Alvin's POV
Now I finally knew what Alpha Derek was up to. Turned out from the beginning, he wasn't really trying to send Tabitha out for training.
He was just looking for a chance to get her injected with M-1.
But I had a feeling that this wasn't a good idea.
"But Alpha Derek, even though Tabitha has a tough past, she has the right to decide whether or not to forget about it. By injecting that drug against her will, you're just pushing her away. One day, when she regains her memories, she's gonna hate you even more..."
Alpha Derek raised his wedding ring, the silver band shimmering with a cold gleam in the sunlight.
"Do you think I haven't thought about all this? Fine, let's forget how hard her journey has been. But just look at her now. Revenge is the only thing on her mind. She has become extremely sensitive, unable to sleep at night. The slightest noise wakes her up, and when she does manage to sleep, she'll keep having nightmares. Plus, those memories have become a deep rift between her and me, and I'm out of options."
As he spoke, a wild look of excitement crossed his face. "Finally, I found a solution to the impasse. As long as Tabitha is injected with M-1, she'll forget all the painful memories, including the harm I caused her. She'll go back to being that girl who was crazy about me! Our love will be perfect, and no one will ever ruin it again."
I opened my mouth but hesitated, not knowing what to say.
As his Beta, I could only give suggestions. Ultimately, I had to obey his orders.
All I could do was hope everything went his way.
But my wolf became worried, "Could this really solve the problem?
"Would erasing Tabitha's memory really not bring about more serious consequences?"
I wasn't sure, either. Watching Alpha Derek's determined expression, I could only silently pray that things would turn out alright.
Tabitha's POV
The guy I was following was built like a tank and had skin as dark as coal.
"Ms. Hartley, I know why you're here. And I'll do my best to protect you. You can call me Devin."
I nodded and said, "Thank you."
"These islands are close to the equator, resulting in a tropical climate with year-round high humidity and temperature and frequent thunderstorms. That means resources are abundant here and the food is plentiful. But there are more poisonous creatures than anywhere else. From insects to plants and animals, danger lurks everywhere."
I'd already done my homework before coming here and even obtained a topographic map from Derek. So I had a good idea of what I was getting into.
"I've studied every kind of plant and animal around here, so you don't need to worry about that."
"Alright, later, I'll throw you into the dungeon. You just need to pretend to be a death row prisoner. You will undergo a month of training together. After that, you will be sent to the island for a battle."
Training? Actually, it was just about us huddling together and finding companions to team up with during this period.
In the beginning, the instructor would tell us only ten percent would make it through. These werewolves were already sentenced to death, so naturally, they all wanted to become part of that ten percent and have another chance to live.
But they didn't know that the instructor had set up a trap. When they thought they had won, they would be sent off to the main island for the final battle. To survive, these folks would often kill their former teammates.
That was the final test: mercy.
Only when one was without mercy, one could become a qualified killer.
Well, lucky me. I knew all the ins and outs from day one, so I never planned on making any friends here.
When I was thrown into the dark dungeon, everyone looked at me simultaneously.
Most prisoners were men, and female prisoners were very rare.
When those leering gazes landed on me and realized I was a woman, someone whistled.
"Look at that—a chick!"
"Yeah, but an ugly one."
"It didn't make a difference when the lights were out."
Crystal became alert in my heart, "Tabitha, these guys look like trouble."
I nodded, telling myself that I had to be careful in dealing with them so as not to let them discover my true identity.
I coldly scanned the werewolves around me, not saying a word. Then, I chose a corner to sit down and waited for whatever challenge came next.
