When we get to Ethan's house, Ethan tells me to just play along when we get inside and that's what I do.
Admittedly, I was a little drunk, but not too drunk. I'm aware of everything I did, or rather, I tried to kiss her, and she wouldn't let me. I regret that, to even think of listening to my friend with his ideas. Even though inside I'm dying to taste her lips, I imagine they are soft and warm.
Well, at least he didn't get upset with me and it won't change our relationship. That's what matters most to me. When I woke up and saw her asleep my heart skipped a beat. She is beautiful and relaxed. I kiss her forehead without being able to help it, not knowing that she would wake up with the touch of my lips.
After seeing her walk to the bathroom in those pajamas that made her look so sexy, I couldn't get up right away. You will understand why without having to say it.
I think of other things and calm down just as she comes out of the bathroom. I take a quick shower and when I get out there is no Paige in the room. I go down to the kitchen and see her talking to Ethan, when she sees me coming, she says goodbye and waits for me in the car. We get home and we both go straight to our rooms to get ready for work.
I find her at the table, calmly and beautifully having breakfast.
"Good morning," I greet, sitting across from her.
"Good day, what do we have on the agenda for the office today?"
"Today, I was thinking of taking you to your company, well, to introduce you to the person who will be in charge of it when we go on our trip," I say, sipping my coffee.
"Sure, I have no problem with that," she responds, smiling.
"When you're ready, we'll leave," I say, placing my empty cup down.
"I'll get my things," she says, getting up.
I wait for her in the living room, while I think about everything that can happen on the trip. I have not stopped thinking about all the time we will be alone and together. I must admit that I am afraid that what I wanted to happen last night will happen, but I have also thought about what might happen after that, how our relationship will be. Will it be wise for us to damage what we have? That is the question I have been asking myself since this morning as I watch her sleep next to me, imagining what could have happened and the consequences of that act.
It's something I wish with all my heart to do, but at the same time I don't want to. I feel really confused about all of this. I'm in love with Peyton, but I haven't felt like talking to her for a few days now, like last night I didn't do it.
Ethan told me that he was investigating Peyton, so I got really upset. I complained to him for doing it, the only thing he got from her is what I already knew. She likes to go out dancing, enjoy life. She has few friends, spends most of her time in the building. That made me proud of the future wife I have, I also felt the worst for being having doubts about how I feel about her.
The day goes by quickly at work, the good thing is that the person in charge got along very well with Paige, who owns this place. They coordinate some things, like the direct contact that will have with her from now on and after that, we go to my company, I have to sign some things that I have pending.
After six o'clock in the afternoon we go home. Tonight, we are going to have dinner at home, the lady who takes care of the house has prepared everything for us.
Simba greets us with licks and barks, and we both greet him with caresses and love, well, the latter is only from Paige since I don't give him kisses.
"Dinner is served," the housekeeper tells us.
"Thank you," we both say at the same time.
We have dinner in silence. I think both of us were affected by what happened last night at Ethan and Sarah's house. No matter how much we try to pretend that everything is still the same, it's not true. That's why I question the trip and crossing the line of our friendship.
Tonight, we don't watch series or movies. Paige tells me she's tired, and I tell her I feel the same.
In my room, I pick up my phone and send a message to Peyton. While waiting for a reply, I undress and prepare to go to bed.
"Hi, love," my beautiful replies quickly. "How are you feeling today?" I ask about her illness. "Better, I got up for a while in the afternoon. I miss you:’ (“ she responds.
I smile as I read her message, and I give her a call, which she rejects, but then she video calls me back. I accept with a smile, happy to see her, even if it's through this mode. I am a very privileged man to have her in my life, waiting for my freedom.
That's what I always remember when I talk to her. When I see her, when I think of her. Not just anyone would do that.
I talk to her for over an hour, and we end the conversation in our usual way, as we both have needs.
"The day we're together, I'll lock you up in a week, not just a month, without letting you leave the room," I say with lust in full swing.
"I'm counting down the days for that to happen," she responds, biting her lip.
Around midnight, we say our goodbyes. I fall asleep with a smile on my face from the conversation with Peyton. That girl, just by talking to me, reminds me of everything I feel for her, forgetting the confusion I feel about my wife.
Everything turns black, and I find myself in an unfamiliar place, another country. I see myself older than I am now, and I don't understand where I am. Surely, I'm dreaming. I look around and see a light, and under that light is an older Paige, with a little girl by her side, no older than 5. I hear my name being called, and I turn around to see where the voice is coming from—it's behind me. When I turn, I see Peyton, with a prominent baby bump, extending her hand toward me while gently caressing her belly.
"Love, we're waiting for you," she says, smiling.
I turn my head and search for Paige, who is still in the same place but now with a man by her side, his hand on her waist, and they both smile.
I wake up because I didn't like seeing Paige next to that man, even though I couldn't see his face because it was just a shadow. On the other hand, I smile like a fool thinking of Peyton pregnant. I sigh, recalling that image, and I believe that dream is a premonition of a not-so-distant future. Maybe this dream is the clarity I needed to determine my future.
It's what I needed to understand that I should be with Peyton, that she is the woman of my life and the mother of my unborn children.
