Derek's POV
I took a shower and changed my clothes. Feeling fresh, I headed back to the hospital.
"How is she?" I asked Rolf before entering Tabitha's ward.
He immediately replied, "Strange. She isn't making a fuss at all. And she even asked for an extra meal."
"Did she say anything?"
"She asked about our men's injuries, how many were caught, and if Austin was among them. She stayed calm throughout," replied Rolf.
"What did you tell her?"
"I answered truthfully, saying that Austin got away and the rest were all being held and tortured. Tabitha didn't say much. Just told me she was tired and needed to rest." Rolf scratched his head and added, "Alpha Derek, what is going on with her? She's too calm. It gives me the creeps."
"Looks like she wasn't lying to me," I concluded.
I had been worried that Tabitha was trying to send me away so she could kill herself or something, but fortunately, she really came to her senses now.
I tiptoed into the ward and found Tabitha already awake.
With a gleam of certainty in her clear eyes, she said, "I knew you wouldn't take a break. Pull out the sofa bed over there and get some rest."
I couldn't help but stare at her for a bit. "Tabitha, are you really okay?"
"Of course. I'm following the doctor's advice and trying to get better sooner. By the way, I think I'm starting to feel my right hand again! Please get me the best doctor you can find. I don't want my hand to end up useless," she replied.
Even though she hadn't stopped treatment for her hand these past six months many drugs and treatments were off-limits due to her pregnancy.
Fortunately, the pack doctor had been using herbal remedies to help her.
Hearing her finally feeling her right hand, I was thrilled. Maybe it was gonna make her hate me less.
With a self-deprecating laugh, she added, "This is probably the only good news in this shitty life."
"Alright then, but since you went into early labor, you have to stay in bed for a whole month to get better. I will get you the doctor, but we cannot rush it," I replied.
Tabitha gazed at the yellowing autumn leaves outside and asked, "Since we've caught someone alive, did you get anything useful?"
"They are members of the Black Wolf Guild, but they are just following orders—take down the target. They don't have the authority to know who the client is," I explained.
"How many of them came this time?"
"One hundred."
Tabitha raised an eyebrow. "I have no idea about this industry, but I reckon a hundred is a lot, right?"
"Black Wolf Guild is the most notorious assassin organization globally. Those who can join it are either members trained there since childhood or highly skilled individuals such as retired special forces and traitor agents from various countries.
"The org classifies its members based on individual capabilities, ranging from C-level to S-level. The team coming for us has ninety C-level members, seven B-level members, two A-level members, and one whose level remains unknown."
"What level is Austin at?"
"A-level, he's the commander of this mission," I replied.
Tabitha sneered. "Did he make it out alive?"
"No idea. He got shot in the leg and jumped into the sea. We haven't got any news of him yet."
"How much money would it take to mobilize this big force?"
I used my fingers to show her. "Like this."
"1.5 million dollars?"
I shook my head. "At least 15 million. As I said, they are all highly skilled men. It would take a lot of time and money to train them. Usually, one or two members are enough for a simple mission, and the payment varies from hundreds of thousands of dollars to millions."
Tabitha widened her eyes. "15 million just to kill me, huh? That's quite an investment! Who do you think wants me dead?"
"Considering the motive, I have two names in my head, Daphne and Elena. But 15 million is a lot for Daphne. I have checked the Amber's Eye Pack's accounts, and I don't think they can afford that. Besides, Daphne wouldn't even know how to contact Black Wolf Guild," I analyzed.
"If it's not Daphne, then it is Elena?" Tabitha surmised.
