His Forbidden Soulmate

Chapter 2

Ch. 2 / 44 Oct 20, 2023

Freya

It was hopeless pleading to my mom to let me stay and complete school here, she had already made up her mind to leave with Jack first thing tomorrow morning.

The full morning, I'd been in tears packing my bags to go to my grandaunt and grandma's home.

"Are you through as yet?" my mom's inclined against the side of my door.

I tossed my last pair of clothes into the suitcase, and zip it shut, not responding to her.

"I called Mom, she and Zira are happy for you to come."

The suitcase landed hard from my bed onto the floor, and I pulled it passed her to the car.

"Are you going to ignore me forever, Freya," my mom had had enough of my silent manner.

I solely place my suitcase in the trunk of her car and locked it proceeding into the front seat of the vehicle.

"Fine, I can endure these immature silent behaviours of yours. I've been dealing with it for many years," she grumbled as she closed the front seat of the car, placing on her seat belt.

I rolled my eyes as I saw Jack coming towards the car.

"Are you sure you don't want me to join you? I know it will be lonesome returning home alone," his head went down to hers.

"I'll be fine babe," my mom kissed him.

I felt like I wanted to hurl. I was glad when the engine started.

"Take care, Freya," I heard Jack.

I observed the homes across the street, ignoring him as well and I was soon on my way to a town I wanted no part of.

It was a long ride to The Town of Forgotten, a land that was barely known to anyone, but to only the ones who left there for a better life, the ones who were attached to it by birth.

I reminisced about the first time I went there; I was only 6. That's when my mom and dad were getting a divorce. My mom brought me there desiring emotional support. It was the first time she had her heart broken. I know for she will never let me forget it.

I remembered how big and green the land my grand aunt and grandma dwelled on and how beautiful it is. Anyone who loves nature would find it a good place to dwell. A place that was more of trees than a city of buildings and factories polluting the air with smoke. The air is so fresh to take in and the sound of the wild birds is so soothing to hear.

"It will be better for you to stay with them," my mom spoke in a low tone.

My head held away from hers.

Restlessly, I held onto the seatbelt as I saw the sign that displayed I was now within the Town of Forgotten. Each side of the road was lined off with tall rows of trees instead of houses like the city. The air was cool and slightly windy as I remembered.

As we arrived at the home, I immediately got out of the car and took my bag from the trunk. Grandaunt Zira and Grandma Zoey were on the porch waiting for us. They came to welcome us.

"Ho..., look how grown and beautiful you are," Grandaunt hugged me tightly in her arms. She had a scent of dirt and flowers, mostly dirt, like her garden. Zira treasured her garden. Mom once told me that she found comfort in gardening from the day her husband left her and my grandma in raising chickens. How unfortunate my mom's side of the family is with men.

"You look just like your mother," it was my grandmother turned to hug me, she pinched my right cheek before doing so.

I despised being compared to how alike my mom's appearance was. I wished it wasn't. I worried about ending up in the same life situation as her.

It was soon my mom's turn to be embraced.

"You look so happy." My grandaunt and grandma studied my mom's face.

The last time they saw her she was sad and broken, they had to make that comment.

"I am," my mom giggled.

I pulled my suitcase straight to the house. I wanted to cry. It was the first I was going to be separated from my mom.

"Freya, I love you!" I heard my mom shout from behind.

I spun to look at her and tears came streaming down.

"I'll call you every day, I promise," she hastily went into the car as if she couldn't stand to be here any longer or away from Jack too long. I cried as her car drove off.

"Don't cry darling...," Zira came to hug me. "You'll be fine here," she reassured me.

Grandma took my suitcase and brought it upstairs; Zira and I followed behind.

"You'll be staying in your mom's room," Grandma placed down my suitcase.

I wiped away my tears as I observed my new surrounding. A small blue-painted room with a picture that haunts me of my mom at a younger age of how similar we looked.

"Take your time and settle in darling," Zira touched my back. "We'll be downstairs whenever you need us ."

I nodded. As they shut the door behind them, I went over to the bed and throw myself down sobbing. I didn't want to be here, nor did I want to be attending a new school.
