Third person's POV
"What... What did you say?"
"Maybe they were suffocated when they came out. Tabitha, don't be sad. You are only six months pregnant, even if you delivered them successfully, it was unlikely for them to survive.
"Now the most important thing is your health. You're still young. You will have other children."
"No, I don't believe it. They won't just die like this. I've carried them for so long and went through so much difficulty, I..."
"Tabitha, the killers are coming. We must leave now."
"No, no way! I won't leave my babies behind."
Alice couldn't care less about that. Her job was to protect Tabitha and then her babies.
If they were all in danger at the same time, she must save Tabitha first.
"Tabitha, I'm sorry."
Alice quickly carried Tabitha on her back. Tabitha looked at her babies lying on the clothes without signs of life. Mixed with rain, her tears streamed down uncontrollably.
"No! My babies!"
Alice struggled to climb up the cliff with Tabitha on her back. She had years of training, so her physical condition was much better than the average person.
Even so, she still found it hard to climb up with Tabitha on her back.
The rain was heavy, together with the sounds of waves, and she dared not look back.
She threw a gun at Spencer. So they could protect Tabitha from both ends, as they ventured on the cliff.
Seven or eight people gradually chased after Tabitha, but no one glanced at the two dead infants as they passed by.
Their focus was all on Tabitha.
Then, the last person slowed down. He stopped and picked up the babies.
Under the rain, their bodies were cold and feeble, like abandoned puppies.
He patted the babies' backs, and the two spat out a mouthful of amniotic fluid and finally cried out.
He quickly unzipped his waterproof suit and placed the babies against his chest, warming their little bodies with his scorching body temperature.
The babies were at ease and did not cry again.
The only cry from the babies was drowned by the sounds of wind, rain, waves, and gunfire.
Tabitha, who was far ahead, turned back as if she had a telepathic connection with them. "Dr. Evans, I need to go back. I heard a baby's cry."
"Tabitha, I checked them just now. They had no breath at all. You are hallucinating."
"No, I really heard it. Just take them with us. They are my flesh and blood, and they are part of me! I would rather exchange them with my own life."
"I'm sorry, Tabitha. I promised Alpha Derek that I would protect you no matter what happened. The babies are dead. They are only corpses. Carrying them will only burden you."
Tears kept falling from Tabitha's face, and she could feel blood running along her legs.
Her condition was no better than the babies'. If she went on in this way, she would also lose her life.
Tabitha's eyes flashed with the images of John lying on the hospital bed, Joanna, who shielded her from the gun, and the babies she had not yet held in her own hands.
Maybe she was a heinous criminal in her past life, therefore the Moon Goddess punished her in such a way.
"Bang."
Spencer's right leg was shot again. He dragged one leg and kept moving, still trying his best to protect Tabitha.
As Alice climbed on the rocks, her hands were cut by the sharp rocks.
Blood kept oozing from her palms.
"Is it worth it?" Tabitha suddenly asked.
Alice was taken aback and was clueless about the meaning of her words.
"Tabitha, what?"
"Is it really worth sacrificing so many people just for me?"
