His Forbidden Soulmate

Chapter 4

Ch. 4 / 44 Oct 20, 2023

Jurius

"Jurius," I heard my father call.

Immediately, I insert my pen into my book and hid it under a rock before he catches me writing again. As the future alpha of the pack, my father wants me to concentrate solely on becoming stronger and a good leader. It is difficult to bear a big responsibility when you were only 18.

"Son," he again called.

"I'm here, dad." My voice directed him to me.

I noticed he was not alone; my twin brother Tate was along with him. Tate and I weren't identical twins. He too had a future role to play, he was the future Beta of the pack. The second leader in case something should happen to me. Sometimes I wish he was the firstborn and I the second. Dad wasn't on his back like he did with me. Tate was free to do whatever he pleased and to even date, humans. I could never do such a thing. My father feared his alpha son to get associated with a human. He thought them to be weak. An alpha should never involve himself with the feeble.

"Why are you from the pack, you should be guarding the pack as a true destine alpha should be," Dad scolded me.

"Yes father," Tate had to interfered.

I gave him an angry stare, not a usual stare, an alpha look instructing him to keep to his ground. Tate knew I would never start a fight with him, so he gave me a smile showing he was just playing.

"I'm sorry father," I apologized.

My father approached me, and I prayed he doesn't see that I was writing poems, something he forbids me from doing, he believed it made me weak.

My father rested his arms on my back and pushes me forward to walk along with him. I watched Tate from the side knowing he was up to something. Tate enjoyed seeing me get into trouble. One day when I have the full rights of the alpha, I'll surely punish him I would often tell myself; I had no doubt about it.

My heart raced as Tate walked to the area, I had hidden the book. I was relieved when he walked away not finding it.

Our pack is called The Forgotten Pack. Our home is built in the center of The Forgotten Town, a large, big white house that looked like an apartment with 70 of us. The pack wasn't consisting only of family, there were female wolves who joined us because of their mate and wolves from other land searching for a stronger or better pack that they feel suited them, ours.

Humans believed our home to be a rented apartment, but it wasn't. We were a pack, we had to stay together, to protect each other.

We arrived at our home, a large building enclosed by many tall trees and wild bushes that helped us hide our secrets from the outside world. As the future alpha, I too was responsible to keep our secret lives from humans. Humans were to still believe wolf shifters were not real and are just some mythological creatures they just heard about in stories.

There were 50 grown wolves, and 20 younger wolves consisting of pups and teenagers dwelling in the home, we ate every meal together, always. Our pack was so close it was difficult to hide anything. Of course, we had to be around the human, we had to learn from them, in doing so we had to attend their school and dwell among them until it was our time to be separated from them.

It was dinner time. My mom, the Luna of the pack, and my eldest sibling, Kathara, along with some of the elders was the one in charge of cooking the food. Meals were placed around the table before we were called and no one can eat without the alpha.

"I'm sorry," I apologize seeing everyone was looking at me, eagerly to eat.

Within their eyes, I saw there upset but too scared to say anything. Rules within the pack, if an alpha does something to upset you, just get over it.

"Never apologize, son," said my father.

My father was so stern that I fear I will never be able to run this pack as well as him.

My dad took a bite of every meal ensuring it was safe to eat. He didn't have to do so since it was his soulmate, my mom and his daughter cooked it, but we had to since some of us will one day have to dwell in the forest.

Hands were soon quickly moving about the table and short growls consumes the dining room of wolves racing for food. There was plenty of food to share but the beastly side of us was far too great. We were wolves hidden by human skin, our kind would often think of ourselves. No matter how we try to dwell alongside humans and adapt their manner to blend in; our animal side will never be tamed.

"So, Jurius how do you feel knowing days from now you'll find your soulmate?" asked Mom excitedly. My mom's a light beautiful brown hair she-wolf with dark brown eyes. Tate and I had her eyes. She was always the one interested in stirring up a conversation around the dining table.

My dad hit me in my back proudly almost causing me to swallow the chicken bone.

"Good," I said almost blushing.

My mom couldn't wait to have another daughter, she wanted more children, but the moon goddess didn't give her that choice. So she was relying on me and my brother to make her a grandmother.

"When you find her Jurius it will be the most beautiful thing," her melodious voice spoke softly to me.

I nodded and I try to picture in my mind that glorious day for a mate-less wolf like me. It was not going to be me alone who find my soulmate on that day, also wolves who have turned 18 and those who were still waiting. Wolf shifter finds their soulmate yearly, under the full moon once they were old enough.

"I hope you don't have to kill her, brother, if she's human," Tate joked.

Tate and his dark humour.

I glare at him, irritated.

"Let us not speak of that," Dad shuts him up.

I smirked, happy he did.

I hope not, I began to worry.

I loathed that Tate always finds a way to ruin a moment.

"Don't worry it will not happen to you, Jurius, you're a good wolf and the moon goddess will never curse you," my mom touched my hand seeing I was.

I nodded.

A wolf sometimes receives a human for their soulmate instead of a she-wolf, all wolves believe it to be a curse, for a wolf cannot mate with a human who is considered weak. In case that should happen, a wolf shifter must kill their soulmate for a second chance at love before the next full moon, or serious consequences will happen.
