to clear the table when we finished eating.

"Adrian, see me in my office," he said referring to the office he had at home.

"Okay," I answered as I watched him walk away.

"Come let me show you the room I stay when I was still residing here," I told Sophia.

I placed my arms at the small of her back, leading her to the room.

"I'm full," she muttered, leaning closer to me. I opened the door for her and she entered. I switched on the light. I made my way to the wardrobe to take out some clothes for her.

"That's the way to the bathroom," I pointed in their direction for her.

"And this will do right?" I asked, lifting a white button-up shirt for her.

"Yes, that's fine," she said getting rid of her clothes.

"I will be back in a jiffy," I told her before placing a kiss on her lips and going to meet my grandfather.

I knocked on the door to the office my grandfather was in.

"Come in," I heard him say. I entered and closed the door gently before making my way toward him.

I sat down at the chair opposite him. "why have you requested me, grandfather?" I asked him.

"I didn't want to disclose it in front of my Sophia but I might have to go for a surgery for my leg," he said.

"A surgery? How bad are your legs?" I asked him.

"It's not bad, it's just that ever since I fell, the legs hadn't been as good as before," I told him.

"Most times I feel pain when I stand too much. I spoke to someone and they suggested I try a traditional method instead of going to the hospital," he said and I stared at him in a questioning manner.

" A traditional method? How?" I asked.

"I am not considering it so you do not have to worry. I already got an appointment so I will be going for surgery soon," he informed me and I sighed.

"What are the chances of the surgery? Will your legs be fine after that?" I asked.

"Of course," he said but I do not believe him.

"Why do I feel you do not believe me?" He asked.

"Because I don't just do. Grandpa, I need you to be honest with me. Will you be fine after the surgery?" I asked him.

"I will but the doctor said I will but I will also have to go for therapy and also exercise too," he said and I sighed in relief.

"That's good. Is that all you want to tell me?" I asked him and he shook his head.

"No. You remember Jessica?" He asked and I tried to recall.

"Jessie Simpson?" I asked and he nodded his head.

"Yes. Your childhood friend," he reminded me.

Jessie and I have been friends up until she left the country. She was sixteen when she left.

"She will be relocating back to the states. Her father spoke to me on the phone yesterday," he informed me.

Jessie is two years older than me which means she's thirty now. After she left the country, I didn't hear from her, and not too long after my parent's death happened and then I isolated myself and didn't care about anyone.

"When will she be back?" I asked him.

"I do not know but her father requested that she come live with you and Sophia until she got a place. She won't be staying with you and Sophia for long so you do not have to worry," he informed me.

"That's not a problem. I will just have to speak to Sophia about it so that she is aware," I told him.

"That's settled then. Have a good night," he told me and I got up from my seat.

"Have a good night grandpa," I told him before leaving him.
