P.O.V Emily
These past few months I must admit that I have been keeping an eye on my son's relationship with Paige. About the dinner I made some time ago it was all planned, when I want to, I can be very good at research. That woman Peyton, lives in the same building as the friend and my husband. Luckily for me I was friends with his wife, a few questions here and there and that was it, I had what I wanted.
He told me that this woman is engaged, he doesn't know to whom, but he is interested in her. He hasn't told me that they are anything more than friends, but I don't think that his interest is just for friendship.
When I saw her arrive at the dinner on his arm, I knew it was a good idea, although I expected Mason to ask about her and her relationship with him. He didn't. I don't think he's even in love with her. He's just dazzled by what she tells him she is, not who she really is. I am not dumb enough to know that he is only interested in my son's money.
That is why I have sought to know more about their friendship, I have not found proof of anything that would make me take away the illusion that he feels for this woman. I will not rest until I remove the mask with which she has deceived my son.
On the other hand, Paige is the ideal daughter-in-law, besides, I am sure she is in love with my son, it is only Mason who does not open his eyes. As much as he denies he has feelings for her I know he does.
My husband doesn't get involved, he sees that I'm up to something, but he doesn't ask. When the time is right, I will tell him everything I know.
There are just over four months left in our marriage, a few months that will go by faster than I would like.
It pains me to watch both Mason and Paige let go of a beautiful story they could have if they let out those feelings they have bottled up, they should just let out what they feel and be happy.
I don't say anything to either of them, I just spend time with Paige when I can and when she can, I make the most of being with her, with any excuse.
I like knowing that my son doesn't leave the house anymore, he is spending time with his wife. Even though they sometimes spend it at home, I heard about the dinner he hosted for her. I even helped him with some of the details. Hoping everything works out well.
That dinner was last night, I texted Paige to see me today, I'm anxious to know if he dared to say anything to her about how he feels, that was my advice. She accepted right away, and I'll see her at six.
It's minutes to six and I'm already at the family's company. Paige came here today to continue to catch up on hers. I don't know what surprise Mason had for her. That's what I'm anxious about.
"Hello, Emily," my beautiful daughter greets me.
"Hello, sweetheart. How was your day?" I ask, smiling.
"Good, not as exhausting as some other days," she says, smiling.
"Let's go eat what drives us crazy, my treat," I say, heading towards her car.
We hit the road, and I feel anxious about what she's going to tell me. I don't want to get my hopes up, but I can't help but imagine a future with them together.
We settle down to have dinner at our usual place. As soon as she sits down, I can't help but ask,
"How was last night's dinner?" I ask, unable to keep quiet.
"You knew about that dinner?" she asks, surprised.
"Just that you were going to have dinner," I reply, blushing.
"We're going on a trip in a month. We'll visit several countries and be away for over a month. I'm really excited about it," she tells me, smiling.
"That's fantastic. Needless to say, I'll take care of Simba," I reply, smiling and applauding.
"Of course, I knew you would. Mason too. Do you know if something's wrong with him?" she asks, concerned.
"What do you mean?" I ask, scared.
"He's been acting strange lately, I don't know," she says, and I become even more nervous.
"How so?" I ask, confused.
"More attentive, and sometimes I feel like he's seeking closeness. Forget what I said, it must be just my imagination," she says, sighing.
When Paige leaves with my mother to have dinner, I call Ethan. I need to talk to him about the dinner and his cold and distant attitude that only discourages me more each day.
I don't know where he got the idea that she feels something for me. Just by looking at her, it's clear that she only wants our time together to end so she can move on with her life.
Maybe she found a guy who stole her heart, which is why she says she could stay and live somewhere else. I can't allow something like that. I need to know if the man who manages to win her heart truly deserves it.
Ethan agrees to meet me, and we meet at a bar we often go to.
"Here's the lovesick man," he says with a playful tone.
"Don't be an idiot, it's not true," I say, annoyed.
"Weren't you in love with the woman who's waiting for you and the three years you have to spend with Paige?" he asks, only to annoy me even more than I already am.
You know I am. As for my wife and her supposed feelings for me, it's not true. She made it clear yesterday that we're just friends, like siblings. She doesn't feel anything for me. You're imagining things when you say you notice something more than sibling affection towards me," I say through gritted teeth, frustrated for creating illusions.
"It can't be that she feels nothing for you. You're probably misinterpreting what she said," he insists with his theory.
"I prefer to drop the subject. I just wanted to tell you that I'm done trying to win her over because I don't want to lose her as a friend. I value her friendship too much to risk losing it by pursuing something she doesn't want with me," I say, closing the topic.
After dinner, she takes me back to my house, and then she goes to hers.
Mason's narration:

"Here's the love-struck man," he says jokingly.
"Don't be an idiot, it's not true," I say, annoyed.
"Wasn't it you who was in love with the woman waiting for you and the three years you have to spend with Paige?" he asks, only to annoy me even more.
You know I am. As for my wife and her supposed feelings for me, it's not true. She made it clear yesterday that we're just friends, like siblings. She doesn't feel anything for me. “You know I support you in everything, but I think you're making a mistake. A lot of things could happen on that trip," he reminds me of his idea about the trip.
"Speaking of that, she told me she might move to another place if she ends up liking the lifestyle in that country, all thanks to your ideas of taking her to see many places," I say, making mocking gestures.
"I don't think that will happen. In fact, I bet that during that trip, a lot of things will happen between the two of you. I can already picture us discussing how to tell that woman Peyton that you won't want to be with her," he says, smiling.
"You're hopeless. Just because you don't like her, you're doing everything to make me believe that Paige feels something for me when it's not true. Let's drop the subject, or I'll end up really mad at you," I say, starting to get genuinely angry with him.
"Okay," he says, raising his hands in a gesture of surrender.
We change the topic and talk about the company. Why is it that we always end up talking about work whenever we meet? It's because we're both perfectionists in what we do, and we like to discuss every detail to ensure that everything turns out perfect.
