Christian
"Where the fuck is she?" Amy's almost ten minutes late which isn't what I expected from her today, if anything I thought she would be early but that hasn't happened and that stupid nervous feeling in my stomach is only getting worse! "If she doesn't turn up in the next five minutes then she doesn't get a fucking penny!" Jack grunts as he stomps across the barn. We're all getting anxious waiting around. We just want this done with so we can take the kids home and start a new chapter in our lives.
Dad was so worked up that he left the barn before Amy was even due to turn up, went to try and walk it and also keep a lookout for her arriving, he said he'd call if he saw her but so far it's been radio silence from him which isn't good. "Where did Dad even go?" Jack asks looking slightly on edge but I get it. "I'm going to go look for him, someone calls me if the bitch turns up."
He quickly leaves the barn leaving the rest of us sitting around and waiting on someone who isn't even worth our time. I shoot Callum a text to check in on Brody while Tom checks in on Mom. Of course, the girls are having a ball with Mom while Callum has taken Brody for a walk in the woods to keep him away from the farm, it never takes them long to feed the animals and Brody was getting bored. A smile tugs at my lips as I think of Brody's active ways, that boy is a whirlwind already and I can't imagine what he's going to be like when he's a teenager but I can't wait to find out either.
We sit there, no one talking as were all lost in our own thoughts for another thirty minutes and I'm seconds from ending this and walking out of there when my cell ringing drags my attention back to the present and I get a sickly feeling when I see that it's Amy calling me. Why would she call me? Tom runs over to me as I press accept and stick the call on speaker phone.
"Amy. Where are you?" I can hear voices in the background but they seem somewhat fuzzy and hard to recognise. "Well you see Christian, I had it all planned out. Every last detail was gone through with a fine comb until he... he had to get his stupid nose involved. Why did he have to get involved huh? Why did he have to play good old detective? If he hadn't then this would all be over now but no, the stupid nosy fucking prick!" The more she talks the angrier she gets and the more scared I become.
"What are you talking about, Amy?" I try to sound calm but I feel anything but and so must Tom as he starts to slightly shake beside me. "She lets out an irritated huff as if I'm annoying her but then I hear a voice that instantly has my blood boiling and fears spiking my heart rate while she answers my unspoken question.
"Yes, that is who you think it is Christian, and if you want her to stay alive then I suggest you take a walk down memory lane and maybe, just maybe you'll get to her in time." The call goes dead and I start losing my shit, punching and kicking everything in sight. I can hear Tom's voice but it's faint, as if my ears are clogged by fog.
"CHRIS, STOP!" Suddenly I'm thrown to the floor and feel a heavy weight on my back as Tom sits on me, fucking sits on me the ass! "Chris, you've got to calm down brother!" I try to buck myself to get him off but he's got some sort of solid grip on me and I'm not moving him in the slightest. He's not as big as me but clearly all his years of training in the army have stayed with him.
"What the fucks going on in here?" We both look to the door when we hear Callum’s voice. “Cal, where’s Brody?" He looks taken back for a moment but seems to quickly realize that something’s going on as he runs over to us. "If I get up are you going to stay calm?" Tom whispers as he slightly gasps while trying to catch his breath. I give him a nod then roll onto my back once he gets up. He holds out his hand to help me up and I gladly take it. The fucker's winded me good there.
“Where’s Brody, Cal?" He stops right in front of me looking worried but I don't need that from him right now I just need to know where my son is. "He's with Mom and the girls making cookies. We couldn't go far on our walk because there’s still quite a bit of damage from the Tornado and it's not very safe in the woods so we came back and checked in with the girls and well, I got abounded the minute he learnt that they were baking cookies." He lets out a little laugh before quickly sobering up.
"What's going on here? Where is everyone?" For a moment I was so far gone that I blanked everything out and let my anger override me but now... Fuck it all comes tumbling down on me and I feel like I can't breathe. Tom seems to sense what's going on as he grips one of my shoulders gently squeezing as he faces Callum. "Amy called, started sprouting some nonsense but then... Fuck we could hear Molly's voice in the background. She said if he wants her to stay alive then she suggests he takes a walk down memory lane and maybe, just maybe he'll get to her in time."
"Why is she doing this? I don't get it!" I'm trying with all I have to be calm here, I know I need a clear head right now but it feels almost impossible to achieve. "What the fuck?" Callum looks instantly pissed as he starts pacing around the barn. "Why take Molly? What is it she wants?" I shake my head. "I don't know what she didn't say. She seemed distracted. She kept talking about how someone found out her plan and if he hadn't been nosy then her plan would have gone perfectly. I doubt she even realised that she hasn't said what she wants yet."
"She's prob high and drunk and just about able to stand. Clearly, she wants more money, Chris. I mean, what else is it she could want from you?" I have asked myself that several times already but I'm just as lost as these two. Whatever she wants she can have, I don't give a fuck about money or material thing. As long as I've got Molly and my kids then that's all that matters.
"A walk down memory lane? Does that make any sense to you?" Tom seems to have finally got his head in the game which I'm grateful for because I'm fucking lost.
“No, I don't know what she's talking about. I doubt she fucking knows herself.” They both nod in agreement. “Call her back, try to get some fucking sense out of her.” Cal picks up my phone off of the ground and passes it to me and I make quick work of tiling the bitches number only she doesn't answer and it pisses me off.
“We can't just wait around for her to answer. She can't be far. Molly went to see lightning, let's go make sure that she's not still there and that this is all another stupid game of hers.” I'm out the door by the time I finish talking with my brothers right behind me. I know it's wishing full thinking but maybe she is still there. Who am I kidding? She isn't going to be there.
Molly
“I don't... understand. This... doesn't make... sense!” The words leave me in a stutter as I try and wrap my brain around what I'm seeing. “Why?” He doesn't answer me instead he just stands there staring at me with a strange look on his face that I don't quite understand.
“How about you just shut up and do as you are told unless you want actually want to die here this time!” Spittle flies from her mouth as she screams out the words and it's only then that I actually take a moment to look around me and feel my body start to shake when I realize where we are. “The bridge? Why would you bring me here?”
“He told me about how you almost died here, it's a shame that you didn't by the way but anyway I was thinking about a backup plan for today and I thought this could be quite fitting. How funny would it be if you survived death here once only to have it actually happen just a few days later.” She has a sick twisted smile on her face that makes me feel sick. I look behind me and straight into the water of the lake. She got me standing on the same bridge that I was holding onto with all I had just a few days ago.
“I’ll give it to you, Amy you are much more sick and twisted than I thought.” She smiles at me while actually fucking thanking me. “It wasn't a compliment, Amy!” She laughs not fazed at all while movement to her left has me once again facing him. “Her I can get doing this but you…”
“Oh, sweetheart he's just the tip of the iceberg.” Her words have me instantly going cold then I hear another set of footsteps from behind me and the sickness that I was feeling earlier comes straight back to the surface. No, no this can't be happening!
“You have got to be fucking kidding me. What the hell is going on here?” I'm shocked but more than anything else I'm sad. Sad that these would work with her. Sad that they would do this to their own family.
“Jesus Christ I can't figure this out for the life of me, why you would do this? It doesn't make any sense” I look between the two men as I try to find the words but my throat feels like it's closing up. I'm not scared anymore I'm angry, pissed, and completely heartbroken, more heartbroken for the people they are doing this to than myself.
“Please tell me what going on. There has to be more to this, I don't believe you would be involved with this. Please explain it to me?”
“Yes please do explain this to us!” I jump when I hear Zack's voice just before he comes to stand right next to me. my mind so fogged that I didn't even realize he was here and by the looks on everyone else faces they didn't realize either.
Amy's phone starts to ring and she laughs as she walks away from us and answers it. She hasn't long come of another phone call and I have a feeling those phone calls have been with Christian.
I drag my attention away from her and back to the other when I hear Zack's voice again. “Well, is someone going to enlighten us? What the fuck is going on here? Dad, Jack, would one of you care to explain?”
