52: A Romantic Dinner Without Romantic

Ch. 52 / 127 Apr 15, 2026

P.O.V Mason

When Peyton commented to me that it was nothing delicate that I had, just a virus for which I had to rest for a few days I felt that she was hiding something from me. It made me uneasy. That's why I acted like that when Paige arrived. Then when I saw her ready in such a short time, I was amazed at how beautiful she looked with just lipstick.

I was nervous that she wouldn't like what I prepared and told her so, when she replied that she had no reason to be, it was like she had brought me out of the bubble I was in by reminding me that we are not a real couple. And me setting up a romantic dinner, how idiotic of me.

Good thing that got on my nerves. I ordered his favorite restaurant for us and no one else.

I must admit that every day I see something new in her, like now I see her enjoying the food with so much pleasure that I couldn't help but enjoy this image in front of me, I won't deny that I imagined her enjoying it differently and wonder if it would be the same as now or more. But when she moaned, I couldn't help but close my eyes for a moment.

I have a hard time realizing that with something so simple she made me feel sexual desire, it must be because I haven't been with Peyton for too long. That must be it.

She notices that I haven't eaten anything, and I couldn't help but tell her that she looked good eating, I didn't want to say what I was really thinking. Anyone could easily fall in love with her watching her do something as simple as eating. What I couldn't help but tell her was that I like that she's not one of the girls who counts the calories she eats to maintain a good body, in Paige it's natural beauty and perfection.

To see her blushing is also a delight for me. To make her feel shame or embarrassment I start eating and I don't watch her like I did at the beginning, I do it just not as noticeably.

The evening progresses slowly and it's the best thing of all, I like being with Paige like this, something as simple as a dinner, just the two of us talking with confidence, these moments make me feel calm and relaxed. I like having a person to feel relaxed and carefree with. And what makes it even more perfect is that she shows me the same trust that I have with her. The only thing I keep from her is what she generates sometimes inside me, I think if I do, she may pull away because she doesn't feel the same and so I keep it just for me, well for me and Ethan.

This romantic dinner was his idea, sometimes I feel like he is giving me false hope with Paige, he tells me he thinks she is just as much or more in love with me than and her, I wish, however, I see no indication of that in his behavior with me.

"¿What do you think of what you've eaten? Do you agree with me that everything is delicious?" I snap out of my thoughts when I hear her speaking to me.

"It's all exquisite," I reply, smiling.

"You have good taste in food, we can agree on that," she says, laughing.

"Not just in food, but in other aspects as well, I have good taste," I say, pretending to be hurt by her statement.

"Well, I can't attest to that in the other aspects," she replies, shrugging her shoulders.

I want to say many things to her, but I hold my tongue and smile as I see the waiter approaching our table.

"Would you like to order your main course, or should I bring you more appetizers?" he asks, looking at the almost empty table after bringing us so many dishes.

"Well, I have already decided what I want," Paige says, taking the menu and handing it to the waiter without opening it, and says, "I want everything that's on it." She smiles, and I think the poor waiter is about to fall over from the shock.

"That will be for both of us. With one of each dish, we can share," I say, handing over my menu as well.

Once we're alone, I look at Paige, who continues to taste the remaining appetizers on the table.

"You should have ordered two of each. At least with desserts, I won't share with you. You order your own," she says seriously.

"I don't think I'll be able to have dessert with everything we're going to try, but I know you always make room for it, even if you're already full. It's something I've learned over the years being with you," I comment, recalling all the times she improvised desserts at home even when we had pizza for dinner.

"Then you know I won't give you any, unless there's something I don't like. You know I hate certain flavors of ice cream, and I can give those to you," she replies, smiling and winking at me.

"I know, I appreciate your generosity," I tease her because I know she doesn't like me saying that.

He rolls his eyes and shakes his head; I refill his wine glass and do the same with mine. We talk about our friends; I tell her that I saw Riley talking very close to a guy at the company and she tells me that she's been strange lately. We both think it's for that very reason.

They bring us our plates and we try everything, then the main course which we both share, we split and then exchange plates, so we eat everything we both eat. The waiter watches us and smiles at our witticisms, however, he doesn't say anything.

It's time for dessert and I just watch as she eats everything, God is that sometimes I do not understand how in a body so small and thin fits so much food. It's the first thing I thought the first time I saw her eat like that, now, no matter how many years go by, I can't help but wonder the same thing.

I realize that she doesn't taste a pistachio ice cream and I remember that it's because she doesn't like that flavor, I raise my hand to take it, but when I touch it, I feel her hand and it's because we both touched the ice cream at the same time.

“Sorry! I was just going to pass you the ice cream so you could have it, I wasn't going to eat it myself," she says, blushing and smiling.

“I know, you don't like pistachio," I respond as I observe her closely.

“You know me well, these years haven't been in vain," she comments, smiling.

“Not at all, we've built a very close relationship," I say, hoping to see her response.

“Yes, you're the best friend I have. I have no secrets from you, and that's hard to come by these days, you know how friendships between men and women often get lost in desire, but that won't be the case with us," she confidently replies.

I nod without responding with words, trying to hide my disappointment. I take a bite of the ice cream and make a face.

“This ice cream doesn't taste very good," I say, setting it aside.

“Really?" she asks, surprised.

I don't know if it's her words that make the ice cream taste unpleasant or if it's really just bad. I think it's more the former option.

It bothers me how casually she talks about it, as if it's something simple. When for me, it's difficult to think about it, with just over four months left until we separate for good. Ethan has no idea about her feelings for me; he's seeing things that aren't there.

Hello, beautiful people! I would like to know if you're enjoying the story. Let me know in the comments.
