The Chosen Luna: Alpha’s Unwanted Daughter

Chapter 686

Ch. 676 / 790 May 05, 2026

The forest was eerily quiet as Bella followed Zeryth through the dense trees, the only sounds being the soft crunch of leaves beneath their feet and the distant calls of birds. The air felt different here—cooler, charged with an energy that made Bella’s senses tingle. It was as though the forest itself was alive, aware of her presence. Despite the strange pull it had on her, Bella couldn’t shake the feeling of disconnection. She could sense something important, but it remained just out of reach.

Zeryth walked silently beside her, his gaze occasionally flickering to her, his expression unreadable. He led her deeper into the woods, past twisted vines and ancient oaks that seemed to whisper secrets from the past. Every step felt like it was pulling her further into something she didn’t quite understand.

“Do you feel anything yet?” Zeryth asked softly, his voice calm but laced with a quiet urgency.

Bella hesitated, her brow furrowing in concentration as she looked around. “I… I don’t know. It’s strange. I feel like I should remember something here, but it’s all foggy. Like a dream I can’t quite wake up from.”

Zeryth stopped walking for a moment, turning to face her fully. His expression softened as he regarded her. “This is the place where you first met me. The place where everything changed. If any place will trigger your memory, it’s here.”

Bella nodded slowly, but her mind remained a blur. She wanted so badly to recall something—anything—that would help her make sense of who she was. But the harder she tried to focus, the more elusive the memories became. All she had were flashes of emotions, feelings, but no concrete recollections.

Zeryth motioned toward an ancient oak tree that stood at the center of a small clearing, its bark twisted and gnarled, its branches reaching high above like skeletal arms. “Do you remember this tree?” he asked gently.

Bella’s heart skipped a beat. Something about it felt familiar. She stepped forward, her fingers brushing the rough bark of the tree. As soon as her skin made contact with the ancient wood, a ripple of energy surged through her. Her chest tightened, and her breath caught in her throat. There was a pull—something deep inside her was awakening, but it was still too fragmented to grasp.

Suddenly, the air around her seemed to shift. A faint whisper brushed against her ears, so soft she almost missed it. It was her voice—her own voice, but distant, as if it were coming from another time, another place.

“Kael,” the whisper echoed, barely audible, like an unanswered call lost in the wind.

Bella froze, her hand still resting on the tree. Her heart raced as the sound of her own name reverberated through her mind. It was like a memory, but it felt unreal, too far removed from the woman she was now. It was a name she should know, a connection she should understand—but it only deepened the confusion. Who was Kael to her? Why did hearing his name feel like a crack in her soul?

“Kael?” she whispered aloud, her voice trembling as the whisper faded into the quiet of the forest.

Zeryth watched her closely, his eyes narrowing slightly as he observed her reaction. “Do you remember now?” he asked quietly, but there was a note of something in his voice that Bella couldn’t place—something too calculated.

Bella turned to look at him, her mind racing. The memory was fleeting, like a dream slipping through her fingers. It felt so real, but it didn’t make sense. Why did she feel an ache in her chest at hearing his name? Why did it feel like it meant more than it should? She opened her mouth to speak, but before she could find the words, a rustling in the bushes startled them both.

From the shadows, Kael emerged, his dark eyes full of tension. He had been following them from a distance, his instincts pulling him to Bella despite his mistrust of Zeryth. He had watched, listened, and waited, feeling the gnawing need to protect her, even if it meant going against his pride.

“Kael!” Bella gasped, her voice a mixture of surprise and confusion. She took a step back, her heart pounding as she caught sight of him. “What are you doing here?”

Kael’s gaze flickered between her and Zeryth, his jaw tightening as the unfamiliar weight of jealousy pressed down on him. He had known, deep down, that Zeryth was guiding her somewhere, but seeing her so caught up in whatever was happening between them filled him with an undeniable sense of urgency.

“I—” Kael started, his voice strained, but he faltered, unsure of what to say. Seeing Bella standing there, so lost, so vulnerable, made the words choke in his throat.

Zeryth was the first to speak, his tone calm but full of subtle warning. “I brought her here to help her remember, Kael. This is where she first met me—the place where everything began.”

Kael’s fists clenched at his sides. “I don’t care about that,” he growled, his voice low but fierce. “I care about her. She’s lost, Zeryth. She doesn’t remember anything, and you’re pushing her. What if this isn’t what she needs?”

Zeryth raised an eyebrow, not phased by Kael’s outburst. “You think I don’t know that?” he replied, his voice steady. “But she needs to find the answers on her own. She can’t be forced.”

Bella stood frozen between them, torn by the emotions crashing through her. The more Kael spoke, the more she realized how little she understood what was happening between them. But one thing was clear—her connection with him was real. She could feel it, but the memories were still scattered like broken pieces of glass, just out of her reach.

“Kael,” she whispered, her voice hoarse, “I don’t know what’s happening to me. I don’t know what any of this means.”

Kael’s gaze softened, his heart aching for her. “I’m not going anywhere, Bella. I’ll help you remember. I won’t give up on you.”

Zeryth’s eyes narrowed as he watched the exchange. His expression remained neutral, but the tension in the air was thick.

Bella turned back to the tree, her hand still resting lightly on the bark, and the echo of her own voice, calling Kael’s name, replayed in her mind again. But this time, it was clearer—more real. The connection between them was undeniable, but there were so many unanswered questions.
