The Chosen Luna: Alpha’s Unwanted Daughter

Chapter 656

Ch. 646 / 790 May 05, 2026

The days stretched on, each one blurring into the next, an unrelenting cycle of pain, humiliation, and despair. Bella’s body had long been battered, her spirit slowly being chipped away by the constant torment. The guards were relentless in their cruelty, their jeers and insults cutting deeper than any physical wound. They enjoyed seeing her suffer, taking pleasure in every tear, every sob that slipped from her lips, though she tried her best to suppress them.

“You really thought you could escape your past, didn’t you?” one of the guards sneered as he kicked her while she cleaned the filthy floor of the cell. “You think someone like you is worthy of being a Luna? You’re nothing but a broken rogue, a dirty little wolf that no one will ever accept.”

Bella’s hands trembled as she scrubbed at the floor, her body sore from the constant beatings. She couldn’t find the strength to look up at him; the words had lost their power to wound her. She had been reduced to this—broken, humiliated, and alone. She had been dragged through the mud, but the worst of it wasn’t the abuse; it was the slow erosion of her sense of self. Every time she tried to push herself back from the edge, the darkness pulled her deeper in.

Esmera appeared as if on cue, her cold eyes scanning Bella’s fragile form as she knelt on the floor. The sight of Bella’s suffering seemed to please her, like a predator circling her prey. She leaned down, her voice cruel as she spoke, her words like a knife twisting in Bella’s gut.

“You were never meant to be a Luna, Bella,” Esmera taunted, her voice dripping with venom. “You’re just a broken rogue, abandoned by your own family, cast aside by the very people you tried to protect. Kael will never come for you. He doesn’t even remember you.”

Bella’s heart clenched painfully at the words, a fresh wave of doubt sweeping over her. Was it true? Had Kael really forgotten her? Had he moved on? Her mind replayed every memory of him, every moment of tenderness they had shared. His touch, his voice, the way he held her in his arms, promising he would never leave her. But now, in the oppressive silence of the cage, those memories seemed like distant dreams. Were they ever real? Or had it all been a cruel illusion, a fleeting moment of happiness before everything came crashing down?

“No,” Bella whispered to herself, her voice weak but defiant. She shook her head, trying to block out Esmera’s words. “No, he won’t forget me.”

Esmera laughed, the sound echoing in the cold, stone walls of the cage. “You’re so naïve, Bella. Do you really think Kael will risk everything for you? You’re nothing to him. You’ll always be nothing.”

The words stung, but Bella didn’t let them break her. She had come too far to give up now. Kael’s face flashed in her mind, and the thought of him—his love, his strength—was the only thing that kept her tethered to reality. She couldn’t lose herself in the darkness. She couldn’t let Esmera win.

As the days wore on, the guards continued their torment, both physical and verbal. They pushed her to her limits, testing how much she could endure. Each blow, each insult, felt like it would be the one that broke her. But Bella refused to give them that satisfaction. No matter how much they tried to tear her down, she clung to the memories of the life she had once known—the love she had shared with Kael, the bond they had forged, and the promise that he would come for her.

In the rare moments when the guards weren’t tormenting her, Bella would retreat into her mind, reliving the happier times in her life. She remembered her family—Misery, Eryon, Lira—and the way they had always been there for her. She remembered the first time Kael had taken her hand, the way his eyes had softened when he looked at her. But those memories were becoming harder and harder to hold on to. The darkness inside the cage threatened to swallow them whole, erasing the warmth they had brought her.

The pain was becoming unbearable, but Bella held on, determined not to let Esmera break her completely. She couldn’t give in. Not when Kael might still be out there, searching for her. She had to believe that he hadn’t forgotten. She had to believe that he still cared.

And then, as if in answer to her desperate thoughts, a faint warmth spread through her chest. Bella’s eyes widened, her breath catching in her throat. Something inside her stirred, something deep and ancient, as if a spark had been ignited. She couldn’t explain it, but it was there—a glimmer of hope, of power, of something greater than herself.

She glanced down, half-expecting to see some sort of light, but the darkness of the cage was absolute. Her chest tightened as the feeling faded, leaving her confused. What had that been? It had felt so real, so powerful, but now it was gone. She was still trapped, still helpless, still at Esmera’s mercy.

But as Bella shifted in the cage, her torn clothes brushing against her body, something caught her eye. Hidden beneath the fabric, nestled against her skin, was her medallion—the one that had once been her symbol of hope. Her heart skipped a beat as she realized it was faintly glowing. It was almost imperceptible, but the glow was there. The medallion, her connection to her past, to Isla, to everything she had once believed in, was still alive.
