Cinderella of Our Time

Chapter 26

Ch. 26 / 59 Aug 22, 2024

(Day 50/122 of the experiment)

After walking 15,000 steps, I entered the café and waited for Lily. Meanwhile, I was going through photos of the outfits I had chosen yesterday, preparing to show them to my friend.

We spent three hours shopping, but I only bought a classic straight dress, a pantsuit, and a handbag. All the other items were either not available in the stores or not in my size.

Feeling disappointed, I invited Lily to CANTUCCINI for pizza and wine, and she eagerly supported me because there is no worse situation for a woman than when she is excited to buy new things for herself but, for one reason or another, doesn’t purchase anything.

“Cinderella, don’t be sad! Do you want to go together somewhere to a shopping center?”

“Oh no, it’s fine, it’s nothing. I just really wanted to finish my new look with new clothes. But, apparently, it wasn’t meant to be,” I said, feeling even more upset.

“Let’s make it easier—I know a few websites where branded stores sell their items. Let’s see what they have. And you can just order, try it on at the post office, and only take what fits.”

“Well, I don’t know. What if it doesn’t fit? I’ll have to return the money and write letters asking for refunds. It’s all so complicated.”

“You’ll pay at the post office after trying things on. So if something doesn’t fit, you just won’t pick up the package and won’t pay for it.”

“Okay, let’s try,” I said without much enthusiasm.

Spending just an hour and a half while enjoying pizza, I ordered as many as 15 items, which are supposed to arrive at the post office in the village of Pidhaitsi the day after tomorrow.

The evening ended with a bottle of wine at the restaurant and watching a series at home with hot cocoa.

(Day 51/122 of the experiment)

Eyebrow tattooing. I signed up for today with the best master in the big city. I have this fear that in a year, I will turn into women with blue eyebrows that take up half their faces. I think you know such women too. They get tattoos that initially look quite decent; you can even skip makeup because there's a bright accent on the face. But after a while, the pigment fades in the sun, and the masterpiece turns into two dark blue spots in the center of the face.

My master’s name is Yevheniya, and she works in the most expensive tattoo salon in the city. When I arrived, we immediately got acquainted, and Zhenya started asking what shape I preferred.

- Zhenya, look, the main request is for the eyebrows to look as natural as possible and not to stand out. Oh, and one more thing – they won't turn dark blue in a year, like many women’s, right?

- Don’t worry, Cinderella. Problems with fading pigments are common among people who get eyebrow tattoos—the same tattoos done on hands, legs, forearms. We'll be doing permanent makeup. The main difference is that permanent makeup doesn’t penetrate as deeply into the skin and gradually lightens and disappears over time if you don't do a touch-up.

- Really?

- Yes, yes, I'll show you photos of my clients a year and two years after their eyebrow permanent makeup. They all come back to me to make their brows brighter, just like in the first year after the procedure.

After the master showed me photos of her clients and I confirmed that indeed, there were no blue eyebrows among them, Zhenya started drawing the shape. By nature, I had "gaps" in my eyebrows—places where the hairs were missing, and I painted them in every morning. Now, instead of a pencil, I will have permanent makeup that will last 24/7 for the next year to year and a half, depending on my body.

The procedure itself took about two hours—my master approached the creation of the eyebrow shape with the utmost responsibility and carefully checked the symmetry of my arches. Then, they applied a numbing cream, and I waited about 10 minutes for the area above my eyes to become less sensitive.

The tattooing process lasted about 40 minutes. At first, I felt nothing at all, but when they applied the second layer of pigment, the cream stopped working, and all the unpleasant sensations intensified. Not very pleasant, I must say. But beauty requires sacrifice.

Staring back at me from the mirror was an almost perfect face—symmetrical lips, broader eyebrows than before, a small nose (I don't know how, but after all the manipulations with my face, my nose started to look more refined). After thanking Zhenya, I quickly ran outside to take a photo and send it to my friends.

After returning home, I decided to take a little walk and prepare egg noodles with seafood for dinner. In the last few days, I endured quite a bit of pain, although it was for the sake of beauty. So, as a reward after my walk, I bought a small cake to share with Richard.
