Chapter 31. FEELING GUILTY

Ch. 31 / 114 Sep 17, 2024

SOPHIA CASTILLO

Adrian asked me not to let you know he was around. How do you expect me to go against my boss I kept pinching you that day so you would stop talking but you didn't and kept talking," Sarah defended and I sighed?

"Okay then. But I do not trust Adrian even if I want to," I told her.

"It's okay not to trust him but, surprisingly, he is different now compared to before," Sarah said, piquing my curiosity.

"What do you mean by that?" I asked, curiosity getting the best of me.

"Adrian doesn't smile with another. Adrian isn't friendly. Adrian doesn't have or keep company. Adrian doesn't talk for too long and I do not know if you haven't noticed it but Adrian Castillo now is different from Adrian Castillo then. This Adrian isn't the same man you met when you first knew him and I am sure you have also noticed that. He doesn't speak harshly to you and it's been a long I saw you cry," she expatiates.

She does have a point. Now that I thought of it, I haven't been in a bad mood for some time now.

I sighed. "Okay. I have packings to do so I would not like to talk about Adrian anymore. Is that fine?" I asked and she nodded her head.

ADRIAN CASTILLO

"Where are you going to?" I asked Sophia as she came down the stairs with a cross bag on her.

"I am going shopping," she replied.

"Shopping? Do you have money for it?" I asked her.

"Yes," she replied and I wondered where she got money from because I do not give her money and her father was just starting to pick up from where he stopped so I doubt he sent her any money.

"Who gave them to you?" I asked her and she stared at me with a questioning look on her face.

"I meant, I mean..." She cuts me off.

Lately, she has been getting bold. Compared to the woman I first knew, she wasn't as weak as before.

"My father sent me money," she replied and I suddenly felt stupid for asking her that kind of question.

"Can I go shopping?" She asked.

"Yes you can," I told her.

"Thank you," she replied.

"I will drop you off. Just wait for me to get changed," I told her before taking long strides up the stairs to quickly get changed.

I followed Sophia out of the mansion and opened the passenger door for her, an act I have never done for anyone before.

She was surprised by my gesture as she glanced at me for some seconds before going in.

Why was I feeling nervous? I have never felt nervous around anyone before. All thanks to this woman who knows just how to get my feelings all stirred up.

For the past weeks, I change my attitude towards Sophia after realizing that I had just been accusing and punishing her for the wrong reason.

I have never felt guilty towards anyone before and so I decided to be nice to her.

I have made her cry a lot of times and decided to make up for it.

"So, your cousin. Tell me about her," I spoke, wanting to start up a conversation with her.

Sophia seems taken aback by my question.

She cleared her throat.

"My cousin's name is Evelyn. She's five years older than me and two years older than Sarah my sister. We all grew up together," she replied and I could tell she wasn't comfortable talking to me but could I blame her?

I understood that she wants comfortable with me yet after all the accusations and things I did to her so it was only normal for her to react that way.

"I see. Did she come for our wedding?" I asked her, wanting to know.

I wanted to keep talking to her. I didn't want the conversation between us to end. I have never felt the urge to keep talking to someone and engage them before.

"She came," she replied shortly.

Although I could tell she didn't mean to sound that way, I felt she was dismissive.

It was as if she was tired of talking to me.

I sighed deeply and kept my mouth shut, not wanting to make her feel any more uncomfortable. I have decided to go gradually and not rush her.

'Fuck! This isn't you Adrian!' my inner man said and I knew it was correct.

I was trying too hard to get a girl to talk which I have never done before and she won't just be replying to me in a dismissive tone, she also sounded uninterested.

"Thank you for letting me go," Sophia said after a while and I nodded my head.

I didn't want to talk to her anymore but I just didn't know why my body doesn't do as my head says.

"Well, you have your freedom don't you and what will I gain by keeping you in? That's unnecessary and besides she's your cousin," I replied to her.

She seemed surprised by my response.

She opened her mouth to say something but closed it back.

I could tell she was struggling to say something and that it had to do with me. She doesn't have to tell me but her facial expression says it all and besides I was also surprised at myself.

I was talking too much than normal and I needed to stop myself.

I didn't know if what I felt was guilt for how I treated her in the past or if there was more to it. My eyes locked with hers and I looked away immediately as her eyes seem to have more power over me than I had over myself and I didn't want to lose focus on getting us into an accident.

'The fuck is wrong with you Adrian. Are you sure you do not need to see a doctor?' I thought to myself.
